Cervantes Q&A / General Discussion

I actually don't have much, as I don't get to fight against Cedric all that much. Here's what I know for certain, though:

We don't have any really useful TCs for this match, which is a problem for dealing with NO AAB, etc. Beyond that, I don't know many specifics. Viola hits harder than Cervantes, and her game is largely one of throwing out bullshit block strings tthat leave little opportunity for interruption, let alone strategy. It's difficult to force an offence on her as you must always be reacting to what she is doing.

General Stuff
2A to stop NO AAB. Likewise with BBB.
44A is aB punishable, as is 3B.
44A BE should ALWAYS be GI'd. 3B tip launch means we can inflict a lot of damage if viola fails to re-gi. If she does re-gi, we just cost her 1 bar for nearly nothing. That's crucial, given her combos.

Using Cervy's 22/88 K Is your best bet aginst Viola for her start ups. She can't really get started with out doing a HORZ.

Kinda like ZWEI, Honestly ZWEI has nothing on Cervy. It's almost always a sure win for Cervy. Using the auto GI's is Key aginst projectile characters lol.

I talked with Kira and he also mentioned 22K to her weak side, i will have to try this out.

I've actually been having trouble with ZWEI. So 22K is good for that?

Honestly, I don't Cervy has that many match ups in his favor. Sure, Algol's probably one of his easier ones and Alpha isn't that rough on. But he seems to have real trouble against turtles and strong spacing characters.

Yeah, I've definitely been having trouble with characters who zone me out (Nightmare, Siegfried, etc.) but it may be because I'm used to playing against my two training buddies, who are both hyper-aggressive and I'm the one usually trying to keep them out. I really need to do that thing people talk about and separately partition different play-styles in my head for different matchups...

do u guys think viola could possibly be.....worst than amy? I not sure but I like to hear u guys thoughts on this

Completely diasgree. Cervantes probably has a 5:5 against 2-3 chars, one or two negative and the rest positive.

No, usually I just use the B+K for ZWEI. I would also say it's pretty hard for me to play aginst Algol for some stupid reason. I only say that because I can't freakin GI his stupid balls. Omega seems to have the advantage on Algol if anything. Would anyone like to correct me? :-P

@Justin... Umm I didn't know that was a question about Cervy...

When Algol starts spamming bubbles, you back up and start spamming 6B+K. Gunshots are faster than bubbles + hurt more. Bubbles recovery is huge, so everytime you have a read for a bubble you shoot his face.

Of course only when he uses them for pure annoyance and spacing, dont do 6B+K from close range.

... UESLESS! lol I was talking about the Algol spam 6BBB? I know it's something like that.

Doc what's your xbox live tag?

Using that bar got GI's is FAR more usefull then getting 20 extra damage or so from a juggle.
You know, Cervantes gets a ton of damage off of a launcher... now, I've been using my meter almost exclusively for 4B BE (it's like a "free mixup" button!) along with using his CE in combos or for round-wins. I know we've got a whole thread for what Cervy can and can't GI (a thread which is fantastic and deserves you clicking the "like" button on it) but I am curious as to how people who aren't me spend there meter! Is it just 4B BE supplemented with the auto-GIs? Do you guys use his CE in combos only? Is your meter-GI-or-don't-meter-GI decision based more on matchup? Which ones? I still haven't incorporated meter0GIs into my gameplan because I simply use the auto-GI which I have a good read... what do you do?

Currently i use meter for GI's and CE in combos only.

I've had very little luck with 4B~BE mix ups as everyone just blocks high and i have to go for the throw, in which case i might aswell have just run up and thrown them and used the meter else where.

bullying people with GI's is really strong though, 90 damage on no re-GI and 110 on re-gi if you guess right is nothing to turn your nose up at.
i hardly ever find myself using A+G~BE unless i want to put their back to the ring edge.

(speaking of which, 2b-ing Yoshimitsu out of his hovering Dragonfly stance is fun as hell).

I've always wondered if that's possible. I've 8B+K'd Yoshis out of Super Dragonfly before, as well as Mitsu's 8A+B, Natsu's stupid roll thing, Astaroth's 8B+K, and a couple other moves. Not too much damage compared to stepping and punishing, but damn fun to pull off.

You know, the one where he teleports back, floats, and flies at you. It's very punishable and it's so easy to see it coming. But people still use it a lot... why?
