An update!

Cheers for the feedback. Hats are the way forward, indeed. So are nicknames, incidentally, so thank you, Pocky. Although pointing out that Karan looks like a Bearach genderbend makes it impossible for me to unsee and has caused some mental distress. Holy Carp you are a bastard.

Moving on, here's a pair of roguish thieves. One's pretty, the other one has a beard.

Marianela

Ellieposefull.jpg
"I hope you put a coaster under your glass. Otherwise I'll put this sword in your face."
Ellieposeswordclose.jpg
"...Where's the coaster...?"
Ellieback.jpg
Clearly the work of the world's smallest, most confused lawnmower.
Bio:
Marianella (Ellie)is a strong, sexy and fiercely independent pirate with a fiery temper. Constantly on the fringes of the law and society, she makes her living through theft, cons and various other shady dealings. Always looking to profit from a bad situation, she makes a healthy living off the "bad luck" of strangers.
Ellie's a carry over from SCIV. Her look was intended to show confidence, a degree of wealth and convey that she is a bit of an outlaw. She's got the gold accessories without looking overly grand or distinguished and instead looks a little bit rougher around the edges.
In terms of her style it was Yeon Seong's in SCIV but sadly with his removal some reshuffling had to be done. Leixia's has a similar energy and one of her weapons even looked similar so the choice wasn't that hard in the end.
Cullen
Kallimstancefull.jpg
"Yeah, you wish you had a wolf head over YOUR crotch."
Kallimposeclose.jpg
"Hey...how you doin'....?"
Kallimclose.jpg
"All I was told was 'Wear a shirt and tie'...I've never been to a more awkward job interview."
Bio:
Cullen walks the line between bravery and out right stupidity. His heart, while often in the right place, is usually undermined by his lack of forward thinking and reckless nature. Ellie is constantly reigning him in.
Another carry over from SCIV (though he's called 'Kallim' there) his design this time around was to be more rugged and a bit rougher than before. Although I don't like leaning so heavily on dominant DLC (Pat's 1P coat being the worst offender- it overrides everything) ZWEI's stuff suited him best. Maybe it's a little bit 'derp' but the look suits him.
As for weapons and style, Maxi's sickle/kama/deathtrap was used to highlight just how reckless Cullen can be. Wild, dangerous and somewhat unpredictable, the weapon fits him perfectly.
And that's me for now. I have one or two more that are close to being finished, so they might be up over the weekend.
Good day!

Responses have been spoilerified for cleanliness and justice.

@Yoshariolll: Haha, thank you for your support. I'm glad you appreciate the sticker work, too. I wouldn't go as far as 'unparalleled', though...even though my ego desperately wants to. I've nailed that biatch down. I'd recommend you shove your originals up here at some point, even if you're unsure there's lots of people who can give advice and tips on anything you might need help with.

P.S. WTF is fanboy-dust and should I see a doctor about an injection for it?

@TopGun: Cheers! Always nice to get that sort of comment. Check out some of the other threads (if you haven't already) for other ideas. Some may be gigantic and daunting but don't be put off, there may be unexpected quirks in them that you may like. Pocky Yoshi, Gatsu, Matty, Murasame, Chobek, Lord Draco, Vilarcane and Rdmunhoz are good places to look. Long list but all good.

As for this update, it started off as me trying to avoid overusing the colour blue. This was an abject failure. If the colour blue offends you or if you suffer from a medical condition which is caused by the colour blue you might want to leave. I'll break you in gently with the updated-blue free- Talim from Le Bello's challenge.

Ok, now to the real deal. The real, blue deal. Here is a Field Nurse and giant ninja bird-man-a-majig. Enjoy!

