Questions About Streaming

Okay, I've thinking about streaming or possibly finding someone who's been wanting to stream stuff around the Chicago area (outside of DevilDigimon as he isn't really in the area). I just have a couple of questions about it (mostly monetary and technical to find out if the endeavor would be worth it or even feasible).

Of course, my first question has to do with...what type of equipment and resources do you need? I mean, I know some of it may be a given, but I often hear people who stream talking about how it's expensive, so I really do need to know everything from recording equipment to possibly upkeep costs.

Secondly, with upkeep and actually streaming, is there any type of knowledge required? Keep in mind, I'm not saying like big tournament type deals; I'm pretty much just talking about the Chicago SC players' get togethers.

Looking back on it, those are really the only two questions I can think of, but I'm sure more will come as those questions are answered (If they are answered). Thank you.

I don't really know anything about it but I've been wanting to stream/be a part of a stream for a while. If you get the answers you need I'll gladly help out with whatever I can just send me a message about it.

I'm glad you asked this question LP because I've been wondering the same thing for a while now. I always see Philly and NJ stream stuff and wished I had the know how to do it so NorCal could also stream some matches. Even though NorCal is pretty dead now lol....

I can only speak for myself since there are probably better ways to do this.

What I do, Is use TV tuner to capture a signal from TV.
Then you ususally get a program that comes with the TVtuner or just download it, that let you see what's being captured on your PC/notebook. (I use Avermedia TV tuner, so my program is Aver TV)

Register at any site for stream, there are instructions normally how to go from there.
I reg'd at JustinTV, followed their instructions and DL a program that let you stream picture from your PC to JustinTV - Dyyno.

So once again a list of stuff
- TV tuner
- TVtuner Program that streams captured content to your PC
- JustinTV account
- Dyyno.

1) Run the TVtuner program - make sure the picture is displayed correctly.
2) Run Dyyno - log in
3) Drag and Drop Dyyno icon to TV tuner program screen.

Enjoy the stream.

Take note that though JustinTV is free, Dyyno has a limit of free streams set to 10. After that you'll need to pay to subcribe or get another account.

So can I stream using my Happauge HD PVR? It shows a live feed on my computer so Im thinking theres some way to make it work... Itd be sweet to stream some Gears of War 3 beta this weekend.

A while back I bought a MPEG2 encoder that hooked to vid cables and USB (it even has it's own processor so it wouldn't use my computer's).
The only prob is that the formats it streams aren't compatible with ustream.
