Soul Calibur 6 Discussion

To be honest, I imagine most of them will return. Maybe they'll leave out a couple, but they'll likely just exist in tandem with their clones.

I very much like the new characters. I think it would be a travesty if they cut them all. I would never be able to have muh viable ZWEI. But yeah, new characters are fine. Theres no reason they can't have both.

Well if they go with my idea of rewinding the story to SC1-2 for the next game they could always reintroduce Viola and ZWEI then. Not many people liked the other new characters and since they were mostly just rehashes of the ones they replaced there's no need to have them back if the old cast is coming back.

Gee, it's like you want every game to be Soul Calibur II...

As for the new characters being rehashes, if they can...
  • Make Rock and Astaroth different.
  • Make Sophitia, Cassandra, and Lizardman different.
  • Make Hwang, Xianghua, and Yun-Seong different.
  • Make Seong Mi-na and Kilik different.
  • Make Siegfried and Nightmare different.
  • Make Raphael and Amy different.
Then, I am sure they could find ways to differentiate the new characters from the old ones.

It's not that, it's just that I can't think of much else they can do with the story as it is now. Other than ZWEI and Viola I can't see the other newbies returning since they were so unpopular and the oldies are getting to a point where they'll be too old to fight, so rewinding the story makes the most sense to me. This way the oldies can be young and fresh again and Namco will have more creative freedom with their storylines.

Fair point but most of those characters were popular when they were introduced and their fighting styles were all they had in common. They had their own unique designs and their own storylines which the newbies in SCV didn't have. Natsu, Pyrrha and Xiba not only have similar fight styles but they also look very much like the characters they replaced and Leixia is pretty much a clone of Xianghua in every way. Patroklos was different enough from Sophitia, but he was at the bottom in the character survey Namco did last year so you know he's not coming back. Who else is left? They might as well rewind the story to SC1-2, rewrite the backstories to Viola & ZWEI so they were born 17 years earlier and add them to the game, throw in Hwang or Li Long along with three brand new characters and fill out the rest of the roster with classics. Sounds good to me.

Wanting Xianghua back is a really bad idea because it's impossible to balance her. Her return will have automatic 10-0 matchups with my tech that I found a long time ago that would make X instaban.

Pretty much the only character I have a problem with is regular Pyrrha. She's just annoying imo. Pyrrha Omega is pretty cool. I also definitely like Patroklos, I hope he comes back. Natsu is definitely a lot more interesting than Taki, who is about as interesting as a rock. Leixia is literally just X. I don't have a problem with Xiba, but I prefer Kilik to him. aPat is also fine by me.

So even though she wasn't banned in SC3 or 4 and the next game hasn't even been announced yet, you somehow already know she'd be so unbalanced that she'd need to be banned in competitive play? Okay.

If we were to be realistic in considering who gets cut we can just look at the last ten in the danger zone for that popularity contest. Although I'd like Algol to stay even if he's ranked 33. Leixia, both versions of Pat, and O.Pyrrha, are in danger along with the mimics that no one cares about.

A random FB poll with 10K votes will definitely decide the SC6 roster.
Shit, you're right. A poll from the official Soulcalibur facebook page that states "for the future of Soulcalibur" wont have any influence on the next main game at all. The future of SC is definitely lost swords 2 or another mobile game. It cannot possibly be Soulcalibur 6, amirite?! /s.

X was OP in SCIII, but she was beatable because 4A+B didn't take care of thrusting verticals yet. In SCIV, 4A+B got the ability to aGI High & Mid Thrusting Verticals, while still being able to aGI High,Mid, Special Mid, & Special Low Horizontals. It was useless mid-screen because it couldn't combo. I guess that the Xianghua's nerf for that game. If it was comboed mid-screen X would have done 72 DMG(4A+B ~ 33_99KA) mid screen & she would be top-tier like SCI-SCIII. The aGI startup was Frame 3 to Frame 7. In, SC:BD 4A+B combos mid-screen. In SCV, Leixia's 4A+B still combos mid-screen for 56 DMG Meterless(4A+B ~ 66K) & 96 DMG with a bar of meter(4A+B ~ CE). 44B+K for the first time is actually an effective aGI. It aGIs Verticals at Frame 8 - Frame 16. 44B+K(aGI) ~ iFC 3B ~ 6A+B = 51 DMG(Meterless). 44B+K(aGI) ~ iFC 3B ~ CE = 82 DMG(1 Bar of Meter). 4A+B is also a great whiff punisher & FC 3B is excellent for duck punishing strings & punishing unsafe lows. Xianghua would have very easy 70-80 DMG combos that can happen at anytime leading to 10-0 matchups(I don't hate Xianghua, but it isn't ok to have her being a god-tier character that kills the fun).

X's returns could have 4 scenarios.
1.) Xianghua has great damage output and dominates with very easy 70-80 DMG combos that can happen at anytime.
2.) Xianghua will have Leixia damage, strong guard breaker, & be Upper-Mid Tier(Leixia is Upper-Mid Tier).
3.) Xianghua will have Leixia damage, strong guard breaker, & gets overbuffed like Viola and dominate with easy 70-80 DMG combos that can happen at anytime(Everyone remembers X being the best in SCI-SCIII).
4.) Worst Case Scenario - Xianghua's 4A+B & 44B+K become useless again(OVERNERFING CHARACTERS IS WRONG)

I hope talim and taki are in SC6, but are NPCs that you can only buy shitty items from.

Being a NPC would be best for Talim because she couldn't be viable if she returned.
