What ISP do you use? Which is best for online gaming?

So, we're contemplating switching from Cox internet to AT&T because we can maybe save some money. Is there a difference? Which is better for online gaming?

What do you all have and how do you like it?

I find it hard to believe that anything could be much worse than Cox, because I usually have a pretty bad connection to a lot of people. It's gotten slightly better since I set up the DMZ, but it's not perfect. Then again, I don't know how good it really should be, and how much of that is to blame on the ISP, if any.

I have made that exact same switch. I got tired of cox ripping me off every month. I used to have to super duper go fast internet from cox. aside from my billing issues, the internet speed was fantastic.

I switched to AT&T and set myself up with not the fastest they got, but a couple steps down from that. The difference in speed on my PC.....I dont see a difference. Buffering of videos is about the same and overall speed is great. Online gaming I could say that AT&T MIGHT be a tad bit slower (but also remember Im 2 steps down from having the fastest they got) but over all its really good and have no issues. Well at least no more than anyone else.

I for one LOVE AT&T. I got to go into a store, sit down with a dude and say "Look man, Im tired of my bills from cox getting slightly more and more every month. I want this this and this for my services and I want 1 fuckin price. No more no less. I dont care if its more than cox, I just want consistancy!" they guy said "No problem, your bill will be exactly $127 a month. You will get internet, home phone, and a DVR cable box in every room in your house. Any movies or on demand features you order will of course be extra charge." I shook the guys hand and told him to hook it up.

Not only did AT&T come out to my house and hook me up to the lines. But they TOTALLY re-vamped ALL the cabling in my house AT NO CHARGE, with a bad ass set up. I got full on wi-fi in my house for all my cell phones and shit, I got HD TV in ALL my rooms WITH DVR service. And the guy has been correct for over a year. My bill is EXACTLY what he said it was gonna be.

Fuck Cox. Your making the right decision.

My 1st wife has worked for cox for 15 years and hates it. She used to fill me in on all the stupid shit cox does. Cox is HORRIBLE at customer service. And when you call with a problem....they have a different solution with every different person you talk to. Then the person you are talking to has no clue about what you talked to with the previous person. I FUCKIN HATE COX!! no homo

Everyone on the google search I did seems to be saying ATT is better too. Probably we'll go with it. Maybe you won't be able to 2A me after getting hit with BB anymore. :P

Cox claims to have the fastest internet available in the US. That might be true but they are just a bunch of crooks. I was planning on upping my internet speed to see what its like. But my sudden decline in SCV play may not justify that.

I just did a speed test now that I'm home and I'm getting about 30 Mbps. That's pretty good, right? Apparently the bets ATT can offer in my area is like 6. So maybe I shouldn't change.

If Cox is anything like Time Warner then you're probably getting ripped off.
We pay for 30Mbps and last time I checked this piece of shit internet was only running at 19.7Mbps. :/

I have Verizon Fios and this shit is boss but EXPENSIVE. I have the triple play with Internet, Phone and TV so it may be less expensive if you don't get the premium package. Unfortunately it's not available everywhere but I highly recommend it if it's available in your area because I go for quality.

I pay for 50mbps and have a great connection with the majority of the people I play.

Well, I'm not sure. I did the top 2 Internet Speed tests on the Google search, and to the server closest my city, I got 31 Mbps down. (It should be good, since my house is the only one on the branch off the main cable line). Farther away, like California was worse, but still not even close to 6 like what att says they can offer. Maybe it's just my setup that gives me bad connections with people. I am usually connecting with wireless.

Wireless is definitely an issue. My boyfriend hard lined his PS3 for VF5 and it has improved the connection. The one downstairs works just fine because it's practically right next the the router.

I used to use wireless on my PS3 and it would be at 20/40% cause I was so far away from my router. If someone stood in font of the router it would DC me and if my PS3 was moved literally a millimetre to the left or right it would go down to 5%. Many rages and a house move later, all is good.

I had to solve this problem by putting my Xbox directly next to my modem. Main problem is my family gets upset that there are two TVs in one room now so I've bought a 50ft Ethernet cord so I can move everything to my room.

Download speed should be fine even at 6Mbps. Upload speed tends to be more important from what I've seen.

(Though now I say that, some net whizzard's probably going to have an ass cramp...)

I was told that too but I don't know how true it is. It makes sense though seeing as you are uploading your inputs to the server.

I also heard its better if your Ping is a low number like 6.

Ping's hard to get around since it's usually more of a distance issue. The upload speed as long as it's at or better than 1Mbps seems to be better for consistent match play.

That's what killed me on DSL at least. Download was ok, but the UL sucked.
