MikonX's SCV Created Characters

MikonX

[08] Mercenary
Introduction
In this thread you'll find my created characters. All but two are originals, coming from two of my fictional worlds.

What you will find here - (mostly) original characters with clean designs and coherent color schemes, high-resolution images upon click-through, spoilers galore for Final Fantasy VII and Phantasy Star 4.
What you will not find - superheroes, anime or video game characters (except two, one of which you've likely not seen in SCV before), or crazy pattern/sticker/accessory item use.
What I would like to see - plenty of commentary and criticism, positive or negative.

Getting it out of the way...
Here's my take on Jin Kazama, just to give the Devil Jin moveset a character:

Now, on to business....

Days Forgotten Characters

"Days Forgotten" is a fan-fiction I started way back in the mid-90s, an off-shoot of my AOL chatroom RPing days. It's set in both the worlds of Phantasy Star 4 and Final Fantasy VII, but I'm hesitant to call it a "crossover." The overall story is broken down in to Chronicles, each one telling its own part of the overall story. Each Chronicle is self-contained in one of the two game worlds, with the only things traversing between the two being my original characters. For the FF7 die-hards out there, note that the canon of my stories largely ignores the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII works; partially because I began it before it existed and partially because I hate what it does to the canon. Note that I consider the FF7 game world to be Earth, and is referred to as such throughout these character descriptions. Characters will be presented in the order they appear in the story.

Quin Anthrolomus (Cervantes Style)
He is the protagonist of the first few Chronicles in the story. When we first meet him in Chronicle I, the endgame events of FF7 have just concluded. Quin had been a lifelong Shinra employee, having served time in SOLDIER, the TURKs, and finally the Department of Science & Research. After the game, Shinra is in ruins (but not dead), and Quin aspires to rebuild the corporation that Rufus lost. He later travels to Algo, becomes involved with Alys Brangwin a few years before the events of PS4, and bares a child - Mikon. He returns to Earth shortly after Mikon's birth, bringing the child with him. Quin's Player 2 outfit reflects his normal traveling attire while in Algo. His Player 1 outfit is what we might see him in (as close as could be created in SCV) after Mikon has grown up, while on Earth.

quin-2p-jpg.15478
quin-1p-jpg.15477

Alexa (Siegfired Style)
She is a SOLDIER 1st Class who is initially loyal to Rufus after Meteorfall, but later joins Quin's ranks. Her 1P is her SOLDIER combat gear, her 2P is everyday street wear, and her 3P is formal attire.
alexa-1p-jpg.15480
alexa-2p-jpg.15481
alexa-3p-jpg.15482

Nash Tryst (Siegfried style)
Another SOLDIER 1st Class, loyal to Quin from the beginning. He has Jenova-project treatments done voluntarily, wishing to become more powerful than Sephiroth. Original character idea by Joseph S. Zurschmeide. His 1P outfit is his normal garb, his 2P is a training outfit.

nash-1p-jpg.15483
nash-2p-jpg.15484

Mikon Anthrolomus (Mitsurugi style)
Quin's aforementioned son, he becomes the protagonist for the latter half of the Chronicles. After learning of his origins, he travels to Algo to find his mother other to find that nearly 20 years have passed since the events of PS4 and his mother is dead. He meets up with Rune and several other characters along the way, eventually falling in love with Kyra Tierney. During their relationship, he travels the system, and meets Lita Valner in passing. His 2P outfit is how he might look while traversing Algo, in Esper disciple garb. His 1P outfit is how he would typically dress after many more events (to be described) occur.

mikon-2p-jpg.15485
mikon-1p-jpg.15486

Kyra Tierney (Leixia style)
Here is the only other non-original character you'll likely find in this thread - Kyra Tierney from PS4. As there is no bladed-boomerang style in the game, I felt Leixia's fits her personality and athleticism the best. Her 1P outfit is a recreation of her attire from PS4; her 2P outfit is what she might look like if she stopped being a tomboy for one night and got dressed up for a formal affair.

kyra-1p-jpg.15487
kyra-2p-jpg.15488

Lita Valner (Xiba Style)
Lita's role in the story doesn't really come in until much later, but Mikon first meets her while traveling Algo with Kyra. Her 1P is her formal attire (how I first envisioned her), her 2P is a casual/training outfit, and her 3P is sleepwear or just kinda fanservice.

