Astaroth Q&A/Discussion Thread

The break away fences do present those problems sometimes. On the low walls though, 1BB throws the opponent over the wall while you stay in the ring (while goofily running into the wall).

Damn right it does, and it is also very anticlimactic.

It brings to mind Indiana Jones shooting the sword swinging guy, you know what I'm talking about. You're just like, "Oh, why didn't this hulking mass of muscle just pick up the tiny girl and throw her out of the ring in the first place?"

What do you think are the best followups after using Just Guard on the last hit of safe strings like mitsurugi AA (it is just an example)?

Astaroth's pressure? What tools were you using to pressure with?
44A, 44B, 1AA, 1AB, 22B, 66K, 66K BE (KDZ blew that one up hard)
66K, AB, BB6, 6AA, to try to escape pressure

pretty much any string would get JG'd. 44A was probably the best tool i had in the end. Instead of playing a throw mixup game like i had been, i ended up havin to go midrange more (which people have been saying is his best zone anyway), playing for guard breaks and the occasional counter hit off 6B. 6K got stepped so much i almost stopped using it altogether.

Is it me or is 22_88B's hitbox completely ass in this game? I've been sticking with 22_88AA after a quick step to punish because I've had 22_88B whiff far too many times on me.

Yeah I'm seeing that too. It seems like if you do it too early and they are still moving it tends to miss more, but if you do it late they can defend. It seems dependent on the move you step, like if they move forward more with the attack, they sail past you.

Yes, it's much worse. 22B BE has the regular "expected" tracking and/or hitbox.

What is this instant crouch bullrush thing I keep hearing people talk about, is it just the regular crouch bullrush and they call it that cuz its quicker or is it some fancy way of inputing it?

I haven't been following the Asta boards much, but I consider him my secondary, and just thought I'd mention that you can do the 28B+G grab from FC by just hitting 8B+G--which makes an easy JF even easier.

Maybe you already know this, but I figured I'd share in case you didn't. I'm thinking about training people to jump when I crouch and then grabbing them out of it for big numbers.

Why would anyone even consider jumping when you're crouched? Asta has no scary lows from crouch, but a very scary mid. Jumping in that situation would be completely foolish, unless you're fuzzy guarding, and in that case 28B+G wouldn't make you jump.

How do you cancel the 44B unblockable into the horizontal? I can cancel it with guard but can't figure out anything past that.

I've noticed that 4B(the headbutt) is a pretty nice follow up to to Astaroth's BB combo. A lot of players will block the second hit and then try to rush in and punish. Making this a useful poke at times. I'm not the best player so I could be wrong.

Also I'm a new player trying to master Astaroth. If any of you pros would like to help, then please add me on XBL.

I dunno, I don't really play Asta, it was just something I was playing around with in my head. Maybe there's no real use for it.

Cancel it late enough that Asta is in FC, then WR A. Least that's what I do; I'm obviously not the most informed person here.

So, Asta mains, does this actually work?

After Pyrrha's 236:B is blocked, you can punish with 4B, then get a mid/grab mixup. Command grab will get her AA before it's stuffed and 4B will stuff her 2A. She can backstep to avoid the 4B but the grab will get her.

Am I missing something?

i know a few other people have said this but i gotta be jumping on the badwagon of "asta is good but to win tourneys you're gonna need a top tier main".

throw or 4b just isint enough damage when yoshi can kill you dead in 2 CE's and cervy and natsu have mid screen 50%'s with 1 bar or less.
right now i'm looking at cervy.

Asta is good, but sadly in SC V many faster characters (Natsu, Maxi, Cervantes, Mitsu etc...) deal the same damage... that's pretty unfair to our beloved Golem.

I hope the next patch will tone down some characters damage output. And no, not Asta's plz :)

Not only do they do similar/more damage off of faster moves and easier setups but Astaroth is very prone to falling victim to Just Guard.

The characters I like to play are all like that though so whatever -HATERS GONNA HATE, I'm more than likely not going to be winning any tournies but I'll be damned if I don't have fun losing!
