Should Video Game Characters Age??

Game characters like many works of fiction can be timeless and stand the test of time despite how many years have passed. Thing is in some game series now were seeing the characters age and become older and in some cases actually die from such and become replaced by a newer set of characters. How do you as gamers feel about this?