lita-1p-jpg.15489
lita-2p-jpg.15490
lita-3p-jpg.15491

Lascious Almier (ZWEI style)
A former disciple of Zio and servant of Dark Force, he appears in Chronicle IV and does battle with the heroes. Eventually, he kills Kyra. His 1P is his routine evil garb, his 2P is his final combat-ready attire.

lascious-1p-jpg.15492
lascious-2p-jpg.15493

Hadneon Mikon (Nightmare style)
After Kyra's death, Mikon goes a little nuts and recluses himself on Rykros. While there, he encounters Re-Faze, the spirit guardian of the forbidden Megid technique. He tests him much the same way he tested Chaz Ashley so many years ago - with an apparation of a dear one he has lost. Mikon goes even more nuts, and retrieves an evil sword called Hadneon (the counterpart to the Elysdeon), and goes on a bit of a killing spree, finding himself back on Earth eventually. The red marks on his arms are a side effect of the powers of the sword. His 1P outfit is in full Hadneon armor, his 2P is a lighter getup.

(Continuing where I left off)

Sufyaire (Ivy Style)
Eventually Mikon comes back to sanity and enters what I call his "apathetic period," where he wanders Earth. He comes across Sufyaire, a mysterious woman and fellow wandering soul, who he briefly becomes involved with and helps bring him back to normal. Original character idea courtesy of Amelia Bell nee Miller. Her 1P is her typicall attire, while her 2P is her traveling garb that Mikon initially meets her in.

sufyaire-1p-jpg.15503
sufyaire-2p-jpg.15504

(Evil) Tira Anthrolomus (Raphael style)
Some time after Mikon's return to sanity, Lita finds him with a message from Kyra's will - use my genetic material and birth a child between us. From this comes Tira, who shortly after birth is kidnapped by (a Bad Guy whose name I haven't thought of yet), who implants her with nanotechnology and growth-accellerates her to physically 19 years old. BG has control over her, and uses her to lure Mikon and friends to his base where they do battle. The green markings on her body are the after-effects of the nano-tech enhancements. Her 1P is the outfit they battle her in; her 2P is a prototype outfit she wears during training under BG. (On an amusing side note, I created this character circa 2001, long before the Tira of Soul Calibur fame was anywhere on the map).

evil-tira-1p-jpg.15505
evil-tira-2p-jpg.15506

(Restored) Tira Anthrolomus (Mitsurugi style)
After the battle, Tira is broken from BG's control, and is raised and trained by Mikon and Lita. She is especially self-conscious about the markings leftover from the nano-tech, and doesn't like to expose them. Her 1P is a typical outfit, her 2P is a more casual getup, and her 3P is some fancy formalwear.

Annnnd......

That about does it for Days Forgotten characters. Yeah, I know they don't mesh into the SC canon at all. Yeah, I know the overall plot can be quite contrived. No, there's virtually nothing actually written of this epic, just charts and notes of ideas for the overall story.

OOOPS, missed one

Trel Danvers (Astaroth Style)
A master Esper and defactor big brother to Kyra, he mentors Mikon while he's studying at the mansion. Only one outfit; let's call him a bonus character.

trel-jpg.15585

Coming eventually (making screencaps and these compiled images is a PITA): a whole slew of characters from a completely separate (and 100% original, not fan-fiction) fictional world.

Ugh...had about half of the character bios typed up for this next set, and Firefox crashed on me. Forgive me if the descriptions now seen are terse. Anyway...

Mufarian Empire characters
Completely original fictional world here. Set on the distant planet of Telorahm several thousands of years in the future, its inhabitants are descended from Earth humans, who actually go going with space exploration in the 2100s. Two main countries are focused on in the story, the Kingdom of Setria and the Mufarian Empire. They're at war. The atmosphere is what I like to call "mule-punk"; there's some advanced technology still around but for the most part it's medieval times.

Lukas Bazworth (Hilde style)
An ordinary citizen of Setria, and childhood friend of Samina and Bevolian. He's had a thing for Samina for a while but is quite incapable of expressing himself. Mentored in combat by Gregor, he makes a living as a shopkeeper. When he learns of Samina's heritage, he joins the royal guard and becomes a knight. 1P outfit is general around-town, 2P is as a Knight.

lukas-1p-jpg.15606
lukas-2p-jpg.15607

Samina Camil (Natsu style)
She's spunky, athletic, and constantly flirtatious with Lukas but he doesn't always recognize it. She's a school teacher until she discovers that she's actually a princess. Also mentored by Gregor. 1P is combat ready, 2P is teacher garb, 3P is princessy (sorry about the lack of a close up shot for the 3P).

samina-1p-jpg.15608
samina-2p-jpg.15609
samina-3p-jpg.15610

Bevolian Reharl (Siegfried style)
The third of the childhood friends, he is abducted by the Empire and informed that he is the true heir to the throne. He turns his back on Setria and inevitably fights his former friends. 1P is as a Baron Knight, 2P is before he is converted.

