Greetings.

Welcome to the 8WayRun.com forums. If you are new here, thank you for taking the time to first read this post and other related guidelines to posting in the forums. This is because you make it all worthwhile for the administrators and moderators by getting to know how you should or should not post, what each forum is for, and generally make your posts pleasant for all to see. At the end of this post, you will be able to make your stay in the forums a more enjoyable one by getting to know the forum basics.

All words in italics and are in red have their definitions for this forum given at the end of this post. Please make sure you know what these words mean.

1. What constitutes a good post, and what constitutes a bad post?

A good post merely constitutes, if it is a reply, content that is relevant to the topic at hand. For example, if the topic is about Nightmare’s movelist, then you would not be expected to post the following:

OMG Nightmare is top-tier!

That is totally off-topic and irrelevant to the post. It is what we call trolling. You are liable to have your post edited, or a warning given to you for being off-topic in such a way. Generally, you will be, and not may be, flamed at by others for being a troll. This is because there is little tolerance amongst the general populace of the forums for trolls. There have been many such cases since these forums were up, and patience can get pretty thin when someone new does this once a week.

A bad post can also contain what we call spam. You should refrain from spamming at all times in these forums.

Less often seen in a post are insults directed for little reason at others. Though these are also flames, they are more serious due to the nature of their explicit exposure of crudeness. You should stay away from making such posts for little or no reason, even if towards another newbie who is not acting in his or her own interests by making a mess of his or her posts and even if you have been here for a long time. Experience does not give you the right to flame others just for being an idiot just because your views differ from the person’s.

You should not have to create new threads merely to draw attention to yourself, or to ask a question that has most likely been asked. This is why you are always urged to search the forum first before you go around creating new threads, and if it was something that was already discussed before and done with, or something that could easily be put in an existing thread then your thread will only get closed and you will only be flamed for doing something unnecessary and possibly cluttering up the forum.

2. What can get me banned?

Basically, you will be banned only if you have been totally disrespectful in a vulgar or threatening manner to anyone. You will also be banned for generally spamming in any forum, or even worse, in several or more forums. Normally, for mild to moderate cases of spam posts or threads, you will be given a warning by a moderator or an administrator, either through PM or by a post in one of your threads that you spammed in. For severe cases there will be no chances given; you will be banned outright.

Posting the same thing in two or more different forums (especially the Soul Arenas) also constitutes as spam. For example, creating a thread called “Staple Moves” for each Soul Arena in less than the space of an hour (just by copying and pasting your first thread) would be severe spam. Even if you do it over time, it also counts as spam. Please do take note of this.

Lastly, you can get banned if you anger the community so much with what is deemed to be moronic and idiotic behavior until nobody wants you around. This happens far more often than it seems.

3. What are these ranks I see below a person’s nickname in a post?

These ranks and/or titles are merely a way of telling everyone how much you have posted, to a certain degree.

A supermoderator moderates all forums and has the power to ban forum users. A normal moderator moderates one or several forums. Moderators are allowed to change their own titles.

Administrators take care of the entire forum, as well as help to promote the game in general and keep the game’s interest and passion alive by trying to get tournaments working and the forums in good order. They can also change their own titles, and there are only two administrators at the time this FAQ was written.

There should be no reason to post a lot, even if it is not spam, just to increase your post count and your rank. You do not get any special privileges for having an increase in your forum rank at all. Conversely, you might even get slapped with a warning or a ban if you are not careful.

4. Help! Why can I not put images in my signature?

Images are not allowed in either posts or signatures for a simple reason. Nobody wants to have to go through a minute of waiting even on fast broadband just to see that less than half of that time could have been spent reading the actual content and more than half the page when fully scrolled is filled with images. How much so if the images were animated ones that take more time to load than normal ones?

