NewPlayer-Looking for character

ProtectorFaith

[08] Mercenary
Hello. I bought this game at GameStop a few weeks ago because I was bored and figured I could have some lols with the character creator, and didnt expect much more out of the game. I played SCIV for a bit before purchasing V but never really got into it. One day i decided to try out the online and found someone near my skill level (0). I really enjoyed it and started playing more characters and experimenting. I'm decent with many characters but good with none. I really want to learn one character that fits my playstyle. I refuse to play either xiba or patrokalos because both the characters annoy me.

I'm not a very offensive player (is this bad)I like to try and bait attacks and punish them. I often find myself just falling into block-counter high/mid pattern because i don't know a character with"good lows", preferably one that can get decent damage on them.

I know it's late in the game and many people are going to be much better than me but I really want to be able to put up a decent fight/feel comfortable with a character.

Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

I terms of defensive whiff punishes and a character that isn't super offensive. I think of Nightmare since he is a great whiff punish and spacing character. People understand to never whiff vs him since he can punish from a far distance away. Generally need to make good reads against players up close also. Pyrrha would be THE whiff punish character and just normal punish character in the game imo. Her stab punishes a long list of moves. Since she has a ton of great moves and frames, she doesn't need to play defensive though. Unlike characters like Siegfried, Nightmare, or Astaroth where a lot more blocking is necessary. Hope that helps.

How vast is the difference betweenPyrrha and Pyrrha omega? Just a slight preference for omega's general character but if regular Pyrrha is all around better i'll use her. I use nightmare regularly now but I don't know how to properly step and stop blocking when people start stringing attacks on me. I get beat out by button mashers when using nightmare quite a bit so I'd like a faster character, at least for now.

Pyrrha Omega is slower than normal Pyrrha and for the most part a worse character imo. She does have certain tools that are pretty nice though and a few matchups I can see her doing better in. As for Nightmare advice, if people get spammy on you. Block one of their moves and do 6k, if they are mashing it will hit them in the face and they will go flying. Also try working in a+b into your arsenal, it will absorb weak attacks and counter attack the opponent. 1k, 3k, 66k, are all good moves against people trying to attack too much also. The thing about Nightmare is if someone is mashing or playing dumb. You should be able to out space them with moves like 22aa, 3aa, 6a, and other moves. Also if someone is mashy, 33b into grimstride A should work fairly well on them. And don't forget about your CE, that was made to kill people attacking recklessly. Another move to pay attention to is 66b, if you can knock someone down and force them to block it. It gives Nightmare some frames allowing him to get some respect against faster characters.

That Nightmare CE is the only reason I beat legendary souls haha, it's great against mashers online but I have problems trying to hit it against better players. It's really hard when people are counter defensive against me when i'm using Nightmare because his attacks all seem so straight forward and punishable. Thank you for the nightmare advice, I'll try to use more of his k moves. Will also be giving Pyrrha a spin in training mode tomorrow!

One advice for his CE, look out for BE moves where the second hit has to come out. Other moves are slow enough you can sight see the move and make them hit your CE. Like charge moves and slow moves of that nature. Also against characters that have a lot of strings like maxi, it's usually easy to throw your CE in the middle of the string and nail them with it. Same goes for characters that have stances, sometimes they'll go in stance and if you throw your CE out, there is pretty much nothing they can do. Other than that, its just about seeing how your opponents brain works and predicting when he's going to attack.

I would try out siegfried. Good beginner character and kind of describes what you want to do. If you end up not liking a character, just remember you don't have to play as them ever again.

One of my favorites is Patroklos. Pretty fluid attacks and he is a decent character.
Another one I would recommend, is Cervantes. He is an aggressive character but he is not to hard of a character to learn.
If you are looking for a challenge, Alpha Patroklos or Maxi is the way to go. A Pat due to his JF attacks and his 2 stances, one that involves his JF Twister (214 3aB I think), and Maxi since he has a numerous amount of stances to memorize.

Welcome to 8wayrun!

As Party Wolf said, Siegfried is a good beginner's character due to his simplicity and good damage. Mitsurugi is similar in these aspects also, it might be wise to check him out as well.

Welcome to 8WR.
If you've completed Legendary Souls mode, I can suggest learning Algol (even as a secondary). If you simplify his movepool & combos he can be an easy character to start out with, however he has some more advanced setups should you choose to get more serious with the game in the future. Here is a quick help list to start you off:
  • Good Lows: (2K/ 1K >quick pokes)(11K >spacing poke)(2B+K or 2B+KB >heavy low)
  • Good Verticals: (BB/ 6B+K/ 66B/ 1B/ 44B/ 22B)
  • Good Horizontals: (AA/ 66A/ 4A/ 22A)
  • Pressure: (Throws*Lows >get past guard)(6BBB >for the bubble)(66B/22B >pressure on block)
  • Easy Punishment: (Block anything punishable > punish with 4BA, if it doesn't work try AA)
Easy Combos: (normal hit)
  • 1A, 2K (close range only)
  • 4BA, (delay) 1A
  • FC 8B, 2B
  • WR B, 66B
  • any Bubble that causes a knockdown, 1A (range dependent)
  • BT A+B, BT 2K
  • 4B+K ("attack throw" against backstep), 2A+B, 66B
  • 66B, 2B
  • 22B, 2A+B, 66B
  • 44B, 66B+K
  • RUN K, 2B
  • QI B, 2B
  • 4BA, (near wall or edge, delay) 3BB
  • 66B, (near wall or edge) 3BB
  • RUN K, (near wall or edge) 3BB
  • QI B, (near wall or edge) 3BB
Easy Combos: (counter hit)
  • CH 6AAB, BT A+B
  • CH 1B, 2A+B, 66B
Easy Combos: (edge*meter combos)
  • 3B BE, QI B, 2B
  • 3B BE, QI B, (near wall or edge) 3BB
  • FC 8B BE, 1A (not actually a combo but a good enough tech trap anyway)
  • 66B BE, 4BA
  • Critical Edge (first part), 4BA, (delay) 1A
If there's anything else you'd like to know feel free to PM on here, if you'd like to talk I'm on XBL but again PM me on here first. Good Luck with whatever character you decide to pick.

Oh, nice. Just asking because he sort of fits your description (except for good lows). But he's quite hard to use.
That last part can't be understated though, particularly for a beginner.

I would say Pyrrha is probably in line with what Protector is looking for, though I may have a bias towards thinking of that as an Alexandra family job.

Welcome! Play Zwei because men play Zwei! But no lol the suggestions people had above were very good and im going to agree with the Algol post.

If you need any help around here feel free to throw a pm my way.
