Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Plus how would you make the MK cast work in a 3D environment when their movesets have been mainly 2D in their mainstream franchise?
Haohmaru will answer that question for you when he becomes available in Soul Calibur but if you want a short answer now all you have to do is apply the rules of SC mechanics to a MK character such as horizontals, verticals, kicks and making projectiles come out fast that track. Not hard to do if you think about it.

Yes and no. There is indeed a lot to do in this game that's for sure. But many things are hidden behind incredible amount of nonsensical grind and RNG. Also many modifiers in Towers of Time are fun from being fun. Other than that - yes I would say it's great.
When it comes to Soul Calibur, Project Soul just needs to look at it's early games specifically SC3. I personally think NRS has gotten worse over the years when it comes to modes and bonus content, Deadly Alliance and Deception do a way better job in this department especially the Krypt, the modern version is more a casino than a charming mode for unlocking bonus content.
Yeah i don't like either the mobile like thing in MK11, but even tho still game has more single player than any other FG. And also a lot of contents (i won't say more than other FGs, since there's a lot of things that looks too similar LOL)

...I didn’t think so. Plus how would you make the MK cast work in a 3D environment when their movesets have been mainly 2D in their mainstream franchise?
Just like they did with Akuma and Geese in T7 (not saying i'm a fan of the characters either)

Also Hao Maru that's coming in SC6 is already a 2D character originally, so.

Yeah butt iirc there is still blood in that game. Less but still. We don't even have that. Also imagine soul caliburified scorpion. Would that look right?
There is so little blood in Injustice 2 that i forgot it's even there, it's really minimal you barely notice it tbh, but i still think it can be made, Subzero in his outro has violence MK vibe without showing or the blood and cie (Just one example on how to transfer that violence aspect with having to show all the gore and blood)

In the end my point is, if they really want to make a MK Character in SC they will find how to do it in a way or another, now it's all about if it's a deal that may happen.

Or giving the SC cast their own set of gruesome fatalities and brutalities. I mean, does anyone really want to see something like Sophitia stabbing someone’s heart out of their chest, or Voldo removing his opponents entrails and wrapping them around his katars like they were strands of spaghetti?...

Oh there would be a plethora of people who would enjoy the hell out of it. Not that it would be a good idea or anything but just pointing that out

I'm kinda envious of MK fanbase. The series took up so much momentum with MK IX, the amount of budget the game now has is also enormous. Of course we can't compare Bamco to WB but then again it doesn't change the fact that one can get a bit jealous here
I mean MK9 was done so right, i was totally done with MK and i never though i will ever play or buy again a MK game considering how shitty the games were post MK3 (and i didn't liked much 3 either, specially compare to 2). I couldn't believe myself when i got MK9 and playing it, they really brought MK back in the best possible way with that game.

Sorry for the little off topic BTW lol

Exactly, for me the games between 3 and 9 don't even exist, too bad they started axing classic characters again for new ones i don't care about or guests.
No Smoke, no MK11 buy.
Also no MK stands a chance against Soul Calibur.
And yes, no Tekken either, i wonder when people and Namco will start realizing that
SC fighting game master race.

MK9 was definitely a great return to form for the series, especially with some of the best fatalities in MK history (along with some good ol’ classics) and an extremely good roster. But I feel the series has kinda dwindled a bit with the variation system and the grinding that has lately become a problem. Same can be said for the Injustice series in a way on the latter.

Truth be told, Nightmare would be a great guest character in Mortal Kombat, I can already picture his fatality being cleaving the enemy in half and then watching Soul Edge absorb their soul.

Shao Kahn vs Nightmare, go!

But yeah, I hope SC one day has the mega budget of Mortal Kombat/Street Fighter and such.

Hmm... Nightmare in MK universe....

Shang Tsung: This is really a fascinating sword
Nightmare: And it's going to feast on your souls, sorcerer!
Shang Tsung: indeed, including your's!

Raiden: This realm have enough of evil besides you and your demented sword!
Nightmare: I shell cover it in blood and darkness!
Raiden: I dont think so!

Nightmare: I cant believe it! So many souls in one body!
Ermac: You wont devour us, fiend!
Nightmare: Souls, come unto me!

Some time back I remember someone posted a .rar or something containing all of the Soul Chronicle portraits for when characters are speaking. I've been trying to search for it but having no luck and Google isn't bringing up much either. Is it still kicking around anywhere?

I don't know about that: I think that it's impossible to argue with the fact that visually he does fit quite well with the MK aesthetic, but in terms of gameplay mechanics, there are real issues, owing to his absurd reach, relative to the average MK character. Of course MK, like almost any fighter, does have its characters with reach (famously so in the case of characters such as Scorpion) but the range tends to be limited to a handful of moves, and even then there is a trade-off wherein those characters are typically low damage dealers with either limited damage per strike, at least on the ranged elements.

But you can't really do any of that with Nightmare: he's going to be using the sword for the vast majority of his strikes, which means massive range in Mortal Kombat terms not just on some of his attacks but on most of them, and you can't make those attacks weaksauce in terms of damage because it just doesn't fit the visuals or the general balance of the character. In Soulcalibur this is offset by maneuverability factors, and a balance of other mechanics particular to the game. In Mortal Kombat's formula 2D formula, I don't know you possibly offset for those advantages in a way that makes sense for the character but also does not allow him to become seriously unbalanced, other than making him perhaps incredibly slow in terms of both movement and attack frames. And even that is inconsistent with Nightmare as he has played since SCIII forward.

I understand what you mean but then again we have characters like Kotal or Shao - both using their weapons and the latter having quite a good range (and being mid tier tops) with it so it would be doable in theory. Tho it won't happen especially comparing status of NM to the likes of Terminator or Joker but it's still fun to theorise. He seems to be the only decent fit when talking SC characters

Idk Voldo, Astaroth and Cervantes would work quite well honestly.

I cobbled together some wallpapers from the Soul Chronicle images. Could probably spend more time on them, but I don't care enough, lol. Might as well share them. They look like this.

And here are all of the raw files as PNGs, tagged. @Project Bokuho

I might try to fashion up a 2B and Inferno one, but obviously that would require actual work. Maybe someday. lol

Oh my bad, those are great but I actually meant these kinds of things:
There's a handful of the portraits online but definitely not even close to all of them and some are low quality, and I haven't come across the backgrounds at all I don't think.

Basically my latest crazy scheme is to somewhat fashion my own Soul Chroincle using some of the assets as templates or if I need any of the canon characters to show up ^^" Probably gonna be another project I give up on before I start but eh... lol
