Well, first, yes, most of my custom characters are based on characters I didn't create myself. I just think that this is more challenging than creating original designs for the game. I had a bigger list of recreated CaS before, but deleted many to make something else. I'll post the other CaCs later. They aren't recreations, unlike these, but aren't fully original either... Formulas for everyone are included too.

Soul Calibur II

For some reason, I always liked playing as Assassin back in SCII.

Anyway, I ended up going with Xianghua's style here, rather than Yun Seong's. She has a sword that resembles his and some of Assassin's moves were kept by Xianghua rather than Yun Seong.

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

This one must be very common. Anyway, I attempted to make Link from Twilight Princess, so, darker colors and he wears a yellowish chain mail under his clothes.

Tales of Symphonia

Well, actually, I never played Tales of Symphonia, but I did play Soulcalibur Legends, and enjoyed him there. He was one of the first characters I made in SC4 just due to how easy his parts were to get.

Samurai Warriors 3

Yukimura Sanada, a Japanese commander from the Warring states era. He was a real person and was actually alive and active during the time Soulcalibur takes place, but the design I used here was specifically based on that game.

Chrono Trigger

Crono, the lead from Chrono Trigger... I ended up going with this hair, rather than the spiky one, due to the bangs falling over his face. Crono without bangs just looked weird, while this hair can be seen as a more realistic take on Toriyama's crazy banana hair.

Angol Mois

Angol Fear was based on this character, but her personality was much more aggressive than Mois'. Although Angol Fear's second colors were based on Mois', there were still some big design differences and her personality is just so different from Mois that I ended up making a Mois recreation in the editor anyway.

A human teenager in an alien powered armor! Well, in Soulcalibur's system, it just looks like standard armor, but at least the colors match.

Baio is the president of the Nishizawa Peach Group, a company that controls 51% of Earth's economy in the present of the Keroro Gunso series.

He's also a thinly disguised older Ryu who married a thinly disguised (psychotic) Chun-li.

Darkstalkers - Midnight Bliss

Demitri got in Darkstalkers 3/Vampire Savior an attack called Midnight Bliss, which turns his opponent into a girl (if it's a girl, she just becomes a different girl, like Morrigan becoming a young child in white pajamas).

He immediately sucks the opponent's blood and she explodes, returning to her original form. In any case, these designs were well liked enough to get figurine releases, even though they only appear to explode in the game itself, so, I decided to make custom characters based on these forms. I actually had made customs based on the original ones too, but ended up deleting them eventually and these were the only ones that remained.

To avoid more confusion regarding them, here are the original designs of the Bliss forms:

Going clockwise, starting from Demitri: Demitri, Bishamon, Donovan, Akuma, Anakaris, Lord Raptor.

Demitri

Demitri becomes a high school girl who vaguely resembles a mage or witch of some sort. This transformation is from Capcom Fighting Jam, not the original Darkstalkers.

Bishamon

The cursed samurai becomes a blue haired girl in a skimpy kimono. The shoulder pads I used here don't appear in the game transformation, they're from the figurine that Capcom eventually released.

I used Yoshimitsu's style for Bishamon mostly due to his weird attacks, compared to Mitsurugi's more traditional style, but, of course, the flag kind of hurts the visual.

Midnight bliss Akuma

Thanks to a crossover with Darkstalkers, Akuma becomes... a maid. In the game, he actually has two different forms with different hair styles, there's a brown haired one with a ponytail and slicked back hair, and another one with black hair and bangs. I went with the ponytail design for this, especially because it was the main one chosen for the Midnight bliss figure package that Capcom eventually released.

Since I can't find any idea unless someone can make one, I decided to genderbend it with Kilik. Even though this is unoriginal, at least I drew an idea by being making some compromises.

For the most part? I kinda find most CAS of yours to be rather bad to be honest imho.

I mean the genderbends is way off. The female Bishamon for instance looks nothing like the genderbend and I personally like Bishamon from darkstalkers. The only two CAS I like from you is Morrigan and Ike, but they've been done better by other people.

Even though I'm ripping at you for saying your CAS is "yawn bad and unoriginal", please don't take it as an attack for I understand you're a fan of a darkstalker or so and where you're coming from. Huh... I think you misunderstood what I was doing with those "genderbend" characters. I didn't attempt to create original genderbend versions, they're based on the official Capcom designs for the "Midnight bliss" curses of each character. Now, if you didn't think I recreated them well, like the Ike and Morrigan, that's another matter, but I don't think you got what I was doing...

For an example, here's Midnight Bliss Bishamon from the Darktalkers game itself:

Yes, she doesn't look much like normal Bishamon, but that's the official Capcom design for her and that's the character I was trying to make.

