Age of sexual consent... Is pedophilia real or something we made up?

A few weeks ago, a local news covered a story about 52 men were arrested for patronizing a local prostitute who lied about her age. Everyone believe she is 20 years old when in reality, she is 16.

This made me think: Why is it illegal for an adult to have intercourse with a minor? It's not like something magical suddenly happens when you turn 18. What do you guys think?
 
How I see it: the age specified in individual laws is arbitrary, the idea is to keep kids from being exploited and abused, the arbitrary age is just a means to an end. Age of consent laws are generally a good thing in my mind, save for the times when things are taken too strictly and we get things like people being arrested for having consensual sex when they themselves are just barely a major and their other participant(s) is (are) just barely underage, much like what happened with Marcus Dixon.

Also, the whole teen pregnancy thing. In the years when kids are becoming interested in sex their hormones are too kooky to make good decisions(e.g. use protection/don't go to a gangbang where everyone does meth) so they kinda need to at least not have to worry about adults getting in their pants right?
 
16 is legal age of consent in the UK, however if someone is 18 or over and is a position of trust they can't have sex with them (doctors, carers, teachers etc.)
 
it is all about making your own decisions, if this girl was doing that on her own will, then there´s nothing wrong about it
 
Actually its only illegal to solicit for prostitutes, or if the prostitute is 'controlled'.

So it has to be done very privately, laws are stupidly unclear, my bad.

That's not how it works anymore though. No sex until marriage usually means no sex at all nowadays, unless you go to a very conservative little town in Alabama or something. I think early twenties is a good age to start, but that's just me. However, I believe in blind justice and unbiased laws, so I think people should have sex with whoever they want (as long as both individuals are mature enough of course). How mature is that? There's no way to tell, so just reduce the age of sexual consent to what science says it is: 14. Done.

As much as I'd like to lower the age to 14 just for sweet happy endings for everyone, I think it would be stupid. Fourteen year olds that are horny will try to do stuff like adults. They will rebel. They will do whatever they want(especially poorly disciplined ones).


The one thing that peeves me these days, is certain Americans are like those Jersey shore idiots. They are full of drama and have no common sense or sense of moral. Thus, quite a bunch of single parents who made stupid decisions. No matter the age or place.


I am like a wolf. When I mate, I mate only to that one lady. One dick to stick into that chick. However, that's my old fashioned nature flaunting that if the relationship is too much sex, it might corrupt a pure love.
