Any good setups?? Help needed

Just started maining yoshi and first off i gotta say that his FC game is pretty weak. im a 2A spammer so its essential for me to have some good followups. basically the only good move that i can pull off after 2A is WS A. also been experimenting with FC 3K. its unsafe but i find that its fast enough to land consistently. heres my setup for it:

interrupt with 2A, FC 3K, 8B+K (DRGF), DRGF K, 66A+B, 4B+K (REF), REF A, 6A+B, BBB

i switch up the DRGF K with DRGF B or SDRGF B to keep them guessing. 2A wiffs alot for me though so is there any other quick moves with range that gets me into FC where i can use FC 3K.

well im fairly new to yoshi and thats basically the only setup i can pull off rite now. i'll eventually experiment with more but do you guys have anything to share?? i know theres a combo thread but its not practical to land those combo starters without a decent poke first. im looking more for mixups into combos. im thinking that 6A has alot of potential for setting ppl up. Gives good frames even on block.
 
6A is good.... iMCF or 2a:B gets you into FC i've recently been doing iMCF , then regular MCF into FC 3K or if they start blocking your FC 3K then hit 4K,{B} to the unblockable 2K gets you into FC too and has a longer range than 2A , 2B is really good too about mid distance, 2B into FC 3K works wonders because they usually think you are too far away to hit them... if your doing 66A+B you should cancel it sometimes and hit a throw so it would be as they are on the ground you hit 66A+B, G into B+G4 or whatever throw you choose... well this is just some little setups i use from time to time... FC isnt really his strong point but he does have good mix-ups, Mindgames is what yoshi is all about so practice up on your stances, stance cancels, and Just Frames... if you need some more set-ups lemme know... lol and try canceling out of SDGF with a throw one time its funny and it catches them even if they are behind you at the time...
 
still fairly new to yoshi so his iMCF is still a bitch for me to pull off. a:B+K is easy as hell. i'll eventually get it down but right now id rather focus on his game rather than his JFs. i'll incorporate those down once im more comfortable playing yoshimitsu. speaking of JFs is it worth just randomly throwing out acrobatic bliss when your far away. (not too far to ring yourself out lol) its easy as hell to get the second K (dont even time it; i just mash K repeatedly) and it heals a shitload of health. if i get the JF he also goes into that auto-GI stance. and btw whats his best long range poke.

anyways thanks for the advice. really good tips. freakn love how yoshi has an endless amount of options even off of one setup.

agreed that FC3K has mad reach for a low that knocksdown. oh yeah and i heard that if the opponent shakes while your doing the B+G4 grab then you'll start losing health instead. and the opposite happens with B+G6 where if they shake then you start gaining health. is this true? if so...then mindgames are next level with yoshi. for everything...
 
yea you lose health if they break b+G4 gain if you do B+G6 and they break it.... but just do B+G4... its fast and catches people almost everytime, sorry i didnt think about how hard the JF's are to do at first i'm so used to them now i just tell everyone to do them! Yea work on your stance game first... Wake-ups, Stance-Transitions, and Staple Combos... the JF's will come eventually...
and yea if youc can land the JF version of 8A+K,K:K its worth it, the small version really isnt your better off just doing the B+G4 throw... but the JF version is worth it because when you land your safe....

just been messing with yoshi and testing stuff out. 4B is gold on block. gives -1 frames on block. practically anything you throw out after that move is a guaranteed CH. i usually do 6B (CH), 3AB, 6K.

ending the combo with a:B+K, 66B can be teched to the left and its sometimes hard to pull off online cause of lag. 6K is easier and guarantees more dmg incase they tech or u mess up.

and DGF is beast for wakeups.

anybody know any good round starters? or is backstepping the best option with him.
 
does yoshi have any other options to get inside besides 33BB+K? the move is pretty unsafe?

and what should i do if im in DGF and they just lay on the ground? wait for them to get up and DGF A?

If worse comes to worse, you can just use K. It'll hit on grounded and space them. If its blocked I believe that it should be safe enough to not be able to be punished by anything but a 2K. (Don't know the exact frames on DGF K)
 
DGF K is -22~23 on block, so most characters get a lot more than just a 2K.

If they are just laying on the ground and you're in DGF, you have several options:

DGF K does hit but you lose momentum AND due to axis issues it may whiff.
You can cancel DGF and go for 3B if they still lay there. Decent damage plus it keeps you on top of them for the most part.
Other moves that hit grounded also work (2A+B, 1B+K, 66A+B, etc). Situational of course.
Going into a different stance and applying pressure from there can work as well.

Just keep mixing it up.
 
im finding that using 9B+K, K after a knockdown instead of DGF keeps them on their toes even more. im pretty sure that u can also transition into DGF during the move so you get the dmg and the extra setup.

33B , B+K is not unsafe... you just cant try to hit them after... its safe they cant punish you with anything but a throw because you cant duck after... but most people dont know that...

9B+K,K is awesome for wakes... and transitioning into DGF you just hold G after the first flip and he will... I use this move alot... I get alot of CH DGF A's off this move
 
for opening moves I really like the 44B+K stance transitions, i usually go into meditation and mix it up from there, or if your opponent likes to attack outright sometimes SDRG B is a good one, just do something crazy and out of the blue, or 44B+K B+K to go to flea and hop around for a while, thats fun to do every now and then!

you must be blocking wrong.... it isnt unsafe... lol and if you know they are going to a,a you after then GI after the B+K...
 
Went to training and set first action as guard all. put second action as sophie's AA. Did 33B, B+K. after the B+K hits her on block her AA punishes before i can guard again. Unsafe. try it out in training if you dont believe it.
 
33B,B+K is -14 according to the frame data, not launcher unsafe but still unsafe. what should keep people honest is 33B,B+K,(CH)A+B,K to whatever 1K combo you want.

Exactly.... hence the reason its pretty much safe... Who cares if you get hit with A,A.... 33B,B+K is one of his best moves and should be whored out period
 
Even though 3B,B+K is -14 frames you can always add the A+B followup so you can trick people and if they think they can hit you with a quick attack they will eat an A+B,K attack. In general because of the mixups you can do, I would imagine it being pretty safe.

i only use the move to get in close range. i wouldnt say that its one of his best moves. do you use it for anything else besides closing the gap??

btw 11A->6A+K~4 is rape. u can followup with another 6A+K~4 if they attack back.

It is one of his best moves.... On hit leads to a NC, if you just do 33B leads to a nice combo... You can fake out of it and finish with 33B, B+K, A+B, K .... or do 33B,B+K then throw... or GI if you think you will get A,A'd

Why else wouldn't you use this move? High priority... Just 33B is safe... more damage... more range than 3B, can be hit confirmed for the follow up... Like you said it gets you inside... and Has a couple pretty good mix-up options...

33B, B+K is def in my top ten.... If it isnt in yours well thats fine... maybe we play yoshi two different ways ;) I can tell you from expierience mines very effective....

I'll have to try that 11A to 6A+K~4..... My boys get raped by the B+G4 throw its hilarious... I'll do it three times in a row then end it with a:B+K and their like FUCK that move is retarded!

Getting someone against a wall and just doing iMCF over and over fast as you can is fun as shit too lol specially with the japanese voiceover on... I love yoshi with that voice...
