Defecting SC players

Quite a few people just want to play other fighting games, because they are fighting game fans in general. Nothing wrong with that.

Of course I will be playing DOA5 and Tekken Tag Tournament 2, regardless of Tekken being too "juggle-dependent" now.

I don't have a problem with that. Everyone should try out these other fighting games that are out.

The problem that I have are the people who need to make it a point now to let everyone know publicly that they're quitting SCV for whatever just because there are new 3D games that are out. Just go play them.

For those who are new, we went through the same shit when SC4 came out where we had some people who felt the need to let everyone know that they were quitting the game for Tekken 6, and only one person actually did quit the game for T6 but eventually came back to playing SC4 again.

All this thread is is the same stuff that's been talked about to death, and now it's become severely derailed as people want to get their point across. Anyway, I'm going back to playing games.

I ain't never gonna give up on this game, SCV is literally the best in the series for me. Nobody is here for seeing long eloquently written 15 chapters of fanfiction written on why someone quit this game. Like, bye.

I get the game needs to be patched and whatever, but I can't stand negative people.

BECUASE OLDAH TEKKUNT GAYMZ HAD SO MUCH BEEETAH BALANZE THEN TEKKUN SIICKS TEKKUHN 6 SUX BECUZ I CANT DO MAH EASYMODE 100% COMBOEZ I HAVE TO WORK HARDAH WAAAAAAH.
Seriously you people give the older tekken games WAAAY too much credit. Don't get me wrong I love the older games (3 is my favorite) but if you guys think that older tekken games had better balance than 6 or tag 2 then the only conclusion i can come to is this: YOU ARE HIGH ON SOMETHING, COCAINE IS ONE HELLUVA DRUG, say no to drugs kids.
When did I say the old games were better? All I said was that I didn't like the heavy juggling system used in Tekken 6 even though I learned to deal with it and try to incorporate it. Sheesh, you people go up and arms when someone says something they don't like about a game. Where did I say I thought Tekken 6 was garbage? I didn't say that at all. Fuck. :l

I'm a casual player. I'm expected to quit the game? Not happening.

Disregarding people's opinions because they don't play tournaments, or geek it up as much as the next person is closed-minded and at odds with reality. Amateur astronomers make discoveries and the scientific community doesn't tell them it doesn't count because they don't go to the conventions. Diminishing someone who enjoys a game as a hobby is a good way to contribute to defection rates. Elitist mentalities are a good contribution to defection rates. Why would the most successful people at a game want to sabotage the popularity of that game? I don't see professional athletes mocking back-yard players. Some of the statements I see made around here by prominent members of the community toward those of a lesser skill level are just down right spiteful. I hope, when you're tossing around the football in the backyard on Thanksgiving, that an actual NFL quarterback shows up and tells you you're not appreciated as a fan, enthusiast or hobbyist. If you don't play in the league you should have no opinion, and if you do it's meaningless and likely ignorant. There's got to be a better way for us as a community to interact regardless of skill level or popularity. And I call everyone on 8WR part of the community whether they play in tournaments or just play GC. We're a group of people gathering to interact over a common interest. If that's not a community I don't know what is. So, cheers to the community! Have fun until you don't then find another way to have fun! What ever makes you happy.
This pretty much.

And with all this balance talk. What makes a game perfectly balanced in your opinion? Sorry, I'm just seeing this statement an awful lot. "SCV is balanced", "SCV is not balanced". Yeah.

So touch of death combos are okay, but juggling for half health is just over the top. Gotcha

I finally watched the vids now that they played fully (weren't going last time). Okay fine, I admit, that is pretty bad... Did that sort of stuff happen in Tekken 3 & 5? I know it happened in 4 with Hwoarang & Jin.

Tekken 2 control wise wasn't my favorite since it felt unresponsive at times. And I only played Tekken 1 like once on Tekken 5 and didn't like how unresponsive that one was either. So I never noticed things like that could happen.

One of the videos i posted there was from tekken 3 :/

Oh I saw now. Well dang, I never knew things like that could be done. :/ Well okay, I'll admit defeat there. *waves flag*

Balance issues vary depending on who answers D:

Not even the competitive players are all in agreement on these, nor does anyone necessarily believe these all to be problems or whatever. So it's spoiler'd, seeing as how getting into these details and arguing about how true they are isn't really something beneficial to this conversation. I don't agree with all of these opinions either, I just collected them.

Aeon: Superior mobility, being able to restrict enemy movement, and ring outs are what he's best at. Everything else he has is generic or gimmicky.

Algol: Although mediocre without meter, he gains it at a respectable rate. From a single stun he has many options that will deal out fairly high amounts of damage. If he has two full bars of meter, you're lucky if he decides to use his CE as the other options he has from a single stun are much nastier.

Astaroth: He needs to land two combos and he wins, basically.
Dampierre: He has B!E! and several niche tools, little else. But then, he is a troll character.

Leixia: Her damage output is just low. Although her toolset is pretty good, she requires more good reads and smarter play to compete against other characters.

Maxi: Although his clean hits and high base damage do make every hit he lands hurt, against players that know his stances he's a bit on the unsafe side and is higher risk than he appears to be.

Mitsurugi: Amongst his lengthy list of weaknesses are that 4B is not a 240 damage i7 unblockable.</sarcasm> He's pretty good. From the developer perspective, balancing him is extremely difficult because if his tools become mediocre he'll become moot as his purpose to keep the enemy guessing on mixups and eating high damage for making failed reads. Ensuring such a character is balanced perfectly is akin to walking on a wire suspended between two poles held by two people on unicycles on tightropes. It can't be emphasized enough, though even some notable Mitsurugi mains have stated that they too believe his 4B is just too good as it currently is.

Nightmare: His risks can often outweigh his potential rewards in a few matchups(hello Greeks), which is extremely bad for him given he's a high risk/high reward character.

Patroklos: He doesn't really have any weaknesses overall, but he has probably the best meter gain in the game. If he's out of meter, it's because he's killed everyone and moved onto his next foe.

Pyrrha Omega: DNS B has so much pushback that few characters can punish it on block(and she has relatively high guard gauge damage overall), so Just Guard and reading her next moves are even more necessary than against other characters. Given how good DNS B is as a punisher(a third of your health with the JF followup), this makes her pretty deadly.

Raphael: He suffers similarly to Leixia, but some of his combos will whiff when they clearly shouldn't.

Siegfried: His movement isn't very good and he can't get as damage much from successful GI or JG as other characters.

Tira: There's a wide range of opinions on her, but in short Gloomy Tira is the best character in the game and making use of her tools can be difficult due to her randomness and poor mixups. Additionally, her ability to hurt a foe she just knocked down is absolutely peerless.

Viola: In case you missed it, she has extremely high damage potential off of numerous safe combo starters with even half a bar of meter. As well as her back throw infinite and deathtouch combos.

Voldo: In about the same situation as Maxi.
Xiba: His combos are gold, his attack strings are a bit on the risky side.

Yoshimitsu: Range is a obviously major concern for him and all his gimmicks are not without risk.

Zwei: Another one that works out well until people stop sleeping on him and learn his combos & strings. If Ein had no cooldown though, he would be one of the best characters in the game easily rather than consistently labeled mediocre or even bad.

Who did you get these opinions from?
