Shameless Introduction

[08] Mercenary
I've been lurking on 8WayRun for a few months now, and I finally decided to register yesterday. I partially blame social awkwardness. But I definitely love the personality on this board. =P

I got into the Soul Calibur series with IV, and I got V shortly after its release. I also vaguely remember playing II many years ago. What mostly got me into the series was the CaS feature, as I'm a total sucker for character creators of any kind, although there are a few characters I would actually like to learn (Mitsurugi, Pyrrha, Patroklos, and Xianghua/Leixia). My only problem is that I tend to get a little overwhelmed and intimidated even thinking of trying to remember dozens of different inputs.

Kinda wish I had more to say, but I'm completely unsure on what else to add here... Haha.

Welcome to the forums. Hope you have a dandy time posting/lurking your mind away. What character do you mostly play as?

You may want to focus on Mitsurugi for awhile if you feel remembering all the inputs of movelists is a bit of a challenge. He isn't big on combos compared to a lot of characters and tends to let the damage of individual attacks do most of the work. Something you'll want to keep in mind though is that it's a good idea to try and beat on a fallen foe; they can't easily counter your attacks laying on the ground and Mitsurugi is pretty decent at doing so too.

Pyrrha is also a great option for starting out since she's pretty versatile(she can do more or less anything everyone else can do though not necessarily as well) and has good punish ability.

Once you feel like you've gotten a grasp on the basics, it's probably time to start memorizing the most basic bits about your characters' frame data from the various SAs around here: just focus on whether an attack is positive, negative, or neutral on hit/block/miss and that'll be enough to further strengthen your game against most foes. Learning combos is good too :)

And on less robotic responses, where you from man? You play online? What console? Are you afraid?* Planning on contributing to the offline scene?

*Tira's GS B+K line because I felt like it.

Thank you, everyone, for both the greetings and the advice. I'll definitely start with Mitsu or Pyrrha and work from there.. hopefully I can manage to memorize some of these things!

And I knew I was forgetting a few other basic questions.. Haha. I'm from Louisiana. I have an Xbox360, though I'm not too big on online play. About contributing to the offline scene.. I'm a little unsure on that. And about being afraid.. only a little. =P

<3
you'll get better in time just try to focus on a non-very easy character by now, well that technique worked for me, I used to main sophitia but I really sucked at it so one day I decided to try setsuka (the hardest character in sc4) and I absolutely improved my gameplay! So if you want my opinion, pick pyrrha as your "easy" character and pick a hard one too, so you can taste both sides of the game

anyways XXXXXXXX and welcome :sc4sop1::sc4sop1::sc4sop1::sc4sop1::sc4sop1::sc4sop1::sc4sop1::sc4cas1:

Don't worry about it man, just do it all at your own pace. As long as you're making effort and at least a teensy bit of progress, it's all good!

XBL? Wonderful! XBL is solid...except for servers being down today xD

On the offline scene, see if there's any locals that are into the game on social media or the Lousiana offline thread here.

In response to Ixhizy's advice, that could come in handy but if the basics are difficult for you to get a hang of you may want to focus on characters that are easier to use(that "Ease of Use" stat on the select screen is reasonably accurate) and keep building on your fundamentals. There's no shame in using an "easy" character and using a "difficult" character doesn't make one better or worse, it's how much ass you kick and how much you enjoy playing the character that *REALLY* matters :)

And if someone tells you off because you're using Mitsurugi or whatnot? Ignore 'em because they're just an insecure, lazy scrub determined to not get any better and you'll just keep waltzing all over them as you get better. Stupid and lazy people are going to complain every time they lose no matter how they lose, so ignore them :)

lol well mitsurugi is broken in fact but I didn't say anything against him, he is free to pick whoever he wants, nightmare, patroklos, mitsurugi, viola, hilde, whatever! he will find the way to become stronger, I just find mitsu boring to use, pyrrha is more like a combo character and she is more versatile (the regular one/she's easier and noob-friendly) so i told him what I would pick for my main character, maybe because i've always liked the sword & shield stuff, i don't really know

and no, i didn't say that using a difficult character will make you a better player, it MAY improve the way you see the mechanics of the game or at least it did that to me, I use alpha patroklos for example but I prefer to play with pyrrha omega because she has the style i've always loved, no matter if she is difficult or hard to master :)

and yea i always read complains about my pyrrha omega saying that she's cheap or that she is annoying, well let me tell you, I AM ANNOYING because the way I use her is good and if they find a good player annoying then yea, they're right ^_^

Hi welcome. If you're having trouble remembering inputs then before bed run through all of them in your mind. For the ones you don't remember check them out in practice mode the next day. If you have any questions just ask or PM me. Check my sig for information on how to improve.

lol well mitsurugi is broken in fact
No, Mitsurugi is not broken. Please don't make these claims in the newbie zone.

Like I said, I love the personality on this board. xD

I'll be sure to ask any questions if I have any; I'm just glad that there are so many helpful and welcoming people on 8WayRun. I'm liking it here already. =P

He's going to realize it soon or later, lol.
I dont think he's broken, I just think far too many people use him (Nightmare is the broken one to me, and everyone with an unblockable critical edge (Astaroth))
Anyways, welcome! I was all intimidated by the big people when I first joined but everyone's cool and stuff. You may not agree with everyone here like me (coughSolocough) but we all get along more or less.
As for a good character to start on, I went straight to Patroklos in story mode. I hate him so much though, so then I switched to other characters. Pyrrha was a great choice for me (Since my main was sophitia). I recommend doing what I do and when you want to start a character, go through their whole movelist 3 times or so in training, and then go straight to offline versus with them (Computer on easy if its your first battle ever). Keep trying to use moves you can memorize, and then try ones you can't too. And if the movelist looks intimidating, try memorizing all the horizontal attacks, then all the vertical attacks, then all the edge attacks, so on so forth. Training mode is great for memorizing things and learning combos and the whole shizam.

Hey hey. I didn't start the talk about Mitsurugi, I didn't even mention him in my first post haha.
I dont think he's broken,
and in response many of his moves are way too unfair like 4B and 2KB, nightmare is not broken for me but everyone has his own point of view ^_^ lol

It's nice to meet you man. My only complaint about CAS would be this: The compatibility packs are eating all my hard drive space, hah. My advice on learning new characters would be to take your time and move at the pace that's right for you. If jumping into the pool is scary, then just sort of ease into it.

Well lets just agree that mitsurugi is a very good choice for beginners ^^
Very powerful and easy to learn/play.