King Andronia te Mufaria (Patroklos style)
Not much to say here, he's the King of the Mufarian Empire. 1P is royal garb, 2P is ready for battle (even in his 60s).

Princess Lynnee te Mufaria (Pyrrha style)
Daughter of Andronia, she does her best to keep up appearances but she has a wild side that daddy knows nothing about. Upon first meeting Samina, she becomes quite love-struck. 1P is princessy, 2P is a more everyday royal affiar, 3P is beachwear/fanservice to show off her ink.

(Rebellious) Lynnee te Mufaria (Tira style)
Eventually Lynnee goes all out against her father and joins up with Lukas and company, with a change in attire, attitude, hairstyle, and technique to go with it. 1P is typical streetwear, 2P is for infiltrating the castle.

Old Man Gregor Stumes (Kilik style)
1500 years old or so, he was a knight back the day. Master of numerous forms of combat, he trains and mentors Lukas and Samina when the stumble upon him while searching for Bevolian. He's become mostly a hermit now, hiding out from the Empire. 1P is as a hermit, 2P is as a knight.

Trent Vancem (Viola style)
Lord of the floating-in-the-sky Wahallen Castle (somewhat of an independent entity from the two nations), he is 500+ years old and quite the magician. I found that the dangling chains are the only thing that can closely approximate Viola's physical weapons other than actual claws. 1P is full battle gear, 2P is trying to blend in.

Trent Vancem[/U] - 1P outfit]

Kathryn Annely (Pyrrha Omega style)
A warrior servant of Trent, and also his lover. 1P is combat, 2P is around the castle.

And that's it for ME characters. One more to go for now.

And finally, one character I created ages ago for some online chat-room roleplaying business. Don't recall much about her personality, but I still had the notes for her appearance. Really just wanted another Xiba-style character and remembered that Sayana Onwakaze existed and used a staff.

sayana-jpg.15626

Anyway, comments and criticism more than welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Hey, saw your thread over on GameFAQS. Gotta agree with everything said over there: A lot of these characters are very plain, boring, and just don't catch my attention enough to look at all of them. There is a major lack of stickers and items. Kathryn 1P looks kinda cool but it's still a bunch of default items splashed with a single color. And yeah, eyebrows need to be darker than the actual hair... you can "color all hair" but then lower the eyebrow color a few numbers down.

You mentioned that these are mostly from old designs you've had...well, so are a lot of my OCs. I used to draw comics in high school and college, but you still need to use stickers and/or items to spruce things up. Patterns and solid colors alone are not that interesting.

Your use of stickers looks very basic, literally slapping them on to the middle of a garment. Think of them as tools to get a different look, creating trims around edges, special effects like blood, feathers, intentionally warping stickers, etc.

Items can be and should be used on whenever possible. Good creators always wish we could have more slots to put special items, so not using ANY is just wasted potential. Items don't have to be used as-is; turtle shells can be used as armor, halos as glowing eyes, horns as fangs, the list goes on.

I can specifically judge Jin as there's hundreds of them out there (another one of those "oh, that again" creations), and they are typically better than yours. His hair and face look way off, not sure why you gave him a belt instead of a sash, uninspired attempt at his gloves, etc.

Read Le Bello's tips & tricks thread.

I'll try to to be too harsh... Your characters are very uninspired, not unique enough, and sometimes just plain bizarre nonsense. For most of them you can't even tell what they are, they're just "warriors", people with weapons, that's it. And the color choices also make them even less appealing.

Try to make your characters express something. For example, give them some archetype (Viking, thief, etc). Inspire them on cultures, famous characters, hell even anime works. But don't just slap pieces together. Also, try to use soft colors that mesh well together.

Alexa 1P: Too many patterns. Le Bello suggests removing, or at least toning down the flowers on the legs. Though that hardly seems very combat-appropriate, even for a SOLDIER.

Her 2P reminds me of Genesis. Way too much.

The green on the sword is WAY too bright, distracting, and doesn't match any of her outfits. It ruins an otherwise promising start.