Here's a picture of the figure Capcom released later. It comes with optional shoulder pads (which is why I gave the CaS shoulder pads - I didn't give her the arm armor to keep her with the oversized sleeves).

She is that guy genderbent though. That's Bishamon genderbent by an enemy attack that's supposed to turn him into a vampire pray, that's why he goes from a samurai to a girl in a skimpy kimono.

Anyway, well, just to get this thread out of the way now that SCV is out, and I'll soon be getting it, I'll post some other SC IV CaS that I had done before...

These were genderbend versions of the SCIV cast. However, I often tried to tweak them to make them either more feminine or more "manly". Some are straight genderbent versions (like Mitsurugi, Maxi and Hilde), but for some other characters, like Kilik or Sophitia, I didn't try to follow their original designs too closely. You could look at some of them more like, rather than straight genderbents, attempts to "convert" their character concepts to the opposite gender. My main intention was to make this alternate cast more or less "balanced" compared to the original cast as far as design variation goes, so, most guys turned into girls have been tweaked to be more "feminine", rather than just cosplaying their male versions. You've got fanservice-ish girls and girls in more neutral clothing, young 'cool' males but also rougher ones.

Well, I took some liberty with this design. Were this any other Siegfried, I'd have given her full armor, but SCIV Siegfried is kind of a magic knight, with the Soul Calibur and crystal armor, so I thought this magical girl design with the skirt and large blue ribbon fits his female self.

Not a straight conversion of the female Xianghua, but pretty close to one I think. I've replaced her short shorts with pants and removed the undershirt, to show more skin in the chest to make up for the covered legs. It's a showy outfit but he still looks kind of heroic, so I think it works. Kind of like Kilik in earlier Soulcaliburs.

Unlike other characters, with Maxi's whole "pirate" concept, I thought keeping her pants was fitting. In general, this was one of the cases where I just attempted to make a direct conversion of the male design.

I actually tried several different shirts for this Talim, and ended up going with this seemingly odd choice. I kind of felt like this was the only one that allowed me to keep the correct color pallet, with the green sleeveless jacket over a white area. The chains are kind of out of place, but I guess you could compare them to the jewels that the real Talim wears.

His main costume in SC4 is kind of exhibitionist for a male, so, his female version, although getting covers for her breasts, gets skimpy clothes rather than pants, making her stand out among the other reverse female characters, who are more... clothed. Kind of like his original version to the other male cast members.

This one ended up rather... odd, I guess. Not much to say about it. I didn't go with the kimono due to the way Setsuka wears hers open, so I think this approaches her concept and personality more.

I considered giving Yoshimitsu a more feminine outfit, but ultimately gave up and just tried to recreate his male self's first costume, since showing human parts kind of breaks the concept of his character. Of course, with armor break, her human form is visible anyway...

This design could be divided in two sections. For the upper body, aside from the long hair, I just tried to make her look like Raphael. However, for the lower body, I went with a long skirt, making her look closer to a traditional female vampire, just like male Raphael resembles a traditional male one in SCIV.

Remaking Amy's clothes and even hairstyle in a male character would be impossible, so I just tried to make a character that looked like a "young noble" using Amy's colors. Still, the boots and fur on the arms are attempts at a callback to Amy's original design.

Female Voldo. Well, there's no way a female Soulcalibur character would look as creepy as his male version, so I didn't try to do that. I generally tried to approach his male outfit, although I also gave her hair, rather than just leaving her bald.

This is the design that deviates the most from the original. I tried to go with some cloth only outfits for a while, but they just didn't look good. At least, this carries the concept of an ancient warrior, and he still has the sandals and a white cloth wrapped around his armor. He also ends up vaguely resembling Patroklos, I guess.

Male Tira is kind of a straight conversion, as far as SC4's system allows it. I tried to match up the outfit colors, although I gave him pants, rather than shorts. It just makes the design comes together better. Like the female version, you've got a seemingly innocent young warrior who's actually a psychopath.

Like I said, I made some tweaks in the designs in an attempt to make them look like a more balance cast. For Zasalamel, the two obvious alterations are the hair that I've given her and the leotard + high stockings, rather than pants.

I somewhat agree with Pocky-Yoshi for the first batch. I liked the Mahou Shoujo look for Natsumi though. However, this second batch of characters is really cool! I actually lol'ed when I saw man Talim. Man Hilda, Manseong, Chickvantes, chick Maxi, and man Ivy are just about perfect in my opinion. I'd probably tap Girlfried. Now go make some money and buy SCV!
