Online connection issues

Hi there,

I've been trying out the online part of SCV. Unfortunately it seems something works very bad and I keep on losing the connection.Out of about 4-5 fights, I only managed to go fight 1 to the end...

Does anyone have any idea if you can do something to improve upon the issues? Is it something with the network technology in the game, or is something wrong with my connection? I play on the PS3.

Now I don't know exactly where the players I played against resided, but I think it was Netherlands, France and Germany. I'm situated in Denmark myself, so that's a distance of about 1000-1500 km I guess. If I test out my connection with speedtest, I seem to get ping times to french servers about 70ms, and 0% packet loss. Isn't that good enough for the game? Should I only play against people that are closer? (it seems like there's not much of a community for the game in Denmark/Scandinavia...). I also tried searching for ranked matches of 4 bars or better quality, but then I get nothing.

It's a bit of shame, because really there's not much in the game without the online part. To me at least.

(and sorry to the people in the room last night that kept on trying to fight me, when I lost the connection)

Kind Regards,

Moved to the online forum.

Have you checked your NAT type? Sometimes that can keep you from connecting to people. There are other things that could be causing the issue but I would suggest starting with that.

Okay, thanks for your reply. I tried connecting the PS3 directly to my modem, not using any router or anything. It would then report NAT type 1 (which from what I read around the net should be 'good and open'), but I still got disconnected a lot.

You say there are other things as well, any idea? I know there are other threads for connection problems, but couldn't find a clear solution that I could try. Maybe I missed it.

Hi and thanks for the summary.

Here's my findings.

As mentioned I played one night with the PS3 directly connected to the modem, and had huge problems. Got disconnected all the time and so on. (this is NAT1).

Since I need to have a router installed it's not really an option to always have the PS3 directly to the modem, so I reinstalled the router in between.

Now I set the PS3 for static IP, opened ports (no DMZ though). Also disabled Media Sharing (this is now NAT 2). Last 5-8 fights I've had has been without any problems. I do not really understand this though, because why should this be any better than having the PS3 directly on the modem? Maybe except for the Media Sharing if that's key...??

Tried fiddling with MTU as stated by the articles linked to, but the MTU setting I found using the ping example wouldn't work with the PS3. No matter if I added 28 bytes for IP/ICMP headers or not. Only Automatic MTU settings seem to work. But so far I'm seeing a quite good connection.

Since many people in the thread reports that their problems seem random, it's hard to say if that's what I'm experiencing or not. Time will tell.

Only problem now is that I'm still unable to find ranked matchings. But at least I can play in the Paris arena, which has a lot of activity.

Thanks for your help :-)

UPDATE: In case anyone is interested, the above changes seems to have more or less fixed my problems. I'm still getting disconnected once in a while, but most fights that I can connect to I manage to complete (loose ;-)). MTU is still set to auto.