I like the eyepatch/scar, it's overdone, but you've done it well, especially with having the hair cover that same blind eye.

She seems like she could be fashionable, but is being let down by some poor choices.

Nash 1P:
Sephiroth.

His 2P doesn't work. I have nothing more to say here.

Lita's 1P is (so far) my favourite design. Simple, sleek, elegant. It suggests freedom of movement without being nude, it's stylish without being over the top. Perfect.

Her 'sleepwear' looks more formal then Alexa's formal wear. And would actually make a nice, if not a tad slutty, wedding dress.

Generic evil guy is generic, bar his 2P, which is actually quite nice. Desaturise the red a little though, it's all a little bit bright.

Le Bello LOVES Sufyaire's 1P. It's got the right amount of detail, and the colouring is perfectly down. The face make-up makes her stand out, and she gives off that spellcaster impression, without it beinf too obvious.

However her 2P design reminds Le Bello of The Muppets.

Restored Tira:

BRIGHT COLOURS. CLASHING PATTERNS. LE BELLO'S EYES HURT!

The 2P is better. If not a little bit confusing. In her 1P she gives off a mature style, with her long coat and sensible (but eye-jarring) leg wear.

Yet her 2P resembles a schoolgirl.

And her 3P looks like a rather gifted drag queen. Probably the blue hair with the straight-cut fringe though. Or the pattern on the dress.

Presumably Trel Danvers is the spirit of the Jolly Green Giant?

Lukas is great. The colours aren't OVERBEARINGLY BRIGHT, the clothing works, and the two designs have synergy between them, making his character more solid.

Samina's 3P looks like she's wearing a dress made from curtains. I suggest playing around with the pattern size and colouring.

Her 2P DOES look very teachery, nice and mature without being old, good job.

Her 1P is back to that reliabe clashing pattern eyesore style your characters seem to deploy.

I like Bevolian Judge Cid Reharl.
I don't like the red on his breastplate - Take it down a few levels and it'll look like it's inlaid, as well as realistic. At the moment it looks like off-pink plasticine.

Red buttons on his 2P are just silly. There's no other words in Le Bello's luciously large vocabulary. Make them silver, or bronze.

King.. Muffin.
Is very mishmashed. He looks like Robin Williams fell into a Disney-inspired wardrobe.
I can see how you've gone for the royal look, but the purple, red and gold mix is too rich for such a basic design. The red should be the primary colour, with the purple playing secondary, or even tertiary to the gold. Just a thought.

The 2P is better, though desaturise the gold a couple of levels. There's bright, then there's ugly.

Princess Muffin is related to Tira then?

Rebel Muffinman's 1P actually works... At a rave. Those pants need leaving behind.

Gregor is a little generic, but it's very refreshing after all your other characters.

If Trent isn't some kind of dark magical priesty science guy, I'd be VERY surprised. Both his designs have such a flavour to them, and it really seems to suit.

(You can use the helmet adornment accesories to create a claw. It's easy enough.)

Kathryn goes from respectably slutty-looking independent appearing dark knight-esque superbadass mode, to teenage whorebag mode in a simple spoiler click. The 2P needs drastic work.

Sayana is forgettable.

Le Bello summarises:

TOO MANY PATTERNS.
TOO BRIGHT.
TOO UNINSPIRED.
CHARACTERS LOSE PERSONALITY BETWEEN OUTFITS.
NOT ENOUGH INDIVIDUALITY.

You seem to be slapping bits together and not really taking the time to think about the character, and create a design that suits them.

For example, you can say "Arther is a knight. I'll give him armour!" but that's dull.

How about: "Arther is a knight that has travelled a long way for a long time. He's fought many hard battles and had a difficult journey. His armour shall show this by being scarred, rusted or even blood-stained."

Instantly, you get a much richer, deeper and far more believable character. Le Bello thinks the gritty realism adds an edge that would make the design more engaging. And the effects described above can be done with a simple pattern and some subtle effects.

Le Bello's first suggestion is to lurk around the other threads; Gatsu, Vilarcane, Gabedamian and rdmunhoz (or whateverit is) have particularily strong CaS characters that could inspire you and show you new things.

On top of that, there are threads choc-full of tips and tricks to squeeze that whole load more out of the CaS Mode. Le Bello is above shameless self-promotion, but as Lord Draco suggested, visit my thread and see a lot of tricks and tips contributed by the various members of the forums. You'll only get better from it!

Best of luck, =|;}
