Nothing makes it stand out anymore. It used to have cool, fun, and interesting mechanics. Now it's just a decent fighter that borrows from too many other fighters (Tekken and Street Fighter mainly).

I just googled VC. I can see how that might have some sort of effect in tournaments but when you're just playing the game with mates it makes no change. Ignorance is bliss right?

Yeah I'm not a tournament player, I don't play the game at the highest possible level so I don't know of these issues. How can the GI be detrimental to a fight? You also mention only being able to get a low kick off the GI, that may be the case in the upper echelons of the elite but us normies...

Such as? Guard impacts have always has the ability to change the flow of a fight in an instant allowing you to go from defensive to offensive in a flash. More than that they were what set Soul Calibur apart from the other beat em ups. Without them Soul Calibur is just another bland fighting...

As a stand alone fighting game I'd give it 7.5 out of 10. As a Soul Calibur game I'd give it 3 out of 10 because they've changed/removed so much of what made the Soul games so much fun.
