That's right ladies and gentlemen, CouchWarriors is back for 2012 and this time we're trying to bring you something a little new and different.

There are a lot of great tournaments around now and the Melbourne FGC calendar is stronger than ever, but we've always felt that CouchWarriors events represented something more than just a tournament, they were a place to hone your techniques, a place to get some long sets in and learn your matchups and a place to relax and hang out with new and old friends. With that in mind we didn't want to bring you guys just another tournament, we wanted to build on that experience and make it better, and thus we present you with the newly coined Fighters Festival series.

Our first event will be starting off at Solei Bar and Lounge in Moonee Ponds, it's a great central venue right on the tram tracks and a short walk from the train station with ample parking at the nearby shopping centre. It's not just a place to set up our gear but also a place to drink, eat, money match, drink match, train, give advice, get advice, anything you want to do with fighting games, this is your place to do it. Shadowloo Night Live will not be running on the weekend of this premier event so those who would usually attend this event, worry not, we will still have you covered for high class tournament action.

But that's not all we've got for you at the first event of the year!

We're proud to announce that in conjunction with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Bandai Namco we'll be running a Soul Calibur 5 qualifier event for the big Video Games Unplugged orchestral concert. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to play on stage with an entire orchestra playing the battle music to spur you on. The event will be hosted by Wil Wheaton (The Big Bang Theory), Scott Kurtz and Kris Straub (Penny Arcade TV) and more details can be found at: http://www.videogamesunplugged.com.au/

The top 4 from the qualifier will get the chance to play on stage (2 per night) and the winners will take home awesome prizes courtesy of Bandai Namco and the Soul Calibur experience of a lifetime.

We'll also have Gamespot covering the event and doing write-ups on the aftermath of the big day so I urge everyone to come and represent the true strength of the Melbourne fighting game community so we can all help out scene grow and thrive.

If all that hasn't whet your appetite here's a sample menu from the Solei kitchen, the establishment is committed to high quality pub food at cheap as chips prices so we guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Chicken Parma - $12
Chicken Burger - $10
Beef Burger - $10
Steak Sandwich - $15
Calamari Fritti - $15
Nachos - $8
Wedges - $8
Chips - $5
(and more drinks both alcoholic and non-alcohoic to keep you oiled up all day)

All fighting games are welcome, the Smash scene is back on board and ready for a new year and we'll be supporting the new Street Fighter x Tekken as well as all the old favourites. A full schedule of tournaments will be released soon once we lock down the details with the individual organisers.

In the meantime if there's something you want to see and any FG related games or events that you want us to accomodate at the event just let us know. As always CouchWarriors is here 100% for the Melbourne community and we'll be doing everything we can to make sure that this is an event you will not ever want to miss.

See you all there,
Loki