Karan
Euryfull.jpg
One odd sock finds its way into your whites? Harsh.
Euryclose.jpg
"Do you have a flag...?"
Euryback.jpg
"No flag, no country. Sorry!"
(Penny for the reference.)
Eurypose.jpg
Can YOUR sheath do this? Didn't think so.
Bio:
Karan is a kindhearted buttroubled young lady. She's seen battles from an early age and bears the marks of some violent encounters. For this reason she prefers to help the sick and ease the suffering of those who have fallen rather than cut people down herself.
Karan is a new character for SCV and is probably the most symbolic character I've made. She's worn out, grimy, downtrodden and has this giant bag on her back. Her duty isn't an overly pleasant one and so it weighs on her mind as well as weighing heavily on her shoulders. I also really wanted to get the flag in somewhere and the hat fits quite well for a disheveled look. The symbol is just there to make her role more recognizable (hopefully). Bottle of some medicinal concoction is also present. I deliberately avoided bright red blood splatters since it would make the design too busy with different colours as well as give the wrong vibe. The stains are there and you could probably work the rest out. The concept is fairly morbid as is. I meant to take a picture of her with the Spy Mask but forgot. It'll be up later on.
Hilde's style was used since it's fairly immobile (save for one or two moves) and the weapons have a nice improvised feel.
And yes, Game of Thrones played a hand here, too.
Bahl
Bahlstancefull.jpg
"If I leave a dead cat on your doorstep it's not a because I want affection. It's because the cat didn't know who he was f***ing with."
Bahlstanceback.jpg
I think this is the bird equivalent of shaving off someone's eyebrows while they're asleep.
Bahlfeet.jpg
Don't get blacklisted by your chiropodist or this happens.
Bahlposefull.jpg
"If you say 'Titanic 2 is a bad film' one more time you'll go the same way as the cat."
(It is.)
Bio:
Bahl is a carry over from SCIV and as such there were certain things missing when it came to reinventing him for SCV. He is a wily, confident and sly operator who constantly seeks to improve his knowledge of the worlds of science and magic. Slightly cranky but otherwise well mannered, he is willing to dispense advice those younger and less experienced than him.
Bahl's a giant bird, there's no real avoiding that and I did try to give him wings but just couldn't get parts to cooperate. Pat's 2P has a nice chestplate/scarf combo which seemed to fit the character. The only problem was the inability to edit the main plate which is always blue. So I toyed around with quite a lot of different colour schemes before just settling back on his older SCIV colours. I did try out the gradient thing on his wings before removing them and was pleased with the results. I just wish they didn't conflict with so much stuff. I used it again on his head, beak and scarf and was happy. I did try using it on his armour but it gave off the orangey tint which I couldn't shift ( I tried using the Rcolour All option first but that didn't help, either).
Anyway, Natsu's style was used since he used Taki's beforehand. Pretty easy choice. I wish I could record decent quality videos because it's nice to see him hop around.
Well that's that. Still putting a few tweaks on some other characters. Still sifting through galleries at a snail's pace but I will prevail. Eventually.
Bahlchocobo.jpg
"...oh sure, yeah, EVERYONE's out there makin' Clouds and Sephiroths and Vincents and Kujas and Aerith- Aeri-well what the hell would the plural be, anyway? My point is that NOBODY remembers the cute mascot who ferries these wastes of flesh around. You know what? You can stick your Gyshal Greens. I'm DONE with this. While we're at it, what the hell happened to my theme song? It's RUINED! Fix it!"

There's only one thing I can say to all this ~

Man, you're incredible. You really outdid yourself with these designs (and I have a feeling that the best is yet to come)! Keep it up! ^_^

Pardon me for the double post, but ~

Didn't I already mentioned in an earlier post that you're incredible at this? Man, I'm impressed.... ^^

Thank you all for the support. I got a little bit sidetracked by Rdmunhoz's 'little' 4 Horsemen challenge.
I've gone in and tweaked little bits and pieces since they're appearance in that thread. So, without further ado, here are the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse for the Mathematically Challenged...two of whom are women...so really calling them "4 Horsemen" couldn't be more inaccurate. Shut up.

Bios and Ramblings
War: War is pretty self explanatory. She is a big red machine of destruction. I used the Gorgon helm here just because the horns look like flames...sort of. I also liked making the faceplate look like a furnace. Cheers to Matty for revealing the eye sticker, it went well with her skirt. Sieg's style was used since War is said to have carried a great sword and I prefer it to Nightmare.
Death: Death is sleek and deadly. Lots of stickers were used to give him an avian theme and I also got to play around with the gradients which came in handy for his shin guards. I decided against Asta's style since I already had Wat for a huge behemoth. I wanted something more subtle and quick, so Natsu's style was chosen.
Pestilence: Pestilence is a putrid, disgusting, walking, talking bag of festering wounds and diseases. I deliberately avoided spamming blood all over the place (although in the original one his diseased limbs were purple) mainly because I wanted to focus on the discolouration and plagueiness (now a word) rather than making him look like a zombie. Yoshi's style is perfect for this character (especially the weapon) given his life sucking drains, spits, Critical Edge and other bizarre things the style has.
Famine: Famine is dicey given the many different ways to interpret the character. Should they look like the cause famine by being a fat bastard or should they embody famine by looking skeletal and gaunt? I went with the latter and added various icy elements to it since harsh winters and eating healthily don't usually go hand in hand. As far as the style goes this will either be a hit or a miss. In the biblical story, all of the horsemen brought something with them. War had a sword, Conquest had a bow, Death brought Hades (as you would) and Famine brought a set of scales (Pestilence wasn't there). So, in a contrived way this is what Voldo's style is supposed to represent. Whether it works or not depends totally on if people know the story but nonetheless I reckon she still comes across as Famine.
Conquest: Poor guy always gets forgotten. Separating him from War is easy once you start treating him like a ruler and less of a warrior. He's got a crown and a bow. He's a posh boy with the most elaborate clothing known to man whereas War is all about fear, intimidation and raw physical power.
And with that, I'm done for the day. Thanks to Rdmunhoz for the challenge and if you've not looked in on that thread yet, you probably should. Lots of interesting and fantastic things in there.
Adios!

