Fliptop makes people.

Well that's a lot of positive feedback. Thank you all, very much. I'll just dump my responses in a Spoiler. It's funny because in real life I'm no way near this tidy. Seriously you could give me a penthouse suite and within an hour I'd make it look like the inside of a barn.

*WARNING: This is huge.*

Lonewolf Kai: Yep I do get bored and will probably throw in the odd curve ball every now and then. Again, I'm glad you take something from these since to me that's what it's all about: swapping and mixing ideas around. Your support is most welcome and I look forward to seeing what you make.

HolyCarp: Lambert's lower half is a Tartan wrap/skirt/kilt/thing. I did have the Pareo but it felt too big and I was aware that I was using it an awful lot. That being said, parts of the pattern do seem a little bit lost. The pictures usually look very different from what I see on my TV due to it being a relic, so some small details can be overlooked by mistake. The overall feel is what I was going for, though. Thanks for the feedback!

Captain Thesaurus Le Bello: Interesting pick for your favourite. When I put Trish and Thalas up I was keenly aware that their looks weren't all that dynamic in comparison to some other creations (both in this thread and in others). They didn't have a whole lot of colour, there wasn't any ridiculous extra equipment all over the place. I know this is all subjective but for those two (whose designs have been largely unchanged since SCIV/Broken Destiny) I was trying to walk the line between 'boring' and 'subtlety'. For what it's worth, Trish is one of my favourites. I'm also glad the gallery withstood the 2nd impression. Oh and you're right, it's the bird on Thalas' chest...and face...and back...I spammed that thing. Thanks for the kind thoughts!

ThePascuzzi: Stahl's skirt is one of my favourite character-specific things. It's in part due to it being sort of 'framed' by the belt and the trim- which is a giant pocket sticker. I love the effect. Same with Thalas, I'd imagine if you coloured the sticker appropriately you could get a nice glass-like or ice-like effect out of it. As for seeing them move, movement is always in the back of my mind when making characters. That's what things like Cali's Gear Shield, Kendra's Bow and the Tree Arm have in common, they were all made with how the character fights in mind. Oh and if you're into robots and other crazy stuff like that I'd highly recommend the galleries of Lord Draco, Chobek, Vilarcane, Gabedamien, Matty82 and ofcourse Gatsu. There's obviously other fantastic galleries with more fantasy/ethnic designs (Murasame, Rdmunhoz, Pocky Yoshi) but I'm fairly sure the ones I mentioned earlier have some robots and/or sci fi things in them.

DokuganRairyu: I get what you mean, I look at some huge galleries and don't know where to begin. I tend to just pick one or two characters and go from there. Some of these took longer than others. Stahl was made really quickly once I got a clear picture of who she was, whereas Alundir went through a couple of different looks before I arrived at his current one. Same with Kendra (f***ing bow!). And I agree: Feck off, Bay!

Norik: Funny story- Optimus Prime was made after I misread your challenge topic the other week. I'm looking forward to seeing your SCIV cast reinvented.

...that took effing ages. After this I'm going to just sit down and sift through some of the huge galleries that are around. There's so many....so...so many.

And now to business, the business of hats to be more specific. Here we have a priestess of wind and a hunter of witches, as well as a recolour born out of sheer boredom.

"Well I, for one, am glad you're wearing a mask. I can't even smell your halitosis anymore."
Bio:
Bearach is the reinvention of Carbatkin, a character I made in SCIV. He is cruel, calculating and devious. He is a merciless bloodhound willing to inflict horrific amounts of pain in exchange for information.
Taking a lot of inspiration from various different looks (Warhammer's Witch Hunter and cowboys being the two big, obvious ones) I had a lot of fun making a character steeped in the more occult, darker side of history. While 'mysterious' was a word I had in my head while making him I also wanted him to be unsettling and creepy. The goggles and mask help with that. I also liked looking at the difference in context between Talim- a completely pure and good character wearing the hat and this guy. I'll let you judge for yourself.
Moveset wise I've doubled up again and I don't care. ZWEI's style is perfect for him. The way he tilts his head down while standing looks oh so cool with the hat. He's apathetic, ruthless and vicious with a calculating edge. Not to mention is sword looks like a crucifix and I like the idea of him having tamed this unworldly being. Even hell fears him.
I'm a big fan of that hat, now. That's why I like the challenge threads because sometimes you need to look outside your own familiar box of tricks. Now I'm gonna kick back and breeze through some of these gigantic galleries that are around.
Oh and here's Kendra recoloured with a very unique, original, never been done before colour scheme. She seems popular:

Have a good day!

I may have liked that post for the line "Captain Thesaurus", but nonetheless I looove the new characters. The wanderer Talim looks awesome.
I don't really have anything intelligent or constructive to say, so you must be doing something right!

Captain Thesaurus! Le Bello will caption you as "The Caption Kid" and we shall form a witty and well-versed team of superheroic wordsmiths. Genius! Le Bello loves you. Accept it.

