Honestly, I'd rather have both. Old GI/JI back, but you can spend meter to make it current GI (all hit levels, +27 instead of 20) or perhaps turn it into a JI.

What about... Normal GI/JI plays as it has from the older games, but using meter with GI turns it into an automatic combo punisher to follow up, sort of like how Lost Swords mashed a few iconic moves together for each character's special elemental moves (I forgot their name).

Also to contribute my opinion on the V-Trigger and old mechanics coming back, well, isn't V-Trigger in SFV pretty much the same thing as the meter in SCV? I didn't play much SF, but you can perform stronger attacks like BE, a super attack like CE and a boost like Soul Charge. So why would there be V-Trigger if the meter is pretty much the same thing? I actually grew to really like the meter in SCV. I just initially disliked that you need meter to do GI, but a lonof characters have meter-less GI attacks and meter GI has quite a large window.

It's not the same thing it's a second meter that gives added abilities in addition to what you get from the EX meter which is like the SCV meter. I'd say I've had enough of SC ripping off features from other popular games, before SCV it was it's own thing and I'd be happier if it would go back to being it's own thing.
Such a sudden turnaround here, for what it's worth I hope it pans out, but I still don't care one way or another as I can't see myself getting back into games let alone fighting games. Too much nonsense.

the V-gauge in SFV had its own meter. It allows you to use your characters V-skill, V-reversal and V-trigger, the amount of times you could use your v-skill/reversal was dependant on what character you were using. some characters has 3 bars and thus 3 opportunities at best to make proper use of their V-skill/reversal, while others had but 2 bars.
Same applies with V-Trigger in which they varied from character to character, Ken, Ryu having powered-up states, Cammy and Chun-Li being gifted additional properties to their normals or specials, Nash having a teleport etc

I think SC has enough uniqueness compared to other fighting games to warrant it borrowing a mechanic or two in order to evolve. SCV was still very much its own thing imo.

I remember how much I used to hate JG... I wouldn't miss any of SCV's knock-off SF3 mechanics, frankly. Hopefully Viola and ZWEI get a second chance though, if this turns out to be a thing.

If they want characters to have skills or something like that, I would like if they return the skills from the weapons like in SCII and SCIII, that was cool.
Also, if this V-trigger is going to be something between soul charge and SCV meter then I'm fine with it.

Honestly, I think all the SCV newcomers should deserve a second chance. Why not improve on them from both a gameplay and story standpoint in an effort to make them more interesting instead of just chicken out and erase them completely?
