HolyCarp: Imagination and Free Time (a CaS Gallery)

Gloves have been taken off and hurl at the ground with a level of strength that caused small craters. Ants are flocking to them as holy grounds.

He's clearly a renaissance man. LOOK at him, LOOK. Italian/Spanish/French, I'm unable to narrow it down, but he's so casually fabulous that he could fit right into any of those three. Saying that though, it looks like you've roughed him up a little - His hair is unkempt, his colours look faded and scuffed, seems he hasn't changed for a while, and his face looks a bit haggard.

Judging from his thumbnail, which artfully hides his face, but shows a lavish party in the background, I'd say he was hiding his true nature. It brings to mine Rapheal's old opening, where he's hiding from the guards. Is he a conman? Such extravagant clothing, but so unkempt, could be they were a cheaply purchased disguise?

His costume doesn't seem to be overly battle-oriented, so he doesn't seem one for fighting, but those shoes don't look too comfortable, or in tact. Are they meant to be open or are they supposed to look like they've fallen apart?

I'm guessing he's a conman adventurer type. Maybe he convinces the rich and famous to fund bullshit expeditions, or he could be a disgraced nobleman on the run for crimes of a nefarious nature!

Or maybe he's just the town eccentric who everybody is aware of and ignores.

Thank you for picking up the gauntlet. But no need to hurl it back at the ground with such force! However, you pointed out a lot of the main things I was trying to convey (which I have highlighted in red), and although he's not a conman, the idea that he's hiding his true nature is pretty key. Though I do like your guess; conman would suit this CaS, no doubt.

Well I suppose it's time to reveal all...



His name is Lorenzo and he's a Renaissance artist. He made his fortune at a young age by decorating Roman Catholic churches and chapels in Florence (the above picture shows him at a slightly younger age). Given that this was a time of free thinking and revolution, Lorenzo became more and more ambitious with his work, depicting scarcely explored themes and provocative imagery. However, he was heavily persecuted by the Catholic Church for themes of homo-eroticism present in his art. The churches no longer accepted his work, and in many cases, they even burned his paintings. As he witnessed his life accomplishments ablaze with the prying fingers of merciless flames, he came to the harsh realisation that his passion would never be welcome in this so-called 'free-thinking society'.

With his paintings and his inspiration burned to ashes, Lorenzo became unable to find his enthusiasm for art, or life. Although he maintained a façade, little passion remained behind this pretence, as he continued to mask his true nature.

While I didn't expect anyone to guess 'closeted homosexual painter', I'm still really amazed at how everyone picked up on the main things that I was trying to portray. You seemed to notice how he was once successful but had recently fallen upon hard times (which I achieved by picking bold colours and then bringing down their saturations, and by juxtaposing extravagant clothing and unkempt features). And you also picked up on the idea that he's hiding from something, or perhaps hiding something about himself.

It's pretty amazing that without any information about this character, not even a name, you all knew exactly what I wanted you to know about him. Although Lorenzo is far from being one of my favourite creations, I do feel like this was a pretty elegant demonstration of how much of the story can be told by the CaS itself. So thanks for the idea, @brucege.

The Oracle



When she opens her eyes, she has vivid visions of the future. However, her power is not without a price. Each time she glimpses that which is fated, she ages rapidly, and the farther into the future she gazes, the more years of her life get stripped away from her. Despite the bleak premonitions she has witnessed, she still clings onto the will to survive, hence she constantly wears a blindfold in order to keep her powers dormant.

Creeeeepy. That does seem to be your specialty after all. The sticker work on the blindfold is distinctly demonic. Suggests that she may not be as innocent as her bio suggests. The dress is simple, but the eye-like pattern goes well with the whole oracle theme. Her awakened form has some crazy ass eyes. Almost as though she's seen so much that her eyes have been stretched wide open, revealing the cold abyss within her soul. I see the eye markings on her dress are activated too. If I were you, I'd keep the dormant form's face pretty so that viewers can see the change going into the awakened form. Not that using her powers once would age her 20 years, but dramatic effect and stuff...Very cool original.

So I stumbled upon a folder with all a load of CaS screenshots I've never posted here. May as well dump them here before SCVI comes out.
