EDIT:
I'm also a classically-trained singer, by the way. It doesn't really show in the video above (I hadn't really warmed-up), nor in most any offerings of the band, but I'm a bass-baritone, if anyone so happens to be curious of such things.
I've been playing saxophone (all kinds, but primarily bari sax) for more than 10 years now, and I am finishing up my degree in jazz studies this year. I plan on writing music for a living, hopefully in videos games or a related industry :)
I've played guitar for almost a decade now. I'm able to do some tapping riffs and mathy rhythms, but I guess being over skilled at it has cost me the chance of being in a band where my riffs are the sole benefactor to the songs.
Luckily, I picked up bass recently and learned how to play a whole lot less notes and groove more in 4/4, and am now in a retro revival band where I'm not the main song writer. I've accepted my fate...for now. But one day I'll find a drummer who can keep up with my offbeat style. Til then, I'll keep it simple because less is more.
