Soulcalibur VI DLC Discussion Thread

They do have higher IDs, but they're descending in value perfectly, if the rest were also in order. It's not impossible they don't matter, but I think they do.

Another way to look at it: maybe the order isn't related to the release schedule. Maybe the order is playable characters and then CAS item packs. Then it would fit being in the 5th slot.

Find out next time on Unsolved Mysteries: Datamine edition.
Hilde isn't returning in SCVI.

I just finished Libra of Souls main storyline this weekend and completed Raphael's and Zasalamel's chronicles. Part of this is going to have to go into another discussion but something has always struck out strange to me. The original timeline seemed to just repeat Soul Calibur 1 events twice in a way. But now it seems with Siegfried before Soul Calibur at the end of his Chronicle, Raphael with a vial from Azwel that will surely turn him into the Vampire, We are venturing into an entirely new series of events.

With that, all the final encounters between the Conduit and Zasalamel have been focused on none other than the Hero King himself. And not as though he is just speaking of Algol is out there. Zasalamel is fearful that Algol is already awakened because of all the surges of energy between the Spirit and Cursed Sword. The Conduit is even used as a vessel for Algol to speak his trademark "All your souls will belong to me!" Algol is awakened, and it's only a matter of a Star DLC before he materializes a body and begins seeking out the two swords to become whole again.

Yeah, I wouldn't hold your breath on that one. You'll have to share the screencaps (if you don't mind) if Zasalamel literally says he think Algol has awakened, because I think you've read into or misremembered something wrong, because I have no recollection of that. Now, I'll grant you, I am not super big on the story of this franchise--I tend to find it a little ham-fisted, silly, and bad structured--so I did A LOT of skipping of that canned, uninspired dialogue in Libra. But I did watch most of the interactions with Zasalamel and read his entire chronicles summary, and I just recall nothing of the sort. Also, taking a look at TresDias' very detailed breakdown of the SCVI plot and how much it parallels the original narrative beats of the first iteration of the story (which is to say, virtually identical in most respects), it seems to suggest that Zasalamel details Algol's story in Chronicles and and then ends with noting in the Libra epilogue that Algol is still in the Astral Chaos.

But much more problematic to your theory, I think, is that I believe you may dropping into some wish fulfilment by assuming STAR=Algol. Other than 'YELL', all of the forthcoming character codenames are either a straight translation or a synonym/near synonym for the actual name of a character. Setsuka=SNOW, Rock=STONE, Hwang=YELLOW, Lizardman=REPTILE....and Yun-Seong=STAR. That's a much better fit for the obvious pattern than "he has a few moves with 'star' in the name" or "a completely different fantasy video game series once had a star system named the 'Algol system' in it, twenty fives years ago." In fact, I think the only reason we got 'YELL' was because the last spot goes to Li Long, and they couldn't just call him DRAGON, because then people would lose their heads wondering if the second season pass was going to feature SCI-IV Lizardman and SCV Aeon. Which is not what you want when you just took a chance on an effort to disguise your viral marketing as a leak (and you were lucky enough to discover your fanbase was more gullible about such things than you could have ever dreamed possible)--a situation in which you don't want to send certain messages that fans may be confused by, like the possibility of having versions of Lizzi from opposite ends of the story arc.

@Rusted Blade There exists an actual star named Algol, colloquially known as "The Demon Star" that seems to be a direct translation of its arabian name "رأس الغول"
(waiting for confirmation of an arabian friend on this one, which if true, Algol would also be a translation of Star jist like Yun-Seong)

That's genuinely an interesting factoid--thanks for sharing that detail! Nevertheless, that's still one more step away from the plain meaning than Yun-Seong, whose given name literally means "star". Also, there's this: there are exactly eight main roster characters remaining from those exact games which have contributed characters to SCVI so far, and the two revealed explicit names and six suggestive names in the code match up more or less perfectly with them. I just think there's two many different lines of evidence pointing in the same direction. I hope there's a season three to leverage Algol and Hilde in (along with whoever else at that point), but I don't believe there's much chance that either of them is planned for season 2.

I'm not Arabian but i know the language, "رأس الغول" literally means "Monster's Head"

@Rusted Blade I have come to conceded to you that the Yell one will be Li Long. But it is only because I have noticed allot of happenings within the Soul Chronicle and Libra of Soul. Where I once stood that he has nothing to add he in fact does now. But Algol is name of a star. And Lizardman is a reptile. Rock is a Stone. They aren't exact name translations. And Setsuka doesn't literally mean snow; as in snow on the ground. But it's like snow flower so they aren't exact translations. I don;t think they will make Hilde yet any longer because mentions are even laced as mention to the future. Her model would be younger and the way Bamco is moving and having to re-render everything into the Unreal Engine I can see them lazily not wanting to make a young Hilde this game and then a older Hilde in the next one. It's best they save what assests they have that can be converted rather than having to build everything brick by brick again. And before you say most of the cast had too. You have to remember the last two games released were Soul Calibur 5 and Soul Calibur the Lost Swords. Between those two every character besides Hwang, Rock , Setsuka, Yun and Li-Long had updated models. Ironically the DLCs for season two cast. But I'm still going with Algol for Star because it's not Yun's time yet.

