DARK SOULS 2- Praise the sun

40/40 builds aren't garbage. He's using a weapon with C scaling so of course the damage difference is shit. Pick up a club and slap 40 str on it and see if it does anywhere near the same damage as if you had the minimum to wield it. Granted it's still far weaker than you would be able to do with a faith/int/hex build but that's because it gets twice the scaling. It gets scaling from both the weapon/infusion and the buff you can use even after it's infused.

Edit: Also Dex scaling in general is garbage. From what I've heard they apparently nerfed it from what it was during the server test.

wow that's such shit, and i was literally on my way to making a 40/40 build lol.
Yeah, my main build is a 40/40 :/
Straight up strength weapons are way too slow and it looks like quality and dex weapons are better off being imbued with elemental damage than being straight up normal. This guy is a serious Dark Souls PvPer, I'll post a few of his other vids in here. I find them interesting so I'll share them here :)

I believe in that second 40/40 video he did less damage with the elemental longswords with 38INT/38FTH compared to 40/40. So while for certain weapons you may as well make them elemental, it's still beneficial to be STR/DEX based even with that elemental weapon... based on damage alone of course.
Also, weapon buffs don't scale, so by getting one attunement slot you can easily add one of those if you wanted.

This is C C scaling for you though, and what Twiz says is very true.
My hex character uses a club as a melee weapon, and has 43 STR, 40 INT and 40 FTH. I infused his Club with dark, and it does about 2 damage more... with 40INT/FTH on top of the STR. The benefit there is that I can buff the weapon for bonus damage and get some damage through shields, but 43 STR alone on the standard Club does what it takes 43/40/40 to do on a Dark Club.
(By the way, did you know that dark scales with your lowest INT/FTH stat? Just like END/ADP poise and mundane weapons with everything. I only noticed that recently because the tooltips lie.)

Something else I noticed while messing around with that Club is that raw is actually pretty good. At +10, the bonus damage from the infuse is actually quite close to the scaling, and on a weapon with low or no scaling and high base damage, raw could start to pay off.
I wanted to test it on Bluemoon Greatsword, but didn't have the DEX to use it... :/
Of course, if you're not investing in STR/DEX and you're not using an elemental weapon and investing in INT/FTH, what are you investing in? VIT?

I agree that 40/40 isn't garbage but compared to weapons that are already infused and you slap a weapon buff on them kinda makes it sad how the damage scaling has been nerfed if you're a pure melee or dex character. And dex scaling really is bad to me to the point for me it is the hardest class to play pvp wise and im pretty much making a hybrid now by having a dark melee character (making my weapons dark and giving them the resonant buff spell) maybe that would give me more damage because right now having low damage output in pvp is a serious issue.

I understand dex was a bit over the top in DS1 but right now it just seems that its too much.

Anyone know some good weapons for faith build? I'm on NG++ and rocking 40/40 with 50 faith. I usually use Lightning Defender GS +5

I'm trying to 100% this game, as in getting all of the spells and miracles ect. and I'm not sure if it would be better to join the Brotherhood of Blood get 500 kills and do the same with the Blue Sentinels or go to NG++ and just buy the covenant spells from Wellager. One is time consuming and the other is just painful... xD

So, before I do this, I just wanna know; is it possible to remove an infusion from a weapon if you don't like the performance? If so, what stones do you need?

Yes and you need no stones iirc. Just 1000 souls to revert back to its original
nope, you need a palestone. kinda sucks but whatcha gonna do?

i keep re-joining the blue sentinels hoping for more invasions with blue eye orbs and i'm constantly let down. it also just sucks that you don't get a token of fidelity at least for winning. i really hope From revamps the reds and blues bc it is just a pain to do anything with them.

can you spell-parry soul greatsword? i mean i suck at normal parrying online, so this is more of a curiosity thing i guess.

The fastest way is to learn to hex edit... Kappa
Dark Souls 2's saves are stupidly simple by the way.

I can't imagine leveling Blue Sentinals when each blue orb requires either an entire co-op, farming or 10,000 souls... only to get some laggy guy who's Soulmass doesn't launch until you're mid-backstab and kills you during it, or the same Moonlight Greatsword build that everybody fucking has.
I don't know if it's the same for Sentinels, but did you know that for Bell Keepers and, I hear, Blood--ummm... bros... ... ...losses detract from your covenant ranking. I've gotten the rank 1 reward for Bell Keepers at least three times now.

Odd... I found blue orbs to be more effective than red as they search across all areas if they don't find anything nearby, although they are harder to get of course. Maybe that's just because of NG+ though... I hear it's a common habit to kill all the NPCs prior to starting NG+, so maybe there are more sinners.

Speaking of sinning, absolution doesn't seem to work... I spent 300k absolving twice and was still a sinner, but then after killing a bunch of arbiters I went back to normal, but then became a sinner again after some invasions of my own... I've no idea how that system actually works.

I would assume you can negate the damage, but I can't imagine it reflecting... It's probably more rewarding to roll through and get the free backstab.

never thought about that, might have to take my sentinel onto NG+ for some action. i should also mention that i have cross-region play turned off because i really don't wanna fight someone across the ocean only to get lag-stabbed. i haven't really run into any lag issues yet, but i've seen people get the ol' fashioned DS1 lag-stab. kinda wish that the winner in the duel at least got to keep their token, that's pretty much the only reason i am blue since the ring doesn't work for shit.

also found out you can dual-wield a spear and a sword at the same time. i was under the assumption that it had to be 2 weapons in the same weapon class to dual but i guess not. guess that means i'm making a hilde character.

I haven't had any luck with that ring either, even at 150 and in NG+. I'm sure you know this, but you can only be automatically summoned by a covenant ring while the icon left of your health bar is flashing... Blue Sentinels' ring only works when you are inside the Cathedral, basically around that bonfire. ...I didn't know that for a while, but even still, I've never been summoned.

I sorta did that too. I made a lance character with a huge focus on healing (because Lucatiel is an idiot) ...and lances are so unsafe you need a sidearm for them. It feels like a dagger L1 is safer than waiting for the lance to recover on it's own. She's between Mail Breaker and Mace of the Insolent for now though.
I didn't know you could dual wield a sword and spear either... I'm gonna give it a try now, and I'm praying it's not that god awful dual halberd moveset that everything seems to get.

when you dual spear and sword you do the dual spear moveset i.e. the simultaneous thrust attacks.

It's not, but you do get some nice range even if all you get are thrusts.

Personally, I find the heide lance one of the better spears since it has a very powerful multi-hit charge attack with a powerful stun. Syan halberd isn't too bad either. Arch drake mace has huge poise damage - the best I've seen - wielding it is a pain in the rear, though.
