Who took you the longest to get familiar with?

Lissosaya

[10] Knight
Sorry if this is slightly similar to my older thread. I would just like to know, out of the characters you use now (in any soul calibur game), who did you train most with? How long did it take? My answer is viola, it's been 2 1/2 month to get slightly decent, but I'm still training with her because I have a lot of improvements to make. Sc4=talim; Sc3=voldo ;sc2=xianghua. And sorry for all the threads haha.

In SC2 it was Ivy, in 3 it was Sophi, in 4 Hilde, and 5 I can't get Tira down, I'm having the worst time with her. I really want to learn her, but I just have so many issues trying to actually play her.

SC2: Ivy-3wks. Cassandra- 1 wk ( very easy to learn.)
SC4: Ivy-I gave up. Cassandra: 1 month, she was much more aggressive and I liked it to the point I mained her. Sophitia: 4 wks. She played diffrently than Cassandra so it was strange but suuuper easy to play as.
SC5: Pyrrha..Just like her mom. Patroklos: Like his aunt. Ivy: Hm Id say about 2 months..Its harder to play with her now that she has a somewhat lacking moveset. Hilde: Still training but so far its been a month :O

Maxi, in previous games was auto pilot (even more I mean) you pushed some buttons and you had done a super combo without realizing. In SCV however you need to actually learn him, and to be honest is being difficult.

Maxi....When I played as Maxi for the first time, I freaking promise I pressed like 3 buttons and he started moving more than three times, I was like wtf is going on....xD;;

Maxi moves around so much it scares me, (On rare occasions when I do play him, especially since I've been playing 2 a lot lately), I've been freaking out because I think I'm gonna end up launching him off the stage because I pressed B.

That's a very good question. ^_^ I think I'll share my experiences...

-SCII: I mostly trained and used Ivy, Taki, Kilik, Yun-Seong, & Xianghua. My top 3 mains were Ivy, Taki, & Yun-Seong. It took me the longest to learn Ivy at the time and to this day, I still haven't been able to do her "Serpent Suffering" (I probably said it wrong). The one where she slams you down and stabs her sword through you, then the sword breaks apart and flings you up in the air and shoots it's shards all over you. It's a shame too because that's my favorite attack of her's lol. Other than that, everyone else was pretty standard to learn.
-SCIII: In this game, I mostly trained and used Tira, Cassandra, Ivy, Taki, Yun-Seong, Kilik, Xianghua, and later on, Sophitia. My top 3 used characters this time around were Tira, Yun-Seong, & Cassandra.
-SCIV: In this game, I mostly used Taki, Cassandra, Sophitia, Yun-Seong, Tira, and Amy. My top 3 used ones were Taki, Tira, and Amy.
-SCV: And now finally in SCV, I mostly use Natsu, Patroklos, Ivy, Hilde, Viola, Z.W.E.I., and Pyrrha. My top 4 this time around are Natsu, Patroklos, Z.W.E.I., and Viola.

But in every game, I tried to learn everyone because a lot of the characters are fun to play as. I think the only character I don't like playing as right now is Alpha Patroklos because I just can't get his Just frames right... But yeah haha.

-SCIV: I used mainly Yoshimitsu and Siegfried but the one i trained the most with was yoshimitsu.
-SCV: I now main Alpha Patroklos and ZWEI but mainly Alpha Patroklos since he is rarely seen online plus I like his combos.

I can play to a good standard the following characters:
Patroklos
Viola
Leixia
Xiba
Yoshimitsu
Maxi
Nightmare
Siegfried
Mitsurugi
Astaroth
Raphael
Hilde
Algol
Alpha Patroklos

In a tournament I would use the following characters (Unless I was trolling my opponent):
Alpha Patroklos
Viola
Nightmare

There are only two characters I do not understand intimately regarding how to play against them at mid/high level:
ZWEI
Ezio
(Purely because nobody really plays them, lol.)

Seriously, learning most/all the characters is a great way to get more comfortable with the engine. I would recommend at least casually learning the whole cast to anyone - it makes you pretty much immune to gimmicks and more familiar with the toolsets, so you know what to expect in a match to an extent.

If I had online, I'd be using Zwei quite a lot, even though he isn't very exciting to play him but darn it, I want to learn. :)

For Ivy you mean Calamity Symphony/Summon Suffering. XD Both of which are pretty hard to do at first in 2. After a while the command sticks in your head and it's easier to do, though.

... That's all I wanted to say. XD

Tira: I feel like I'm just right at the cusp of mastering all of those numerous combos dependent on persona shifts...And then I go and somehow manage a jump attack instead of continuing the combos *facepalm*

Patsuka: Lololol. I'm determined nonetheless.

I, too, would like to reach the point where I'm at least mildly competent with all characters. Tira shall remain my main though :D

Yeah. I feel like I'm almost comfortable with her too then I forget a combo mid battle hahaa. I'll never get good with patsuka, I don't have the patience, though I applaud everyone who can play good with him. Maybe one day.

Alpha Pat has easily taken the longest to get used to of all the characters I use. I've been using him for two weeks and I'm still not truly used to a lot of his stuff. None of the other characters I use (Maxi, Patroklos, Pyrrha Omega) have taken longer than a week to get reasonably comfortable with.

Two weeks isn't close to enough, it'll take you a few months before you start tapping into his potential (in my estimation).

SC2 - Yoshi. He had so many "hidden" JFs. Lots of bugs and ways to bust out amazing-if-slightly-broken things (like 4A series allowing a hidden BT JF mixup with BT 2A which was an i7 low and BT 2B for the mid mix up into his insane FC game).

SC5 - Alpha, who is my main. To a lesser extent Viola, but she was pretty easy once you understand how her orb recall cancels work. Alpha is just a huge time investment. Yoshi is still on my radar, as he has a lot of things that take a ton of effort, but can be quite useful if mastered (i.e. JF 1A series, which is hard D:)

To this day, I still can't get CS right. So I'm gonna say Ivy.

I do not, however, believe that one ceases to learn a character. Have you seen someone win a tournament without getting even touched? Of course not, you can never really learn a character completely, and that's one of the things that makes fighting games unique.
True that.

In soul calibur II I could preform every characters move I stoped counting my level at 79

One problem I have now is when I'm playing soul calibur 5 with friends and family I will by reaction try and preform a soulcalibur 2 move while playing soul calibur 5.

I found my self having to go back to training mode all over again every new soulcalibur game.

Like soul calibur 2 I'm on a quest to learn all soul calibur 5 characters moves