You'll find Le Bello tends not to go with popular opinion - Not actively, it's merely an accidental effect that affects my affections. But Trish and Thallas, who both happen to be very different characters, are both stand-out ones for me.

Perhaps it's the subtlety in their designs? Le Bello dislikes when people add extra equips for the sake of it, or stick loads all over their characters. I find that it works best when subtle, and simple. Which brings me to Bearach.

Holy AMAZEMENT.

He instantly strikes me as a confident, slightly creepy, bounty-hunter esque Australian (?) character. It looks like he knows his stuff, and isn't afraid to let you know he knows his stuff. He probably knows YOUR stuff too.

Le Bello is reminded of Auron from FFX, though Bearach seems a darker counterpart to him. Absoloutly amazing work.

And that Talim needs no more expressions of love. I'm so sad I couldn't allow it, though, truth be told, it would probably have won.

On that note, Le Bello hopes you continue to participate in the challenge thread, as both an entrant and a voter! Once the Talim phase is over, there'll be another challenge for tackling.

The hell am I being your sidekick. I demand equality. I want to be Adam West with the beer gut. I will settle for nothing less.

Bearach is an Irish name which I'm pointing out mainly because it's the only name I put real thought into. Therefore Bearach is Irish, not Australian. Although they're both islands with a strong drinking culture so at least that came across. Auron never entered my mind while making him but I can definitely see it now.

I'm still agonizing over that Talim. Everything I try just doesn't look as good. YOU CAN'T BEAT THAT HAT. I might take a few days just and just not think about it, then come back to it fresh but it's just...the hat...I will definitely vote, however.

Thanks for the kind words, both of you.

I never meant as a sidekick, more a partner. Perhaps "The Caption King" would be more sufficient?

And oh I see. Le Bello thought it was Australian. I can certainly imagine it being Australian. Just say it in that accent. I DARE you. But I can see it now, and in ways being Irish makes him a little more menacing. Maybe that's Le Bello stereotyping, or accidentally being casually racist or something, but that's how it feels. The countries are just pallete swaps of each other.

You could still do a wanderer-styled Talim?

I shan't say more though, it may look like I'm being impartial. I've already got my current favourite of the entrants, so anything else will have to compare to it =|;}

@ Le Bello: It's a start. Although I'm dubious about throwing in my lot with a racist. I think I've solved the Talim problem ;). It should be up soonly.

@Pocky Yoshi: "'Nuff said" indeed. From a long standing member of the CAS world, it's not without meaning. I'm still slugging through galleries at a snail's pace due to disturbances but I'm looking forward to yours.

Nah, Pocky Yoshi is but an "average running on SCIV CAS simple style maker". Don't expect stellar designs, but some simple basic things of experimentation. Now if my phone didn't act up at this time, my new customs of experiments would sooner......and then there's those comics...

You give me a great deal to think abaout and experiment with. I'm still trying to think of clever ways to use the stickers to drastically alter characters and equipment. you, good sir, are very skilled at that

Hey man, I'm glad you got something out of it. There's loads of great ideas floating around the forum (which I'm sure you've seen, already). Grab'em and do your own thing with them. Cheers!

As for the time being, between Le Bello's contest and other distractions I don't really have any new characters which are good enough to put up at the moment. I have a new picture for Cali which is in her section (she only had 2). I have some characters which are kinda sorta halfway to being semi feasible but nothing rock solid. I'd rather not rush through them.

All that being said, I do have some pictures taken with my capture device which has suddenly remembered how to behave and not drive me up the wall. It turns out that excessive swearing and threatening inanimate objects with violence can in fact motivate them to work.

So this is a technical exercise of the most unambitious kind with the simple goal of not looking like complete and total crap. Hard-sell over. Enjoy!

Dude... Your stuff is awesome. After noticing how popular you were getting with the contest, I noticed "-Fliptop makes people-", and I'm all like, "Ooh! I wonder what they look like!"... NOW I KNOW. Not only that but you're a totall cut up with your captions! I try to seem lively on my thread but I get bored near the end of the post and end it quite blandly... (Like, "...Screw ya'll! I'm tired of typing! I don't have to impress you with my wit!") I'd point out favorites, but I can't, they were all expertly crafted with like measures of skill! (that and I can't remember names to faces right now, but I don't want to go back to check 'cause my laptop's slow as crap.) No but seriously! You skill with stickers is unparalelled! Plus all of these ('cept our good friend Mr. Prime) are original! Originals just astound me, cause I mostly do recreations... I do have two originals posted on my thread, but they're really uninspired and bland. make a lot of originals actually, I just don't post them 'cause I don't think they're that good, at least in favor of my recreations... But you have kind of inspired me to keep working on them!... If that's not strange or creepy... But seriously, I like your work! And I'm sorry if I got any fanboy-dust on you, I tend to get like this when I appoint some one as superior to mysellf... then I ramble... with my fingers... :D

Man.. all these characters are so awesome.. so detailed and unique. You give me inspiration to improve my creating skill and make better CAS. Keep up the great work :)

Responses have been spoilerified for cleanliness and justice.

