Trying my best to progress....

WolfGenesis

[08] Mercenary
Picked this game up on sale...so far i'm enjoying it for the most part. On normal difficulty & lower i'm able to hold my own. In all fighting games i'm more of a rusher than a defender, but after being punished time after time, i'm trying to balance both play styles. I can dish out a few nice combos with most chars, and block a few attacks but my main problem above everything else is getting Combo'd while laying on the floor...over...and over...and over...until i'm dead.

I've watched videos for tips, but none do me much justice. The Ukmei technique helps sometimes but against people like Elysium or Nightmare, they still constantly punish me on the floor regardless whether I Ukmei up, lie there, or even try to roll..

I'm getting a slight hang of Just Guard, but as far as defense goes mine kinda sucks. On Normal it keeps me alive, but on hard it pretty much goes out the window. It's as if im fighting an unbeatable AI. I've literally spent hours trying to beat opponents on hard who just 3-0 me every match...

This is a very beautiful and fluent game with amazing customization, but the change between difficulties is throwing my love for the game off. Normal is getting easy & hard I have no chance. I'm trying to learn all these techniques and SC lingo but it's almost too much for my brain to handle lol...but i'll keep trying in training sessions for now...if anyone feels they can give any advice, feel free.

YOU NEED EXPOSURE TO HUMAN COMPETITION. DON'T TAKE ONE PLAYER MODES SERIOUSLY, EXCEPT FOR TRAINING MODE. OTHER THAN THAT, FIND GOOD PLAYERS AND LEARN WHAT MATTERS.

It's as if im fighting an unbeatable AI.
That's because it literally is.

The AI in this game, like the AI in a lot of fighting games, can read your inputs and "react" to them with inhuman speed. Hence, you shouldn't take your performance against computer opponents seriously, especially on harder difficulties- the computer is cheating.

(You can play the AI for fun, or use the AI for "weakly" testing strategies on a moving dummy; you can use the AI to give you somewhat of an example, i.e. "How would I play if I played perfectly?" But, I digress.)

Playing the AI doesn't teach you about playing actual people, online or offline- which is the true focus of fighting games. Put yourself out there, play humans, and you'll find strategies have a little more chance of working.

The AI will almost always know your wake up options it's one of the biggest differences between human players and the computers. If you are on XBL I would be happy to play you and help you develop some new strategies (I'm still learning too).

I recently got this game as well. (For xbox 360.) I had the same problem. After many hours, I am now able to fight the CPU on hard setting. My main problem is the transition from Talim's style to Leixia's style. Having to learn a new style from scratch is kinda hard.

I miss Talim...

There are times when I swear the computer cheats, but there's no way in hell that this is done 100% of the time, otherwise it would literally be unbeatable, but we all know what ain't true because we have all beaten legendary souls I'm sure.

Even then, the AI has holes and playing the AI extensively will mainly teach you how to exploit those holes which doesn't necessarily translate to one being trained to do anything useful relative to a human opponent.

(The AI sucks at blocking low.)
