Cervantes Q&A / General Discussion

So how's Cervy been going for you guys? Everyone you play against still treating 2A+B like it's plus on block? lolololol
Most of my comp treats it like it's still unsafe. It's fine by me, either way. That move is a great way to figure out what people want to do, which becomes excellent bait for all sorts of nastiness. Woe betide the poor fool who tries to grab afterward if'n I've got any meter...

So frustrating when you can't pull a single iGDR in a tournament match but all the time in training lmao

Gotta have the mental toughness to work past that in a tourney if you wanna play this character. That's why I dropped him lol, it takes all of my mental toughness not to smash the nearest person over the head with my stick when I start missing iGDR. And that's just plain uncool. So now I play someone with no JF inputs, lol.

ShinJ and pharoh: when you go 2-7 at what point do you input b? Also will this work on stick and pad? I love the old pyrate, but I feel handicapped not being able to igdrc consistantly.

And in one of the above videos the input for igdrc was 214 b+g is this common? Will it make gdrc easier? What else can it do?

in my mind i press the B as i hit 1, but i'm sure in reality i do it as i hit 4.
Normally if i mess it up i get 1b and not DC B which is obviously a much better situation.

Yea, i press B immediately after doing 4. It's like i'm pressing B and 7 simultaneously. But i don't even hit 1 or 2, i just do a slight rotation naturally when i go to 4, enabling me to press B way more reliably and faster than when fully going to 21. There's no delay.

And yea, the good thing with having a fast IGDR/GDRC technique is that you rarely get DC B as an input error. I'm no Cervantes expert i've just practiced IGDR before learning him.

What to do after a iGDR which is not an other iGDR ?

I think I must begin with this because try to always make a iGDR iGDR iGDR is not a good solution to begin with Cerv.

2B+K
2A+B
4B BE - Not worth the meter spent.
Pretty much anything you want.

If consistency isn't on your side, you can start the combo if you land 4B BE, that way that's one less iGDR to worry about.

You really need to try to make the iGDRx2+ combo as much possible as you can. It's simply his most damaging one.

Question on Cervantes iGDR combos:
I've been getting a tad more consistent with iGDR, and so I'm trying to make combos with it.
How do I do two iGDR in one combo? Hates dazzled me with a 3 iGDR combo at one point. Blew my mind...

Example: iGDR, i214 B. (He'll do a little spinny thing that I'm not sure what to call it)

That's just another iGDR that looks like WR B+K. The timing is right before your opponent hits the ground. The third's timing is right after you hit the ground. It's a little tricky but with practice you can get a feel for it.

Might be better to opt for iGDR, iGDR (again time it later than you think you need to) and then 2a+b. Better position/advantage afterwards, not a huge difference in damage.

I won today without much iGDR at all though, so wtf do I know lol. I just blew meter on the 4B EX because I was fucking up, and shortening all my combos. Maybe someday I'll be pro at pushing buttons. -_-

usually i do iGDR~iGDR~2a+b. the main reason i don't go for that third one is because the stupid camera switches sides on me like half the time, so i have to guess which way to iGDR. 2a+b always works.

I'm looking for a Cervantes main on XBL that wouldn't mind fighting an extra-psychotic Tira main. Anyone interested?

Hates, I saw a few of your matches from NCR. I'm curious as to why you switched to Nightmare, if you feel it's something Cervy lacks in certain matchups, or did you just want to show them something else?

Also how have you been using your meter with him primarily? I mostly burned mine on 4B EX and impacts this past weekend.

4b BE

a+g BE

b+g CE CE

i only use meter for those moves, unless i get a chance for a 3b CE ringout or wallsplat.

Still not sold on A+G EX. You can force them to stand off a normal A grab, since 3B hits if they don't. So that handles the oki situation. It's 15 damage extra for that half bar, I just feel like that's more 4B EXs he could be throwing out, or a GI attempt that potentially leads to big damage.

I'd love to hear thoughts from people who feel A+G EX is a big part of their game, and why they feel that way. Right now I'm not seeing it as worth the meter.
