I've seen how things can devolve here. And there are certain members and their dumb ass respondents who have been known to get aggressive and will take a thread off track for days. I will do what I must to try to keep that from going on too long. These forums have the most aggressive mods I've ever seen, people need to start calming down a bit.
Also I've found that bright cute younger girls tend to have a more widespread appeal than older more baddass ones when it comes to videogame and anime characters. I still don't see the point in stating who has a more a widespread appeal though, like that's supposed to undermine the other person's love for their character.
But do we really need to go on about this stuff? Let's just be happy we're getting our favorite characters back.
I told you guys. Bangoocalibur is real!Namco Just announced this game
However, it's what they decide to do with her that's the most curious to me....
Speaking solely about Soul Calibur V, I recall that there was quite a lot of fan curiosity regarding Talim aging 17 years for that back then (being 31 years old on there, had she been on it) but that obviously didn't happen as she wasn't on the game at all, which was still to the day an odd move due to her age being only 16 prior to SCV, so that would not have been an "issue." I will come out and say I don't know why they didn't use her on V.
Maybe they were afraid to age her? I'm not sure.
Maybe they had thought aging her would somehow kill her appeal?
Which isn't the case at all because people were very engaged and curious trying to imagine what she'd look like as an adult and a full blown wind priestess, which her design could have reflected.
I am personally intrigued how they will go with her. If they will feel they have to retain her "image" as being the "kid" of the series still, or just make her a short adult.
There won't be anything during TGA, so nothing before the 9th.Two more days, people. We can do this.
So you're saying Talim was like current DOA's marie rose? Talim was my favorite secondary in IV, and I hate marie roseI just want to touch on this subject, because I think this is THE reason why Talim wasn't in SoulCalibur V. If I might digress, there was an interview with Yoko Taro in early November about how he creates his characters (Yoko Taro explains 7 step process creating videogame characters). One of those seven steps is how he considers his fans, so he designs characters to appeal to a specific demographic. A few examples of this the fact father Nier (Gestalt) was to appeal to a western audience, the younger Nier (Replicant) to the Japanese and how the characters Kaine, 2B, and A2 became hugely popular because of their sexy designs. He also mentions that he "betrays" what his fans expect (and believe me, he DOES).
What does this has to do with Talim not appearing in SCV? She was created to appeal to specific demographic, in this case casuals who like cute characters. By making her older, Namco probably believed she would no longer appeal to that demographic. Aging the "cute girl" would betray the fans' expectations, since she would be placed into a "veteran category" with Ivy, Sophitia, Hilde [somewhat], and Taki. That might also explain why Viola was never explicitly revealed to be Amy (despite so many hints saying she is). Vioa/Amy was also fulfilling the "who is this mysterious woman?" idea and they didn't want to repeat it by doing it with Talim (ZWEI was also marketed as myserious). They couldn't just age Talim nor re-introduce her like they did with Amy, so they exclude her from SoulCalibur V to preserve her character. Instead, Leixia was created to give casuals that "cute character," which she failed horribly to do.
This is just my theory surrounding why Talim was left out, but it may be true. Creating characters for a specific demographic is something the majority Japanese creators do, something they've done in Anime and Manga, too. If Talim is indeed returning to SCVI, they likely realize that keeping her in the dark for almost six years was bigger betrayal to her fans than aging her. Now, they want to take the risk.
Here's hoping they just retcon all of SCV, story and gameplay mechanics alike. And yeah, Daishi WAS responsible for a lot of the decisions in that game, so I totally understand the hate he gets.

Talim wasn't marketed on sexuality like Marie Rose was, but they both fulfill the role of the "cute girl." So in a sense, yesSo you're saying Talim was like current DOA's marie rose? Talim was my favorite secondary in IV, and I hate marie rose
Interestingly, that new game announcement was just for PS4 and PC, it seems the rumours of an xbox release for SC6 probably being ignored are even more true .
