Defecting SC players

All this thread is is just the same people complaining about the same shit that they've been complaining about since the game came out. How is this thread different from all the other grieving threads on this site?
this thread also has a good dose of nastalgia and hopes for the future. This thread has arguments because people keep wanting to defend SC5' honor and because they keep downplaying legit reasons of defecting with charges of ignorance.

You say that as if it's a profound thing, or that I have miss-stepped in some fashion.

I mean exactly what I have said. You are infact, a consumer. Posting on a messageboard or playing online doesn't make you a part of a community. I am not doing the excluding here, you are excluding yourself by not showing up. Is it not natural to value the opinions of those who make effort over ones who do not, or are we gonna get back into the "subjective" debate again?

I wasn't really commenting on who's opinions have more validity. I was commenting on how a game's social experience might effect retention. Maybe I should have been more clear about how attitudes could be improved to create a more welcoming environment.

On this we agree, but we probably have different opinions in how to achieve that end.

Bolded for hilarious emphasis. Look, we are arguing on two different levels here. I am using facts, and you are using weasel-words with no tangible backing or justification based on your own experience as though it represents the entire picture. Even *I* am not that arrogant.

Let me try it your way though, in the sake of fairness.

Many people I've talked to think you are talking out of your ass with actor-observer bias. I think the majority of people have to be right. Since that is unqualified data, and also my subjective opinion, I don't think it would be fair of you to challenge that assertion.

On a side note, SC4, lacking fatal flaws? Did you even play the game?
i loved Sc4 and i played it everyday. And the "facts" you keep hinting at is that developers told you that SC5 was superior game to its predicesors. Your selectivly disregarding opinions as long as they dont come from a developer or your own mind. youv'e been so busy talking, and not listening, that you truly havent learned anything. Maybe you are okay with being blind and narrow minded. Btw..... im a "developer" and im here to tell you that the world is flat, spread the word .

Ah ha. haha. hahahahaha. hahaha, really?

Edit: Yeah, I guess what do I know. I only travelled all over the country playing SC, SC4 most of all. I only ran the biggest SC4 tournament of all time. I only participated in creating this community. I only postulated gameplay flaws in SC4 which were repeated verbatim by project soul as citations for game changes in SC5. I only spent hours and hours and hours talking to Yoshi Utoh about the series, game design, and theory, including past game mistakes and design flaws.

I am blind, yes. I'm the one who is short sighted here, clearly.

Hey guys! I loved SC4 and played it every day! Therefore I know more than all of you! SC4 totally wasn't full of flaws. Being able to safely move in any direction at any point in time without fear of more than an AA is totally not a problem in the game design. The online being so shitty that you could barely block half second lows wasn't a problem (has nothing to do with the game design itself but fuck it might as well throw it in there). Oh and the guys who have legitimate input after playing the SC series for four times as long; Well you're all just bad and only use three moves. /troll

like i said, your only saying this because you think it validates you opinion that defectors are ignorant and that SC 1-SC4 were doomed to fail until SC5 "saved" it. If you think SC5 is so great them maybe you should travel the world again just so you can ask. And when consumers dont support SC5 with their cash just remind them that they are ignorant. Btw, how do those SC5 tourneys compare to the huge SC4 tourneys you mentioned? But now i understand issuse, you just said your gameplay ideas directly influenced project soul on SC5. I have no intention of insulting you but calling me ignorant because i dont like the changes you influenced is childish. If your'e an adult then you should know better.

How can you possibly be so short sighted and so self-righteous at the same time?

I know I'm guilty of not exactly maintaining civility in disagreements. That's why I said we should consider holding a mirror to ourselves as a community/consumers/enthusiasts/collective/etc... We should be more aware of the atmosphere we help create and the perceptions it casts. People who only interact through this site, and not through actual participation at events may be doing the most they can with the opportunities they have. Considering a person who supports a game solely socially to not be part of the community looks to be dismissive of "minimal" contributions. I think the opposite should occur. Whatever contribution that can be made should be appreciated and recognized as a contribution to the overall community. I'm not willing to disrespect or exile a fellow member of the community simply because they don't contribute in a way that I'd prefer.

Its because im giving a consumer point of view, and the view of a fan that has enjoyed the series up until now. If you helped shape what SC5 became then you'll never enjoy what this thread is all about cause you have a coflict of interest.

OMG you're so original! I've never had someone insult me by calling me a girl before! I mean like you are just so totally awesome! But babe I can be whatever you want me to be! ;] But just so you know you're gonna be the bitch in this relationship.

What good is this "consumer point of view" exactly? You buy the game, find it difficult, then give up. How does that make your opinions more valid?

And the conflict of interest statement: by that same logic, isn't your claim of being a fan of the previous games a conflict of interest? It's evident you prefer the previous games, so isn't that a conflict of interest?

so true. you know, my biggest regret about SC4 is that i didnt make an effort to attend any events.

it wasnt an insult, it was a joke. nevrmind....

Are me and SuckingMaw the only two here trying to have a productive conversation?
In other words...can we move on from who's voices should be heard and why and onto the big picture of what tone those voices have and how they reflect on the community and contribute to or detract from retention?
