[North Carolina] Let's make a scene

if ur gonna switch i recommend yoshi, raph, or natsu. they seem more your style and raph is already kinda like viola in that he pokes at ur life but i lean towards him because he eats away ur gaurd and does double what viola does plus his more than one of his throws ring out.

Yeah I mained Yoshi in 4, did great with him till the game fell off. I just wish I could do iMCF... always feel like I'm missing out on something when I play him lol

Raph, yeah I can see the comparison. He also has great range and damage now.

Actually I'm about to get on, you wanna play some matches?

I was really looking forward to Viola myself and after a few hours in training mode figured she really wasn't for me. Being a beginner in SC I needed to spend more time learning fundamentals and such. I've been watching her and it really is hard to pinpoint what would help Viola. If she got a damage boost I think she would be too good. But as it stands now almost any other character can do in one attack what her whole B&B does. I do look forward to seeing how far she goes though. Curious as to what your thoughts on this are.

I'll just quote what I said in the Viola forums since it about sums up how I feel:
Well it's not that Viola is particularly hard to execute. When I say I had to work harder I mean I had to hit them way more than they had to hit me, and generally make way less mistakes and way more correct choices in order to win.

Sure you can say "lets pick apart Natsu so it's easy for us Viola players" but at the highest level of play, every character is going to be picked apart. It's more about who's gameplan holds up and stays solid even when picked apart. A few people in my area have already started to learn how to fight Viola, and this is really starting to make the damage differential noticeable. Once people understand how to punish Viola, the ranges to fight her at, how to shut down her orb recall, and to just use tech crouch moves on her side step killers, her game is super limited. So then every hit starts to count, and that's where the damage hurts her the most. If people aren't getting hit by 3B, and aren't getting hit by throws, what does she have for mixup? Her lows are shit. She also has shit for pokes, her side step killing game is risky as hell since it's all mostly high or if not high then really slow and short ranged.

She just seems like a weak character on paper to me. If you're going to win at high levels with Viola then you're going to have to be an absolutely amazing player, and if that's true then you could have won with just about whoever you picked.

Gonna try to hold a small session here next weekend. Q, Will, Doug, Jon, Justin, any of you guys interested?
Interested, yes, though if it's on Saturday, then it would conflict with the EZ tourney in Fayetteville.

Jon, lol some pretty talented Viola (and Tira) player that I've never heard of just got 3rd at Winter Brawl. Though it definitely showed when he played against somebody that really knew the matchup, because he got absolutely destroyed in winner's finals.

I would be interested in a Wilmington gathering next Saturday. Hit me up via facebook or something and give me some more details.

Edit: If EZ is on Saturday. Could we do a gathering Friday night and then all roll out to EZ and wreck faces? :D

Jon: GGs online bro, after playin u i say definately go with natsu shes a BEAST!!! lol good stuff bro, is her ex throw A or B break?

Any videos up for that? I'm curious how he played.

But yeah I think you saw my points tonight in our Asta / Viola matches. The funniest shit is like... you doing A+B spaced well and I have to run up... block another one, run up a little more, then hopefully be able to attack. That range is pathetic >_<

What'd you and Brent think of the Xiba? He was doing pretty well but I dunno if that was more matchup inexperience then me doing work with the character lol

lol I agree, except Will was blowing my Natsu up pretty hard. Had to switch to Yoshi / Mitsu to put up much of a fight. That throw is an A break. Think it's a smaller window though.

Your Voldo is sick. I definitely need to fight you some more to figure out what's going on lol.

Actually, I'm pretty bad against Natsu. I was surprised to see you standing there. Natsu has such good tools to handle Leixia. Just keep moving and keep me from using all my TS & TC moves. Leixia can't punish AAB because it pushes her back way too far. Just about every standing move Natsu does stuffs 44B for some odd reason.

Also, I feel online is still pretty bad and I'd like to recommend everyone not to praise it as much so that newer players won't get the wrong idea. It's definitely better than SC4's or any iteration of Tekken online, but there's still delay even on a 5. I felt like I was trying to salsa dance in water. I was just on auto-pilot and I felt like if we weren't online your Natsu would have felt it and destroyed Leixia, because personally, I don't know how to beat that bitch. lol

Yeah I couldn't find anything to beat all the tech crouching stepping backstepping madness. I need to get a better grasp on frame traps and keeping control of the match with her I guess. It is hard to react to stuff last minute online though. Like I think it's playable, there won't be just guarding and stuff online so you have to push that last bit of your game offline, but it's definitely playable to learn matchups and how to use your character and what not. You always have to do everything just a litttttle bit in advance online so that can make a pretty big difference against some characters.

btw have you tried DMZing your PS3? It makes a huge difference for online.