@Yoshariolll: Haha, thank you for your support. I'm glad you appreciate the sticker work, too. I wouldn't go as far as 'unparalleled', though...even though my ego desperately wants to. I've nailed that biatch down. I'd recommend you shove your originals up here at some point, even if you're unsure there's lots of people who can give advice and tips on anything you might need help with.

P.S. WTF is fanboy-dust and should I see a doctor about an injection for it?

@TopGun: Cheers! Always nice to get that sort of comment. Check out some of the other threads (if you haven't already) for other ideas. Some may be gigantic and daunting but don't be put off, there may be unexpected quirks in them that you may like. Pocky Yoshi, Gatsu, Matty, Murasame, Chobek, Lord Draco, Vilarcane and Rdmunhoz are good places to look. Long list but all good.

As for this update, it started off as me trying to avoid overusing the colour blue. This was an abject failure. If the colour blue offends you or if you suffer from a medical condition which is caused by the colour blue you might want to leave. I'll break you in gently with the updated-blue free- Talim from Le Bello's challenge.

Euryfull.jpg
One odd sock finds its way into your whites? Harsh.
Euryclose.jpg
"Do you have a flag...?"
Euryback.jpg
"No flag, no country. Sorry!"
(Penny for the reference.)

Bio:
Karan is a kindhearted buttroubled young lady. She's seen battles from an early age and bears the marks of some violent encounters. For this reason she prefers to help the sick and ease the suffering of those who have fallen rather than cut people down herself.
Karan is a new character for SCV and is probably the most symbolic character I've made. She's worn out, grimy, downtrodden and has this giant bag on her back. Her duty isn't an overly pleasant one and so it weighs on her mind as well as weighing heavily on her shoulders. I also really wanted to get the flag in somewhere and the hat fits quite well for a disheveled look. The symbol is just there to make her role more recognizable (hopefully). Bottle of some medicinal concoction is also present. I deliberately avoided bright red blood splatters since it would make the design too busy with different colours as well as give the wrong vibe. The stains are there and you could probably work the rest out. The concept is fairly morbid as is. I meant to take a picture of her with the Spy Mask but forgot. It'll be up later on.
Hilde's style was used since it's fairly immobile (save for one or two moves) and the weapons have a nice improvised feel.
And yes, Game of Thrones played a hand here, too.
Bahl
Bahlstancefull.jpg
"If I leave a dead cat on your doorstep it's not a because I want affection. It's because the cat didn't know who he was f***ing with."
Bahlstanceback.jpg
I think this is the bird equivalent of shaving off someone's eyebrows while they're asleep.
Bahlfeet.jpg
Don't get blacklisted by your chiropodist or this happens.
Bahlposefull.jpg
"If you say 'Titanic 2 is a bad film' one more time you'll go the same way as the cat."
(It is.)
Bio:
Bahl is a carry over from SCIV and as such there were certain things missing when it came to reinventing him for SCV. He is a wily, confident and sly operator who constantly seeks to improve his knowledge of the worlds of science and magic. Slightly cranky but otherwise well mannered, he is willing to dispense advice those younger and less experienced than him.
Bahl's a giant bird, there's no real avoiding that and I did try to give him wings but just couldn't get parts to cooperate. Pat's 2P has a nice chestplate/scarf combo which seemed to fit the character. The only problem was the inability to edit the main plate which is always blue. So I toyed around with quite a lot of different colour schemes before just settling back on his older SCIV colours. I did try out the gradient thing on his wings before removing them and was pleased with the results. I just wish they didn't conflict with so much stuff. I used it again on his head, beak and scarf and was happy. I did try using it on his armour but it gave off the orangey tint which I couldn't shift ( I tried using the Rcolour All option first but that didn't help, either).
Anyway, Natsu's style was used since he used Taki's beforehand. Pretty easy choice. I wish I could record decent quality videos because it's nice to see him hop around.
Well that's that. Still putting a few tweaks on some other characters. Still sifting through galleries at a snail's pace but I will prevail. Eventually.
Bahlchocobo.jpg
"...oh sure, yeah, EVERYONE's out there makin' Clouds and Sephiroths and Vincents and Kujas and Aerith- Aeri-well what the hell would the plural be, anyway? My point is that NOBODY remembers the cute mascot who ferries these wastes of flesh around. You know what? You can stick your Gyshal Greens. I'm DONE with this. While we're at it, what the hell happened to my theme song? It's RUINED! Fix it!"

Karan is really unique and I like her. Not only did you use an item that isn't used as much(that hat), but you made it work. Well done. Everyone else is nice as well. Pocky Yoshi shall cometh again.

Karan and Bahl.. I love both of them! especially Bahl, he's my new favorite! I really love his design. Can't wait to see more of your awesome creations :) Oh yea, and is it just me, or does Bahl look like Olcadan? cuz he looks like a weapon master type of character. Maybe he's Olcadan's brother? lol