Li Long gets into a relationship with that girl from the Fu-Ma clan and eventually comes back to marry her. Toki no longer absorbs gel-o-fury meaning he is still alive. There is a Fu-Ma Clan arc outside of just focusing on Taki now and now he can be more involved in this. He was excluded from Soul Calibur 1-2 but now he can contribute more and have a more defined character and assist....I forget the sect of the Fu-Ma clan that just watches the head of the clan for signs going crazy....them in stopping Toki from getting Soul Edge. I see that the new DLC characters end up getting Soul Chronicles Time map being edited to allow characters to have new spots prior to 1583. But he has much to put into the story now.

You're welcome!

Fair enough.

Leaks are always better taken with a grain of salt since these can still be modified at any point in the game's development. On the other side, as much as i enjoyed playing Yun-Seong, adding a character like Algol would also serve to add new events to the timeline, extending it and making room for a Season Pass 3 where any possible missing character from SE-SCIII could be added along SCIV (and perhaps even SCV) characters without making the playerbase wait ages to see their mains back in an eventual SCVII while also being more resource efficient.

Yup, all i found was translations such as "Monster head", "Head of the ghoul", "Head of the demon", etc. That's why i asked to an arabian friend, since non natives and translators can sometimes miss details in the writings that can completely change the meaning of a sentence.

Edit: my friend basically confirmed the meanings given above to the aforementioned arabian word, and that at most it can refer to "big boss" as in a "big mean guy" sense and that's as close to SC's algol it gets. However, the point of Algol being an actual star still stands when it comes to keep hopes for his return in high.

Could you see that Algol might also make more sense for them because he’s less work to include? Where as they would release Hwang now, then begin building Yun with all the game play differences and source for balances. They don’t have to do much work on a model. Algol doesn’t have to worry much on the gameplay being so similar. Algol would also include more CaS parts, Yun’s hair is sort of already available.

A while ago there was a datamine/leak, detailing some codenames Iirc.
The names were: Stone, Reptile, Snow, Star, Yell, and Yellow.
People think it's a season pass 2 leak I believe.
Well, ignoring any possible guest and new character, which means my interpretation is bound to not be 100% correct, because we all know there will be at least one or two guests and one newbie, the first three codnames could mean, respectively, Rock, Aeon (who, by the way, is the Lizardman we always knew, people, stop referring to him and "Lizardman" as if they were different, they're the fucking same, aside from the generics from SC2) and Setsuka. The first two are pretty obvious, Setsuka had her name changed to "Neve" at some point in the old timeline, which means "snow" in portuguese. The explanation for star discussed above seems like a good justification for it to be actually Algol and I honestly cannot think of anyone who really fits that codename. Yell and Yellow are pretty weird, I don't know any character particularly known for yelling, nor anyone who actually has yellow as its signature color, but if I had to guess, I think "yell" seems like a thing Yun-Seong would do quite a lot, because he is hot-headed, and yellow could be Dampierre? Which kinda means that this pass would be garbage, because Rock and Dampierre are very hated characters and Algol is not that popular either, despite being incredibly hot in SC5. I'll think of possible guests that could fit those nicknames later.

People seem to think Hwang is yellow, cause apparently his name means yellow in Korean or something. I'm expecting stone to be a newcomer though (or at least hoping) because rock does not seem to be referred to like he's going to be in the game, specially with Asta getting all of his stuff. I hope yell is Hilde, whilst I'm hoping yun-seong decides to wear yellow this game.
I hope Aeon is in this game. He'd better be called Aeon too, since he started wearing a name tag in SCV I hope he actually is called Aeon, or he just becomes a generic lizardman to most people.

Algol is has awesome armour in SCIV, it'd be cool to see him break from something like in 4 to something like 5.

I just don't think rock should get in over Hilde, Setsuka, Yun, Hwang or even damp and algol. I just don't see what they could do to him to make him unique.

I was wondering if "yellow" could be Scorpion from Mortal Kombat... yellow is his signature color, he has his swords and spear which would make for a great moveset, and its easy to translate him into the SC franchise. Granted, WB would have little to gain from giving a character from one of the greatest fighting game franchises ever to a much smaller one, like Soul Calibur, but considering how Netherrealm's games have been very focused on pleasing the community, giving Scorpion an appearence in another game just to please an audience is not really out of question, since its not like SC6 would suddenly be a threat to MK11's success.

While I agree that Rock shouldn't get in over Hilde, Setsuka, Yun-Seong, and Hwang; I disagree with the notion that Algol and Dampierre should be added over him since they scored very low in the official character poll. They both scored lower than even Li Long who has not appeared as a non-bonus character in the console since 1996. On the other hand, Rock is a mainstay with a staple weapon in the form of a Giant Mace or Warhammer. After playing Seong Mi-na and seeing the Amy trailer, one can argue that Rock can be made unique from Astaroth with a completely redesigned moveset. This game also needs another "big man" since only Astaroth fits that role at the moment.

I thought about that too and would love Scorpion to be the guest character but YELLOW is expected to be Hwang. Just like Amy and Cassandra, Hwang has portraits and voice files already featured in the game so it makes sense for him to be added next. The datamined information is also not in order since Amy was revealed before Cassandra when it should have been the other way around with the data given to us. I expect STAR or maybe even YELL to be the guest character if anything.

I thought about possible guest characters and Scorpion makes a lot of sense since he is iconic and is also a fighting game character. It can also go well in a cross-promotion where Scorpion is featured in SoulCalibur VI and Nightmare is featured in Mortal Kombat 11. Another is Dante since Namco and Capcom have a great relationship and is a good way to promote both Devil May Cry 5 and SoulCalibur VI.