5. What are these social groups?

[please hold until I get a cool-sounding definition from Jaxel]

6. There are so many forums! How do I post in them all?

Unless you are a superman or someone who can actually understand all characters, or someone who can even stick to the topics in all the forums (which is impossible by the time you are through reading it all), you should not have to post in all forums. In fact, it would be very unwise to do so. Just post in the forums you feel are more meaningful for you, and then only in the threads you are sure you can understand and give your opinions on and be on-topic for.

7. How can I know what to post in each forum?

Below is a full list of the forums and what they each talk about, along with what you should post in them if the need arises. The Soul Calibur II section is not included because it is a mirror of the Soul Calibur III section and therefore no further explanation for it is necessary.

Calibur IV Forum

This section is for the Soul Calibur 4 related topics that do not pertain at all to gameplay in general. For example, you can post about the story of characters here, talk about the game’s finer points or details, etc. You should not discuss anything about the game’s engine or technical aspects here. Those would belong in the Combat Tactics Symposium (see below).

General Lounge

This is where all the topics that are not related to Soul Calibur will be. Basically, so long as it is not related to the game at all, you can post about anything under the sun. Of course, inappropriate material for youngsters under 18 years of age, or advertising solicitation and the like, are forbidden. Since this is the so-called place with the most degree of freedom, you might spam and then get banned for doing so more easily than you think. Be careful.

Combat Tactics Symposium

This section is for the discussion, as the name suggests, of combat tactics and technical aspects of the game. In-depth exploitation of frame data, a look at the strategies and military philosophy from the Art of War and related material, such resources can be found here. Please keep it for serious discourses only.

Soul Arenas & Custom Character Arenas

These places are merely for the discussion of character-specific strategies. You may not post anything regarding the character’s storyline, his or her hairdo, the way he or she appeals to you, etc here. This is only for serious character analysis, so please keep that in mind.

Tournament Announcements

This forum is for the announcement of tournaments that are confirmed to be taking place only. You may not post here if you are planning a tournament.

Tournament Results & Planning

This section pertains to planning of tournaments, and results as well as reviews or feedback for past tournaments.

Match Finders

The Match Finders are forums where you can find people for games or generally talk to people within your state or country. There usually is a thread for your country or state already, so please post in the appropriate threads and not start a new one just because you think you cannot find it.

Calibur Web Theater

In here you can find the links to vids for the game. There can be vids of matches, or informative vids of combos for a certain character and the like. Please do not create a thread here if you do not have a vid ready for others to see, or if you have a question pertaining to Soul Calibur III media. You may do that in the Calibur III Forum.

Fan Art Gallery

This is where fans of the series can post their own fan art for all to see. Obviously, material not suited for ages under 18 is not allowed here. Anything that insults or flames others indirectly is also disallowed.

Editor’s News Desk

This is where the administrators inform the whole community about events or news. You cannot start a thread here but you can reply to one. Threads that are started here appear on the main index of the SoulCalibur.com website.

Past Stage of History

This is where you can post regarding the previous Soul Calibur series like Soul Edge, Soul Blade or Soul Calibur.

8. Help! What do these numbers and letters I see mean?

For a full list of the terminology we use for the game please head over to the Combat Tactics Symposium directory, where the Newbie Silencer and other threads can give you the answer to any general technical information about the game.

9. What else do I need to know to get set to go?

A very complete directory for new users has been provided on the forums that complements this FAQ very well. Please go here to look at what else you might need.

You should always keep in mind the following two points as well when using these forums:

1. Always check the stickied threads first as well!

2. Always use the search engine first to look to see if what you want to make a new thread for or ask a question about has already been made or asked!

10. Credits & Acknowledgements

Many thanks to Panther(who actually wrote this FAQ for caliburforum.com) and SH for their input, without which this thread would not have been possible.

Spam - Sending a message over and over indiscriminately is the exact definition you will find. In the forums here, it can mean repeating a message over and over, or having flooded several threads with useless posts or posted too much in many forums, as well as advertising for solicitation of users and the like.

Flame - A flame here refers to a post made just to insult a person directly for what he or she posted.
