2012 EVO Lineup Announcement On 1/3

  • Moderator
On Wakeup SRK, it was announced that the lineup for EVO 2012 will be officially announced during a live broadcast of the show with Mr. Wizard on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 10PM Eastern/7PM Pacific. Along with the announcement, there will be questions taken from viewers that Mr. Wizard will answer, along with other details that will be provided about EVO 2012.

Is Soulcalibur V a lock to make it into the lineup? What about Street Fighter Versus Tekken? Does Mortal Kombat return for another year? Make your predictions in the comments and tune in on Tuesday night to find out.

Note: Keits mentioned to me that the live broadcast will probably be on his Twitch channel. If anything changes, I will update this section.

I really don't think gems are gonna be a big issue. I feel the publics reaction is vastly unwarranted. The only thing they have validity on is exclusives which may be an issue. But the concept is completely fine and is really dependent on what the perks are (if they come out stupid, sure go crazy...but people are flipping out at the concept which they shouldn't). The simple fact that it can make mirror matches have some level of diversity is a very appealing fact to me. Until SFxT comes out, we cant judge the competitive aspects of gems. People need to stop seeing innovations as casual appeal and realize they contain competitive potential by adding more depth through personalization of a character template.

I fully expect SFxT to show up simply on new factor and then we can judge from there.

Umvc3, sf4ae, scv (3d rep), gemxt (Tekken Rep, new game)

final game is toss between MK (proven but dying) KOF (Proving, but still low) BB (meh) Skullgirls (weaboos will weaboo)

MK9 's top players are still playing....don't be ignorant to the scene and there is a lot of people still playing the game as well. MK had the third biggest showing at EVO2K11. Only reason I can see it not being at EVO is if they decide that KOF is more worthy.

Evo is getting way too small to host all these freaking games. Even if SCV gets in. The fact that no game outside of Capcom's hits is guaranteed to have a spot bothers me greatly.

SCV stands a good chance being new. But how about next year when TTT2 hits or whatever other newer fighter? That's a lot of games to showcase. There's just not enough room to give light to all these games.

Something to think about. This formula is getting outdated real fast. The FGC either needs 2 EVOs a year, or some other competitor. Too many communities relaying on this one tournament to keep their games relevant.

I'm completely new to 8wayrun so I find all of this really interesting. You guys seem pretty sure that SCV will make it and that KOF and MK will have to fight it out for the last spot. Which is weird cuz the KOF guys think they're a shoe in and so does the MK community.
Either way this announcement is important for all three games (they happen to be my three favorites). Two years ago you wouldn't see MK and evo in the same sentence, KOF has never been to evo officially (evo's wikipedia page), and the soul team disbanded after the last game so if this one doesn't do well I don't see a SC6. I'm nervous.
Btw I believe last year's evo turn out went like this; ST about 1400 people, mvc3 about 1000, MK about 500, bb and T6 both about 200.

Depends on how many games are in the lineup this year.

5 Game Lineup

Guaranteed Games:
- AE 2012
- UMVC3
- SFxT
- SC5

Vying for the last spot (in order):
1. KoF13
2. Skullgirls
3. Mortal Kombat
4. BlazBlue
5. Tekken 6 (only because there will almost certainly be a TTT2 promotional tournament)

huh?

What guarantee is there for SCV getting in? Game won't be out by the time they've decided, they'd nothing to base their decision on. It'd be as big a risk as running SFxT.

True.

But EVO is sooooooooo boring.
Seeing the same ass games every yr.
Seeing the same ass combos every yr.
Seeing the same ass characters make it to finals every yr.
MK9 gave it a breath of fresh air. N now that shit dead.

I really hope EVO coordinators take that chance and accept SC5 into the lineup.
This site has 7,600 plus members. If we can get at least 1/4 of the members to come out and SUPPORT the game and events than that will go along way for SC.

And not just for EVO but for other SC majors as well... People need to stop typing BS on here and just come out and SUPPORT.

MK aint dead >_>

Besides of course your gonna see the same games because there are a lot of people playing and supporting those games....

Yeah, it's pretty sad that half the people in this thread haven't even shown their support for the SC community and are talking about Evo, but whateva. I guess, if you're going to do it, do it big, dawg.

Hmm I might actually be able to go to this one. I can't go to many of these events simply because of current living and job issues but I believe I might be able to get off for this (usually get the first two weeks of July off) and Las Vegas is close enough for me to visit. Now here's hoping SCV is there so I can support it.

what I think is likely for the lineup ;

1. SFxT: (the tekken representative...so many bob mirror matches = no T6 returning)
2. SF4 AE 2012: Guaranteed.
3. UMVC3:
4. Soul Calibur V:
5. BlazBlue Continuum Shift II Extend or KoF13

The problem I see with including SCV is that they are announcing the lineup this early before they see how games do. I'm going to hope that SCV is going to be included but they will be taking a gamble on whether it manages to pick up enough people to support it same with the other games. Either way we will know in a few days. here's hoping SCV makes it.

I was gonna go to devastation in 2011 but being in senior year of College with a full-time job kinda makes that difficult. I had midterms due that weekend for 6 classes and sad to say but school comes first.

It's not like EVO has too many games to showcase since not every fighting game has a healthy offline competitive scene. Plus I haven't heard of space being an issue at EVO for the past few years, unless you were there and can tell me otherwise.

MK was decided to be included in the lineup for EVO 2011 before it was released. Plus I am sure that they were able to get hands on with the game given Ed Boon's intent on wanting to see the game being played at EVO, so they aren't in a situation where they have nothing to base their decision off of.

As for SCV, given that it's a new game that alot of people are excited for and that Tekken 6 isn't being played as much competitively now that people are waiting for Tag 2 to drop, it's likely that it will replace it in the lineup. But we shall see on Tuesday.

As for SFxT, the only concern is the gem system, but there's no real inherent risk to running tournaments for the game since it's still SF at its core.

Have you been to EVO? Relax. And as long as SCV is a great game and gets the support that it needs, people will come out to support it.

I'm sure this will change when SCV drops. Plus who doesn't want to go to Vegas?

My prediction on the lineup:

AE 2012
UMVC3
SCV
MK
KOF XIII
BBCS: Extend

The gem system has me very iffy of SFxT and if it will be taken seriously as a competitive fighter. It's possible it can make the lineup if it takes the place of BB, KOF, or MK.

Wow, seriously? A lot of people thought that MK would flop. SCV sounds pretty safe now

Alot of people always say that ___ game is going to flop. But personally, I didn't think MK was going to flop because the new MK was taking elements from SF4 and applying them to MK.

Which was the ENTIRE purpose of my first Critical Edge article that everyone got all pissy about!

The entire purpose of it was to hand over the keys to eSports and destroy ourselves. What kind of Satanic man does that?
