Where the next game SHOULD go (but almost certainly won't)

First, the story. At the end of Soul Calibur 5, we see Patroklos and Pyrrha (ostensibly) destroy Soul Edge and Soul Calibur, with an appropriately dramatic energy explosion, and then they pledged to go back home.

Little did they know that the explosion had been a final attack on the part of the two swords, who collaborated with each other in order that they both may live. In the instant of the explosion, every warrior who had fought for either, or both, of the two swords instantly had their soul absorbed within the conscience of the two blades (which, as a result of their attack, had morphed into one new entity - Soul Apocalypse - which is constantly at war with itself).

Pyrrha and Patroklos were not assimilated immediately due to their strength of will just before they attempted to destroy the blades, and in the aftermath shown. However, very soon after SCV's story mode ends, they too are brought down by a concentrated flow of energy stemming from Soul Apocalypse, and are contained within the entity as well.

The souls registered within the blade includes everyone who has appeared in the Soul series so far, and at the age in which they last attempted to go after the sword(s) (in layman's terms, they will not have aged from their last appearance).

Now, an epic fight takes place amongst all the souls trapped within this entity. Some wish to reclaim the entity's power and use it to start a new age of darkness. Others wish to destroy the entity and allow the world to prosper. Still others wish to maintain this new entity to allow the balance of the universe to remain in place. But with the world's strongest warriors to fight against, and faced with a more powerful enemy than they have ever faced in the past, the warriors team up amongst themselves to increase their chances of success, as the ultimate battle ensues.

As you've probably guessed, this storyline is intended as a set-up for a Soul series take on 'Tekken Tag Tournament'. It would include every character, past and present, who fight in teams of two, with TTT-esque gameplay features like netsu (which varies depending on who is paired with who), health recovery and many others. There would, of course, also be the option to play 1v1, or 1v2 if one felt so inclined.

The gameplay system would function as follows:
* For the most part, it would function similarly to SC5 - Brave Edges and Critical Edges would still be there, the movement would function like in SC5, throw breaks likewise etc. However, there would be a few important differences:
** The guard break system would be a combination of SC4's and SC5's. Moves would only do, on average, about 2/3 of the 'guard meter depletion' they do in SC5. In return, however, the reward is much greater, as SC4's 'Critical Finishes' make a return.
** A+K move inputs would make a return, and in general move lists that were made smaller for SC5 would be made larger again (though a few superfluous moves would still be left out)
** In a similar vein to Tekken Tag Tournament 2, when damage is taken in tag mode, a portion of damage will be recoverable (the exact proportion depends on what moves they got hit by). When the character is tagged out, they will recover their health at a rate of about 2-3HP per second.
** Netsu will also be in place - when the lead character has taken sufficient damage, their partner will become 'enraged' and, once tagged in, their attack power will be increased by 25% for 8 seconds. This happens, by default, when the enemy has taken 50% of a lifebar's damage since last tagging in, but this can be higher or lower depending on the relationship of the tag partners (e.g. Cassandra and Sophitia get on well, so will not need to take as much damage for netsu to activate).
** Also like in TTT, there are ways to get rid of some of the opponent's 'recoverable health'. This can occur through taggable launchers i.e. launchers where you can tag out immediately and have your partner attack your opponent. The recoverable health eliminated is exactly equal to the combo damage dealt. Certain characters have launchers suited for this already (Xianghua/Leixia's 22B, Patroklos' 66B and 66B+K etc.), but the moves would be adjusted so that every character has at least one such launcher.
** To avoid matches taking forever, only one of the team's characters needs to be KO'd, not both.
** The old GI and new GI systems are combined. Characters can GI the old way with 6G, 4G etc., and there's also a 'universal' GI which GIs any GIable attack AND has more lenient timing, but at the cost of meter.
** Tag throws! Everyone would have generic tag throws, but teams that interact a lot would also have special ones available to use. All tag throws eliminate recoverable health.

Since all of that will never, ever happen, here are two more realistic requests for the series' direction:
* If not necessarily making a tag-oriented game, a tag side-mode at the very least would be great. The series has been going on almost as long as the Tekken series has, yet no such game has appeared yet.....
* Stop making the titles Soul Calibur 1,2,3... etc. and call it Soul... something else. Hell, 'Soul Edge 2' would be pretty cool.
