Portable Pocket Device for lecture reading

One of the biggest issues when commuting is the time wasted to get to your destination. I could've spent an hour just reading lecture notes, but my only option was from a huge one and half inch binder and it's too clunky. Also I'm wasting paper and ink for lecture notes (usually in PDF or MS powerpoint).

So what I'm looking for is a portable device that fits in my pocket easily that read lecture notes. I'm likely willing to spend around $100 to under $200. Can anyone throw some suggestions?

I don't have such a sophisticated cell phone and I don't make calls too often. Besides it's really old. I was thinking either an e-reader or a tablet.

You could get a new cell phone. For $200, you could swing one that does quite a bit outside of making the odd call.

That aside, a Kindle Fire or a Nexus 7 could do the job.

^Ya but then again I don't make frequent calls.

Thanx for the suggestion anyways I already got a tablet, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 @ 7inches for $199 . I admit the size was bigger than I expect, but I guess that would suffice from that point onward.