I totally agree with your opinions online jon. I feel the same way and believe that if i had some offline comp i would greatly be able to mold a more solid game because there were moments i tried to JG, GI, and even when i break a guard gauge but wasnt able to follow up with a solid combo :( i also noticed that combos that work in training DONT online, so wtf ya know lol. I still had a good time though but was shocked as shit when u hit me wid natsu's 66A,B at da end bc i ddnt release G or duck????? Stick with that natsu and maybe give cervy some more time too, he seems alot more lethal in this one.

Nope. But I just googled some instructions. Is this it?

I will definitely try that tonight after the session at CFG.

I think the best thing to do is learn match ups online and just have fun. It would help if everybody had mics too. Save the serious sessions for offline. Tonight I'm working on Xiba, to get a feel of how he plays and how to beat him. So if anybody needs Xiba experience get at me late tonight after I get back from CFG.

Jon: Yeah, you were mixing it up well w/ Xiba. A lot of it is just us needing to recognize faster which string starter you lead with and counter appropriately. But since sometimes we didn't, it was then really hard to react to the stance mixups w/ the slight lag. I have a better handle on that matchup w/ Nightmare now, but need to play it more w/ Pyrrha because that'll probably require a different approach. Oh yeah, and I hate how if you're not careful Nightmare will just go into Grim Stride instead of doing his CE, that happened a bunch last night.

Will: GGs last night. I've only been online once so far, but it's already been useful just for getting used to fighting different characters/strats. And I get to see what part of my game works and what doesn't (within limits, some lows I know I can't react to online if there's delay, like those darned regular bombs). So in that sense, I'm taking it seriously, but of course you can't substitute it for a genuine offline match.

Ando: Good games, the few we did play before you left (I was the Pyrrha). As you probably remember, I had no idea what to do when Voldo was in Landfish(?) stance on the ground. And in general your play was solid. Hopefully we can get more matches in sometime.

Ryan: Yes.

DMZing something is essentially keeping it on your network but it does not go behind a firewall. It's "out there" and unprotected. This also means all ports are open and there is minimal overhead...its like a straight connection to the internet instead of having to pass a few "security clearances." It isnt a miracle cure, but it can help a lot in some setups, so its recommended to trying to do it anyway (or go to portforward.com, find your router and get the ports for PSN/Live so you can have them manually opened/forwarded.)

Also I'm on PSN, "Aurelious_" Not a great player by no means but I'm not a scrub and looking to get better. Feel free to add me and request a match. Given three people share my PS3 I may not always be available, so if I say I can't don't take it personal. ^^

Is it safe?

Yea, for your PS3 not so much for the computer. Ceron thought you where going to Brawl at the Beach? I wanted to play you. I was doing ok.

Nah. No one from this area went and Q went to ATL. So, I decided I'd chill w/ the little one as much as possible since I won't see him for a while when I'm at Final Round.

Yeh man great games and Im sorry I couldnt play any longer, had some stuff to do. But I definitely wanna play u again. Pyrra is one of those characters I greatly need matchup experience with. As far as the LF stance, theres a low that can be charged for 3 hits and the 3rd is a guard crush which u can Tech Jump over the last hit. Then theres the mid that can be EX'd for 3 hits but i dont think u can step it and lastly, the low kick that turns voldo in the opposite direction. Oh yeh, theres also a mid unblockable but its super slow, linear, and not wrth the risk/reward factor. I hope this helps you guys vs any voldos u come across.

Yeah I don't see anything wrong with taking online serious. If anything it'll make your reactions even faster. Having played Marvel and KoF online, this thing is a miracle.

And yeah that land fish stuff is crazy. What are the counters to it? The mids and the lows look very similar. Also guessing right doesn't give you much of a punish since they're grounded. I noticed I caltropped you with Natsu and it made him stand so it's not technically on the ground, since that should give a ground stun. You should definitely abuse that more, it seems strong.

And yeah I was using Cervy a lot in the early days. I'll put some more time into him in the future. Seems like he has potential to be pretty cheap.

Nope. But I just googled some instructions. Is this it?

Yep that's it.

Not too risky since I don't think people really hack into PS3's like that. I don't even know if they can, or what they'd be able to get even if they did.

Is LF the stance where Voldo is on the ground and it looks like he's swimming? When I was playing Enkindu it seems like I was able to punish everything he did w/ it even online. He then began to mixup w/ the BA versions because I was waiting to punish. Personally, I think Voldo is going to take some work in this game. He got his 15 minutes of fame in SC4.

Any ground hitting verticle (like most character's 2B or 3B) will knock voldo out of LF its jus whn he gets n ur face with it is whn u hv to guess right. It is stronger n this game but still can b stopped like all his other stances, I believe he can also b 2K'd out of it too. Voldo IS taking alot of wrk will and he hits like a truck but he's slower, linear, and has poorer punishment options than his previous incarnations. Ive played em since sc1 tho, so im still gnna stick wid em.