Vyseclose.jpg
"PETA just LOVES me."

Bio:
Vyse's ferocity on the battlefield is contrasted by her cold, distant demeanor.A tough disciplinarian, she's not shy about putting arrogant or reckless soldiers in their place.
For Vyse I wanted the look of a strong, intense veteran. No nonsense, nothing overly elaborate or showy, with the possible exception of her fur/feathers/fire details. Essentially I wanted her to look grounded while keeping her more flashy aspects slightly worn, faded or battered.
Her style was Hilde's in SCIV and so she keeps it here. It's direct, to the point and has a 'proud' vibe going for it which I quite like.

Mystwaist-1.jpg
...and always, ALWAYS remember your emergency newspaper incase you see someone you don't want to talk to and have to use something to pretend you didn't see them.
Bio:
Myst is enigmatic (sidestepping the word "mysterious") and charming. She relies on her mind to win fights before they even begin.
For Myst I wanted a brighter, more vibrant and refined character. I also wanted to convey that although she's quite elegant, she is capable and willing to get physical if needs be. I also had fun with the gradients here and was quite liberal in the use of stickers.
Her style has never been the same for each game. She's been around since SC3 and has gone from Seong Mina to Sophitia- both of whom are gone now gone. I went with Ivy's since it's got a nice, dominant presence
And there they are. Feedback is welcome, as always. Positive or negative, it's all good.
Cheers!

Thanks again, Rdmunhoz. Vyse was a total pain in the arse. Seriously, she's in Slot 6 and has been for ages, I just couldn't get anything to work (the Slot 1 occupant is even worse). It was the armour that tripped me up since the gradient pattern got that stupid tint every time I tried to use it. I have to thank Lord Draco for sharing how to fix that (once you select the pattern you want you have to go to the "Colour All" option and then set the colour. Then, like magic, the tint is gone). That's made things a ton easier. Glad you like her!

That challenge of yours bit me harder than I thought. Two more creations here motivated in part by the Death I made: Odin's Ravens Muninn and Huginn.

Arya Stark
Ren
Renclosepose.jpg
Renstancefull.jpg
Winter is NOT coming.
Renstanceback.jpg
This clipping does NOT annoy me.
Renclose.jpg
She looks NOTHING like Arya Stark.
Bio:
Ren is a shy, introverted and optimistic thinker. Not as comfortable or as able a fighter as her sister, she relies on speed and dirty tricks to stay alive. She might not be strong enough to throw a man through a wall, but she is smart enough to know that kicking him in the gentleman berries will incapacitated him- and she's more than willing to do it to survive.
For Ren I was trying to give the feeling that everything she is wearing is too big for her or not completely practical in some way. I used white to show her innocence and yes, as a matter of principal I used the Maid outfit, clipping and all. You move around while fighting anyway so it's not such a big deal.
Pyrrha's style was used since they have similar characteristics except Ren doesn't whinge and whine every two seconds and moan about her stupid, unlikable, unsympathetic and totally psychopathic brother.
....
....fine, I'll admit it. She DOES look like Arya. I was struggling to find a hairstyle that worked when I stumbled into the bob. I like the results and stand by them. If you don't know who Arya Stark is, go watch Game of Thrones.
-ek.
Alright, this time I'm stopping. Goodnight/morning/afternoon/whatever time of day it is wherever you are. :)

Both birds look awesome! Huginn's feet give me an overwhelming feeling of "why didn't I think of that?" I mean, I've made clawed feet with rabbit ears before, but putting it on the steel legs...GENIUS!

