I just miss being apart of drama :*(

I will agree the community did tear itself apart. The Hilde/anti Hilde issue and the plague of online scrubs really did a number on making this game look bad. We needed to assess problems quicker and more rationally. When things like the Hilde debate were brought up (a necessary debate) it was crushed under the weight of many uneducated players, causing unproductive flame wars.

But really I blame the online crowd more than anything. Casual gamers look at the PSN/LIVE top 10 list and actually think those are pros, then get wrecked by unplayable lagcalibur. Who want's to play a game where it appears top level skills is spamming 1A? It doesn't help that those individuals tend to be completely oblivious to their own lack of skill and perpetuate it further by playing it up. DAre I say online made new players and then made them all quit.

Anywho, now that i read that wall of txt (very educational i might add...) i see on why you say what you say. However, i still don't agree with the attitude to an extent. But i complety understand you now...if that makes any sense...
 
Well I will say that there's two reasons I voted in Melty Blood over SC4 for Evo this year. The second one being more relevant to this discussion.

1. No chance in hell SC4 would win on an SRK poll. As one of the few people who have actually argued and still occasionally argue SC4's merits on that board I like to think I have a little grounding on what SC4's chances are over there.

2. The MB community deserves it waaaaay more. They've worked their butts off literally for years trying to get their game recognised. I don't know most of them personally, but I've tracked their scene and I respect the fuck out of everything they've done for their game. Which is quite a bit more than I can say for this one. The community here at large just seems to be really into bickering and complaining. And outside of a couple of individuals, not a lot seem to be particularly concerned with getting their game out there and respected. When your game is as widely played as SF or Tekken that's fine but SC after SC3 has always had a much smaller scene. It's not really much of an option. I guess I can't totally blame the community though because the other major problem is that the SC community as a whole seems to be spread pretty thin geographically. And that's not something you can really help. A truly high level of play doesn't come into being without a lot of top level players banging out matches figuring stuff out. Only then can we quickly figure out what is truly broken and what is not.
 
There was a fucking simple solution to Algol/Hilde/SW/Bonus...

There are like only SO few highly respected Soul Calibur scenes in the world..
If one of them just balls out and bans that shit immediately.. (Like what France did)
Everyone else should just follow.. and then silently work to protest the ban and bring it up again once the game has cooked a little.. (Don't like the fact that Algol is banned cause "he's a boss?" Shut up, let people play the game first... and bring up his broken points 3 months later when people have had enough experience with the game)

Unfortunately the individuals here all think that their opinions count and that even though they do not join tournaments, tournaments should mould themselves to cater to their needs. Or maybe they feel the need to show everyone they've read Sirlin's idealistic load of crap on what "Balance" should be about..
 
I'll be there and would be all about an SC4 side tourney.

SC2 money matches were also much fun last year, anyone interested?

See i'm gonna assume u thought it was a superiority complex I had goin on. Couldn't be further from the truth. I'm glad u understand a little better. The rest u prob don't understand about my attitude is my distaste for how things got to the point they are now for this community. No one still wants to own up for why it is the way it is and even now still use the same vicious behavior that got us here in the first place. I would go into it but well I assume most don't care so I won't unless they do. So essentially that's why I'm so harsh here. If u would like to understand better just ask.

You might as well go into it since there's not much else to talk about, but in a nutshell, we wouldn't be at this point if people just kept playing instead of quitting the game for something else, or just quitting the game outright when SF came along.
 
Despite my best efforts, this game is dead. You know when I'm saying it's dead... it is fucking dead.

I still run weeklies here in NE, on average we get 8. From what I understand, Mikosu's ATL gatherings get 5-6, and Philly gets randomly between 5-10, but for the most part people wanna play Super. I don't even know if NY has more people to session besides Ramon and DK. I get the impression that Chi has thugish/LP/ that setsuka player whos name i forget (sorry!). Norcal has a gathering once every few months, but no tournaments. TX Trashday was a major and only had a showing in the 20's. I don't know if there are regular sessions. KDZ has quit. Linkrkc has quit. Alex J and Hates don't play anymore. SoCal is a void. I have to listen to people like lobo tell me that "online is the only thing that is keeping the game alive" now. Sort of makes me sick. The list goes on. I love this game as much as any of you, maybe more... but just let it lie. It's over.

