They definitely are trying to make it more stylized than SCIV and SCV, the art style, animation, and effects are totally different than previous games. They're leaning more towards a modern JRPG look. Also the hair is modeled totally differently than older SC games, IV and V used layered...

I think that's the point, it's not supposed to look real. It's stylized.