Vyse looks fucking fantastic all around, not one part of her looks uninspired. I am particularly loving that cape!

I didn't like or understand your choices for Famine until reading your description.
I mean, I get it now, but if you're concerned about people not understanding it just from looks alone, I am guilty :(

man... muninn is so awesome!!! I loved the design... very creative
now, there is one thing that bothers me a lot... Why namco didn't do these wings of a decent size? couldn't be the same of the evil jin from tekken... great and impressive? I mean, these little canary wings not convinced anyone that something with a human size could fly!!!

I adore Vyse, the red and gold colour scheme works perfectly, it's gives her that sort of fierceness that isn't the in-your-face fierceness. Usually when I use the same red, gold and green colour scheme, my character ends up looking like a christmas tree.
Your characters have a very definite theme about them and she sums up whatever it is that you do so well.
And Huginn is so striking - he caught my eye straight away.

One thing I love about your characters is that their looks convey so much about their personalities. When I see the images, I sort of decide for myself what I expect from their personalities based on appearance alone and then sure enough, reading the bio confirms everything I just thought. I think this is "whatever it is that you do so well"

Ren's outfit consists of what is possibly the most creative use for that maid's dress I've seen yet. Bravo, good sir! The wood grain on her shield and the detail on those birds' feet are rather well-executed.

Cheers guys. Prepare for some slightly self indulgent bullshit. Enjoy!

@Draco: When I saw those leggings I laughed to myself "ha...armoured clown...". I honestly didn't expect to use them at all so I'm glad I was able to find a use for them which wasn't goofy.

As far as Famine goes, I was aware that the design was a little bit tenuous and a little bit of a stretch. I wasn't so much "concerned" with people not getting it, I was just aware that that particular detail of the story is often overlooked or forgotten. I'd overlooked it and it wasn't until I was looking for something to distinguish her from Pestilence that I found the scales thing. The ice theme was mainly used to be distinctive since again, making her skeletal would be treading on Pest's toes. It's one of those things where just having a snapshot doesn't really help matters. Voldo's biting moves and her voice, which has the line "I'm hungry." sort of help convey the message a bit better but again, I can't show that in an image. For what it's worth she was the last one I did and admittedly caused the most problems, so no worries on that front.

@Y2Jabba: Thank you for the kind words, bud.

@Rdmunhoz: I know, the wings are kind of puny looking. Having said that, they are huge compared to the wings we had in Broken Destiny. They were Tweety Pie-sized. Maybe by SCVI we'll get decent ones. Infact, I'm sort of wondering if we'll see Devil Jin DLC at some point. I know he have Jin's but DJ had slightly more demonic stuff, didn't he? I'm just clutching at straws here but if they do include wings like that I'll be happy.

@HolyCarp: Bump saturation down and don't use the full on red and green. I mean use the slightly orangey red with the slightly blueish green. Vyse's reds are rusty as opposed to blood.

In regards to conveying personalities, I'm glad they come across. Looking at some of the other galleries here I can't really match some of the innovation that goes on in them but I look at making these characters like telling a story. It doesn't need to be a hugely complex thread of intricacies to be a nice design and at the end of the day they need to be able to connect with people somehow. This is why recreations are as popular as they are because people know the characters, they have the connection and so they relate more readily to them. If you're making originals you need to have a strong foundation and sometimes the more complicated it is, the harder it is to get the message across and so the final result might suffer. On the flip side of that coin it's easy to fall into cliches, though I believe that sometimes the word "cliche" is misused and it's actually the archetypes that people are recognizing. Not that I'm an expert or anything those are just my thoughts on the matter.

Thank you for reading my guff, though. The main reason it's there is to give people the choice of a brief intro to the character and, if they want, call me on some things I said or why I did things a certain way. If they don't want to read it they can just go off of the design alone, it's not necessarily mandatory to read it but I am glad people do.

@Leona: I was determined. It's actually got a lot going for it in terms of colouring the different parts. Textures and stickers work wonders on some things. I swear if I end up doing another bird-related character I might just flip a table. And I'm not talking wafer thin lawn furniture I will happily upend a fully decked out banquet-sized-could block out the sun if you lifted it high enough-table. I'm still not happy with their faces but I lost patience with the beaks. I might revisit them again at some point but for now, I'll wait for the DLC. Thanks for commenting!

Thank you all, again. I might actually be able to finish the poor bastard who's been in Slot 1 since launch with the new DLC. That'd be nice.