That said, PLEASE, for those of you going EVO, support Cha's side tournament. There's no reason not to gather together since your all gonna be there and have some good times. That's what it's about at the end of the day.

I'll become more active again if/when SC5 gets announced. For now; the risk vs reward of running tournaments and travelling to events is weighted just a bit too heavily on the risk side.

look, guys, this game is FUCKING OLD. it is 2 years old. there are like 5 other good fighting games out there right now. newer, more popular games. lets all keep bickering about how such and such killed sc4. remember when sc2 was 2 years old? we were having 30 person MAJORS. remember when sc3 was 2 years old? same story. the bottom line is that people have moved on or gotten bored...period.

"the comp is not there anymore"..."too much bickering in the community"...no namco support"...............................

whatever the reason, if you wanna QQ then by all means fucking do it and adios. in the meantime, some of us are still playing, off AND online. some of us played sc2 after the hype died. some of us played sc3 after the hype died, and some of us will keep right on playing sc4 until something that we like better comes along. to those people, i say see you at DEVASTATION, or at EVO, or somewhere else in the future. competition isn't good enough? well then QQ please because really we don't give a fuck. the players are here. they were here before you and will be here after.

Well Loli, I'm thinking Hilde/Algol has a good chance of being banned to be honest. We've seen everything the game has to offer with them in it. I'd be more inclined to see what people do without them or Amy, but then again it will just devolve to the next low risk/high reward ensemble of Sophie/Voldo/Kilik/Ivy whoever ect... and people will just complain about whoever-is-raping-everyone's character. I just hope it's like....some Raph player, so I can at least laugh about it.

But let's be real, all this internet debating is just posturing conjecture. Let's see who actually seeks me out AT evo and we all will talk it out and decide what's best on the spot. Conversations go a little easier when I get to look you in the eye and question your motive, reasoning and theories on what should or should not happen.

I'm looking forward to at least some high fives and shoulder shrugs.

Why not look at the positive side and really ask what one measly tournament loses by excluding these characters? Not a damn thing in my opinion. Maybe encourage some people to play some other characters... you know...for fun? Because we know you HAV 2 BE 100% SRSZ FOR THIS TO SHOW OFF YER P33N OTHRWIZE PPL MIGHT LIKE THE GAME!

I forgot though, playing for 'fun' is really the flame topic here. It's kew though, you guys did really well keeping your game afloat with your totally awesome attitudes and all other players and communities totally saw where you were coming from when you decided to keep all the bannable characters that degenerate the tourney scene character selection.

Cha Cha: I will be at evo and involved with this side tournament. At this point I'm all for trying a new ruleset especially considering this will be a side tournament 2 years into the life a game series in which each incarnation average's a 2 year lifespan and this will have very little bearing....anything at all. I personally would like to test the whole stage ban against Hilde concept that has been suggested several times and shut down in a wave of "OMGFUCKSMASHSMASHSMASHROFLLOLQWERTYBBQ!"

I do think that banning Amy, but not the rest of the top tier feels a little inconsistent though. Lets face it the majority of bitching about Amy comes from simple ignorance on these boards or frustration. People like to overlook how retarded Kilik and Voldo are simply because they are more exciting to watch than Amy. Anyone with strong tournament experience knows how stupid all 3 of the S tier are though. Amy is not in a tier of her own like Hilde is.

If you don't want to use this opptunity to test out a more creative rulset then I would suggest banning nothing but Hilde and Algol as banning anything else could effect the number of evo randoms that might want to enter and use Amy, Voldo, Kilik, and star wars. Every number counts. Let me know if you want to talk more and see you at evo.
