Hi maxedcrew. Welcome to the Voldo forums. Canceling CR isn't as important as people are making it out to be. In SC4, you could cancel CR into block after only a few frames, making it a safe way to advance or retreat while giving the illusion of a possible attack, which would put your opponent in a defensive stance. It would also allow for you to make some moves safe that would otherwise be punishable on block. This is what we have in SC5. Voldo's A+B is unsafe (at -15), if Voldo players had the ability to transition into CR after doing this move, and be able to block right away, this move would be semi-abuseable. It's really not that big of a deal when you get past it.
I don't think CR~G was even intended to be in SC4. He was the only character that could cancel a 236 stance. I understand what you're saying. I remember you would do BS 236~G, 236~G, 236~G then BS 66G+A. The entire time your opponent would be frozen in place. You have to admit that this doesn't seem right. I would be happy to have it back, but I don't think we will get it back because I think it wasn't intended to be there in the first place. The point of CR is in the advancing tech crouching ability it has, not the ability to cancel it at will with G.
I have to disagree about it being unfair. Not all opponents froze in that situation and a simple 2A or 2K stopped pretty much all of Voldo's options post G cancel in SC 4
I really don't think I (and certain others) am overstating the importance of it, at least given the situation with CR as it stands now. Not cancelling A+B is unsafe. Cancelling A+B into CR isn't safe, CR mixups provide no actual mixup against most characters if your opponent just 2A's after the CR cancel, and even if they don't 2A, or don't step, just blocking the moves themselves makes it punishable. Without better frames or a far higher reward (I wouldn't suggest the latter) for CR, the G cancel is pretty necessary.
I'm not saying he can't win without it, but it is, no pun intended, gimping him ATM.
