Everything revolves around notations so it's best you learn them.

Here's something to help you... Notations for SCIV on the ps3 controller. For Buttons Triangle = B, Circle = K, Square= A, X = G. For the Directional buttons Forward= 6, Back = 4, Up= 8, Down = 2, Forward+Down = 3, Forward+Up= 9, Down+Back= 1, Down+Up = 7, 5= Neutral or the little space in between the buttons.

You want to know which moves are negative or positive so youll know if u can attack after it or not. Some moves leave you at a huge disadvantage if you attack and your opponent blocks it, which means you don't want to attack after it because they will punish you for a lot of damage.
