Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Feels funny how Mortal Kombat and Soul Calibur have shared two guest characters. And Samurai Shodown has gore too...

Also doesn’t WB have Witcher game rights?

Yet Japan hates Mortal Kombat so Scorpion or Sub-Zero would never be a guest.

Worth noting Zion that with the unknown and never fully clarified power of Quattuor Orbis, the orb he has of Viola's, it's perfectly within the realm of possibility that he more likely had her under a very realistic illusion of fighting him, and that it was all in her head for a good while without realizing it. That sort of power wouldn't be hard to believe by any means, given all of the other sorts of things we deal with.

With Season two there could be a possibility that the timeline moves further back to include Soul Blade events and lead to a Cervantes Boss battle rather than a Nightmare.
I kind of doubt it, personally. That's "main quest" territory, and we already did that. Hwang and Setsuka don't have a lot to do with Cervantes, and neither would the possible Rock, Aeon, Li Long, or Yun-seong. I'm not really sure who Aizen and Tosen are, either, but I mostly agree with @KageKazenami here, that the second Azwel as an illusion, I really doubt we're going to have literal clones in SoulCalibur.

Imagine if PS defied all expectations by adding neither Yun-seong or Hwang, and instead we got Han-Myeong.

So time for another random thought. Someday I'd like to see either the Wave Blades or the Grieve Edge come back from III. Maybe combined? That'd be one slashy mess of a character to look at with blades around their arms and sticking out of their feet, but it might be fun.

Very doubtful, considering Han-myeong is already in the game using Soul of Mitsurugi in Libra of Soul:

I could actually see this working, that one flippy attack of the Wave Swords being able to have the Grieve Edges deliver a follow-up, and just in general, giving the arms something to do with the Grieve Edge style... It would be a wall of blades.

Han Myeong is already in the game as a custom style mitsu rip off.

Can't say he's worth including as a full character, as he was obviously just meant to be a fun bonus

That was just a joke, you know. I only actually thought if him because I was playing Libra the other day. I doubt he has ever been in the running for new character, being an unlockable clone in Soul Blade aside. That being said, if it actually does happen somehow, then I claim the "called it" rights and the title of supreme leaker even though I just made a dumb joke.

I'm kind of tempted to boot up III and help fuel my imagination. I'd be surprised if the Wave Edge style ever happened (Grieve Blades? Whatever sounds cooler), but it's fun to think about. It can be part of my dream season pass alongside Soul of Kazuya.

Without meaning offense, I honestly can't think of something that would more quickly undercut everything that made special a particular style that already has a great aesthetic and sense of weight and balance. I would say two such styles, but the truth is, I find the Wave Sword style to be among the more gimicky, contrived, and goofy of all of the SCIII:CE bonus character semi-styles. Grieve Edge, on the other hand, is brilliant, and deserves to come back in its own right, with an expanded moveset without being chained to one of SCIII's most impractical weapons (which is really, really saying something). Grieve Edge both took inspiration from* and gave inspiration to genius. What you two are contemplating here sounds unlikely to be a fraction as inspired as the original approach to the concept, if it could even be made cohesive at all without degenerating into a noise of flailing limbs and Dampierre-level silliness. Sometimes more quickly becomes less, my friends. All Grieve edge needs is expanded moves, maybe a little bit of fusion with a brawler vibe.

* Actually, the first of those links actually comes from a movie that post-dates SCIII as well, but is part of a continuity in Hong Kong action films: it just happens to be the best one, and the one closest to Grieve Edge, so I chose it to represent the concept in live action film. Monty Oum's take on the weapon is if anything even more nuanced, and clearly influenced by Grieve Edge (long time fans of Monty's work will know he must have been a big fan of Soulcalibur, since its fingerprints were all over his Dead Fantasy and RWBY character designs and fight choreography, though his work was a synthesis of a broad range of action and martial arts forms, both real and fantastical, filtered through his own unique brilliance.

@DanteSC3 aizen and tosen are characters from bleach. The former being so smart he knows everything and wants to surpass the limits of humanity. The later being their henchman that’s engrossed in their philosophy.

Illusions are still possible. And didn’t Li Long and Taki both fight Cervantes. Lizardman is a SC1 character. Everyone else would just have a Soul Blade to Soul Calibur timeline. Hwang seems like he’s just going to have a story where he hunts down Mina maybe he will get a conduit fight like Kilik? But it doesn’t seem like it will do him any justice. Like Mitsu had a pretty dumb story mode as well.

Where did this myth come from? I don't think it's hate, i think both respect each other, but considering how MK is huge i guess it would be too expensive to bring Scorpion, for now. And personally seeing an MK character in SC is not something i'm specially interested in, but i can guess many people would lost their mind over thing like this.

Speaking about NRS, other FG devs need to takes notes on them when it comes to single players modes for their next game(s)

Pretty sure that MK literally can't be sold in Japan due to being too violent (can't pass their console rating board). So, any crossover marketing potential is immediately shut down. Only hardcore nerds/FGC in Japan even have a passing familiarity with MK.

I’d say an MK guest wouldn’t really be ideal either. Especially given the difference in their scales on the violence in their games. Despite the series with it’s weapons and magic, Calibur is honestly quite tame with it’s violence especially in comparison to MK which takes that to a very over the top level (and has become a big selling point in the latter franchise). To put in an MK guest they’d more than likely have to be stripped down in order to fit in with the rest of the cast. And there’s no way Namco would try to up the antsy on their own games in terms of violence with SC and Tekken.

Actually i think it can work, NRS put already Subzero, Scorpion and Raiden in Injustice games and they ended working well even without that many violence.

Yes and no. There is indeed a lot to do in this game that's for sure. But many things are hidden behind incredible amount of nonsensical grind and RNG. Also many modifiers in Towers of Time are fun from being fun. Other than that - yes I would say it's great.
I'm kinda envious of MK fanbase. The series took up so much momentum with MK IX, the amount of budget the game now has is also enormous. Of course we can't compare Bamco to WB but then again it doesn't change the fact that one can get a bit jealous here

When it comes to Soul Calibur, Project Soul just needs to look at it's early games specifically SC3. I personally think NRS has gotten worse over the years when it comes to modes and bonus content, Deadly Alliance and Deception do a way better job in this department especially the Krypt, the modern version is more a casino than a charming mode for unlocking bonus content.

Yeah butt iirc there is still blood in that game. Less but still. We don't even have that. Also imagine soul caliburified scorpion. Would that look right?
Or giving the SC cast their own set of gruesome fatalities and brutalities. I mean, does anyone really want to see something like Sophitia stabbing someone’s heart out of their chest, or Voldo removing his opponents entrails and wrapping them around his katars like they were strands of spaghetti?...

...I didn’t think so. Plus how would you make the MK cast work in a 3D environment when their movesets have been mainly 2D in their mainstream franchise?

Haohmaru will answer that question for you when he becomes available in Soul Calibur but if you want a short answer now all you have to do is apply the rules of SC mechanics to a MK character such as horizontals, verticals, kicks and making projectiles come out fast that track. Not hard to do if you think about it.
