you know I am surprised that no one has mentioned since the first trailer that multi hit combos seem to be gone. it seems like this game is back to being a poking game like it was intended.
Well to me it actually seemed about the same combo wise.

Mitsurugi, for example, while in his "v-trigger" stance was doing a mighty long combo, and with "Lethal Hits" You get a ground bounce so I would argue that, if anything, it is more combo heavy.

Um was that in the trailer fottage or the psx footage? Because iv seen most of the released footage and i dont recall seeing anything more then a 3 hit combo.

In the second trailer that first showed v-triggers and lethal hits, Sophie had one that looked like a T7 crumple stun, not necessarily a bounce.
 
How do you guys prefer Rank mode? Universal Rank mode or Per Character Rank mode?

Personally i prefer the second option, i like to not have to worry too much about my league points if i'd like to try a new character in Rank Mode.
No Ranked match in general would be better tbh, since online Rank doesn't mean anything.

Ok I see what you are saying in that video. But with SC5 it was obvious from the beginning they intended to have long combos, i mean the devs were showing off 6-7 hit combos in the demos without even having to juggle. Where as with the gameplay footage they showed at PSX I just cant see people pulling off 16 hit combos like they could in 5.

Per-character, because it doesn't make sense to have the same rank on you main and on a character you're just trying for the first time.
I'm not preordering anything. The game could suck for all we know.
This. Very much this. I already made such mistake thinking "Bamco and Tekken always deliver, so why won't I just preorder Deluxe?".
Pre-ordering anything ever is a mistake in this day and age.

Those were an AIvsAI matches, they just were showing off the basics. We still don't know anything about combo system.
 
I'm hoping for this too, if possible i'd prefer something like MK where clothes got deteriorate/torn rather than character losing their whole clothes on an explosion, which looks weird imo. I can understand as well that it may take more efforts and time to do so instead of the first option, so in that matter i guess i'll prefer just have characters wearing their own clothes in the full matches just like in SC1,2,3 and other fighting games. PS: Sophitia losing her whole boots and became barefoot after getting hit by a sword? How is that even make sens lol
There are a few things I hope they consider changing with the current gen hardware, because there is a few things like that. I am a bit turned off to see some of the aspects of SCV like that just get carried over, rather than built up and improved upon for more realism. It reminds me too much of the ecchi levels of ridiculousness when armor explodes just so you can see a character's underwear. I'd rather they just set up your armor to have its own health or something and that it gradually breaks off the more certain areas get hit like from highs and lows, but it should stop at a certain point. Thats what MK did much better. Battle damaged models.

I'm just happy we're getting a new game that isn't Lost Swords 2...

Lost Swords 2 would be good! If it was more like the SC version of DOA's Core Fighters, and it wasn't just single player loot box with bad narrative.
 
Why not just give it a different name? Lost Swords is not what I want to hear ever again.

I'm not a concept creator at Namco lol I can't just think of a name for a hypothetical freebie game that most likely won't ever happen off the top of my head
 
Jesus Ring did you even read my post? I would prefer no FD released so I can figure it out myself :) it’s the most fun aspect of new SC games to me...

Well, anyhow, I agree. Figuring out FD is fun. Can't wait to figure out Ivy's 3B is safe, combos on NH, tracks both sides and side steps verticals :P
 
I'm looking at it with the Dynasty Warriors mentality. lol
Dynasty Warriors games have tons of NPCs and characters that with each new entry (which is a reboot/retelling everytime) they declone characters who were either important or a background player that could help supplement and flesh out either the story or other character connections. So it's not a bad idea.

Salia for instance would be a great additional facet to Siegfried's story to tell and be a character this time around to show that there is a character close to him in Schwarzwind that sticks by him (because she loves him) and took over as Schwarzwind's leader in his absence throughout the years he separates from his band. She could be utilized as someone who stubbornly tries to track him down and help him, show him compassion in his suffering, but he adamantly will refuse and be emotionally distant regarding that kind of connection and relationship with someone (which looking at the current canon, he doesn't bother with it probably because he just feels cursed and doesn't want someone else to have to go through what he's had to to any extent of the imagination).

Having and showing someone directly affected by what he's going through/goes through with the Soul Swords, Nightmare and all that in the early part of the story where it all begins for him to that extent in Soul Calibur's story (now being retold) would be an even better alternative take on the storytelling since you'd get to see and know he didn't have to suffer alone, though he chose to. Not wanting to burden people with his pain and everything he had to go through.
I would love to see Salia in the roster. I think she can fight with a longsword and a dagger, since daggers are associated with thieves and I if remember correctly, she used to be some kind of thief.
 
While Mitsurugi definitely looks great in his SCV render, I think a lot of that is aided by lighting and shading effects that SCVI perhaps doesn't have yet. It was hinted in the PSX interview that they have a lot left to do, which is why they don't want to give us a release date yet. I think the hair in SCIV for the characters was extremely shiny and looked like it was covered in gel or something.
I really like what they did with Mitsurugi's model as he looks like they definitely remodeled his looks from SCI perfectly, but I am a bit disappointed they didn't do the same for Sophitia in SCV. I don't like that her model looks like it was just carried over from the last game, that or at least her face wasn't designed to look more like a younger version or match what she looked like in SCI. They should just remake all the characters based on their debut facial appearances.
