Project Soul wants to know your favorite characters!

  • Admin
Early this morning, the SoulCalibur Facebook page opened a poll to see who are the fan favorite characters in the series. The list seemed to have every playable SoulCalibur character in the list to choose from. The only ones I didn't see when I was skimming were the bonus characters introduced in SCIII and SCIV.

Considering that the vote includes Lost Swords character, then it is safe to say that this is for a future SoulCalibur VI character roster. Please note that this is not a confirmation for a SoulCalibur VI. It is only speculation on my part. If you would like to have your voice to be heard, then you should get on your Facebook account and follow the directions in the spoiler below.

VOTE FOR THE FUTURE OF SOULCALIBUR

Calling all SoulCalibur Fans! Project Soul would like to hear your voice.

They need to determine precisely who are the favorite characters of the community!
Beware, you can vote only once so choose carefully and wisely.
You still have time to think about it as this survey will last until May 31st.

Project Soul is probably preparing something huge... Stay tuned and spread the news! Thank you.

Be VERY CAREFUL when filling out the information before voting. The form allowed me to manually fill in my information, but messed around to see if I could skip the email part and move on. I figured out the hard way that once you are done with the first name, last name, and email part, you are then locked out from editing it altogether. I ended up borrowing my Mom's Facebook just so that I could finally get my vote in. However, when I used her account it auto-filled her information for whatever reason. All of that was a pain for me, but the voting part was easy.

You can only vote for one character when you do this. All you have to do is click the heart when you're hovering over the picture and that will count as a single vote. Who did you vote for? Comment and let us know who you want in the next SoulCalibur game!

WHENS SOULCALIBUR VI
Don't forget the fact that Hoshino said that SCLS is a spin-off ! Maybe the story is non canon in this episode.
I don't play Lost Swords, but is there any story-based informations we get in the description of the different missions ?

I agree with part of that, the meter system is good for Critical Edges. I don't like how it replaces guard impacts and I don't like Brave Edges, as the majority of Brave Edges where just frames in SCIV which are better and require more skill to pull off, which I like more.
Which BEs are just frames from previous games? The only ones that come to mind are Voldo's 66B BE (Which is arguable since his 666B acts like his old 6:6B), Cervantes' 4B BE (Though he still has iGDR and 4B is basically a safe slightly tracking version of it, lol), Raph's Prep BB BE, and Tira's 66B/666B BE.

Also metered GI is an improvement over the old system, imo. You don't have to guess hit levels anymore and you have more frame advantage to work with after a successful GI (I think the GI window itself might also be slightly larger). GI battles also have higher stakes now and if you get GI'd when you have no meter yourself, you're screwed lol.

What I explained is in the intro to Lost Swords. Then each episode has a big explanation (Kind of like Weapon Master Mode in SCII) that continues on. I'm not saying Lost Swords is canon, I'm just saying that the information it provides could be used for SCVI as an explanation to include both SCIV and SCV characters.

I can't remember all the Brave Edges but I do know that some of Pyrrha's Brave Edges are just frames for Sophitia in SCIV, and same with Alpha, some of his Brave Edges and just frames for Setsuka in SCIV (I think, or something looks similar anyway). Also, one of Ivy's grabs is a simple Brave Edge which is just terrible. Like I said I really can't remember them all though.

Nope, I disagree I don't see it as an improvement. It's easy yes, but I like the challenge of having to know what type of hit your opponent is going to do in order for you to get an impact. I like how they're infinite as well. I like the parries too as if you parry your opponent into the wall you can get wall combos which adds more gameplay. That's just my opinion though, and I respect your opinion too.

I'm not frightened if my opponent doesn't punish accordingly after JG. JG isn't too hard for me, I'm just lazy to go the extra mile.

If Sophitia and Pyrrha both canonically return (in the main game, not DLC) who do you think will have the Omega Sword & Elk Shield? The other would have to get a new weapon (or a returning one. I would honestly love to see the return of the Owl Shield).

But JG is something that only a few people is able to perform. QS in the other hand, can be used by everyone.

I know because is a technique that requires skill. Mastering it is awesome because punishment becomes better depending on your character. JGing an AA or a BB is awesome because you can punish very safe moves. A. Pat gets JFT x2 and does 71 DMG meterless.

Sophitia will have the Omega Sword & Elk Shield.
If Pyrrha was to return, she'll have her own original weapon.

Quick step isn't bad. Maybe I trained myself too hard to wind charmer too hard back in the day for what quick step is meant for.

This has to do with lows in general being weakened across the board. Maybe its a way to prevent lag-spamming lows online, but only a few characters have strong enough lows (that are also fast enough to be difficult to react to). Why would anyone still try to guess low ?

As I said before, Sophitia is the less likely get any changes due to how iconic she is. Pyrrha will likely use a different set, perhaps one of her alternates from SCV?

Well, I spoke to Daishi back in the day when SC5 was being developed. He actually talked to me a lot about Talim while not directly saying she was in the game.

I told him once about how I would miss having a character with the wind charmer stance if she were not in the game. He replied to me and told me that with quick step all characters effectively get wind charmer... Eh, not true but meh.

He later asked me why I like to play Talim so much and to see if I could put it into words. I told him that I like her pure spirit and try hard attitude. He told me that Leixia would fit into that category, or maybe Pyrrha. This was before the roster was finalized.

Later when Talking about Talim he asked me how I would feel if she was corrupted by Soul Edge to make her different and bring something new her character. I told her I would play her if this happened, but I would miss her attitude.

Once I bugged him after I found out that she was not going to be in SC5. He told me that his answer is not canon, but for me to consider her to be on a adventure during the events of SC5 and that she was not dead or the like, just "away".

Yeah, I bugged him a lot.

His answers did make me think that he wanted something to make Talim add more to the game if she came back, like introduce a new idea or mechanic or something, and this theme was common with most of his new characters. I am thinking later that I appreciate the sentiment, but does every character in the game add something entirely new or different? Meh. Just brainstorming here, I'm not even sure what I am trying to say.

Doesn't really matter now what Daishi was planning to do, since he's gone. I wonder how he feels about whats happened after he left.

True that. I mean, I do wish that different things were done with SC5 but it was still a great game and one I enjoyed a lot despite the lack of my favorite wind priestess. I think if the game had another three months of dev time it would have been a much better title, but the way it worked it likely made more money.

Okay I have a chart update for yall. Added a bar chart just to play with it.

The most interesting part I found in this data collection is the following.

Viola had a growth spurt and passed Maxi!

Half the field experienced a zero gain in votes, Only 13 characters had more than 1 vote gained. Still there were 62 votes added, a slight decrease from the 69 last time.

I have also noted a voting trend. In the beginning the male votes absolutely had the upper hand, but over an extended period the ladies have had more gains than the guys, yet still not a higher total in votes. The women have staying power it seems though!

For example.
May 19th.
Votes for females 38
Votes for males 24

May 17th
Votes for females 36
Votes for males 33

May 15th
Votes for females 73
Votes for males 53

However in the earlier data the males had a 400 point lead, and the first data collection points a 100 vote, then a 30 vote advantage, but since then it has gone the other way.

Eh, anyway I thought it was an interesting trend.
