A New Challenger Approaches

BurntToast

[08] Mercenary
Hello, 8WayRun! My name here is BurntToast, and, obviously, I'm a new member, and look forward to my time here.

I'm relatively new to the fighting game genre - I didn't truly get into it until late 2008 when I picked up Soul Calibur IV, which was both the first fighting game and Soul Calibur game I really took seriously, and since then, it's become one of my favorite and most-played games though, admittedly, still remains my only SC game due to monetary issues and things of that nature. My experience with both the genre and the series may be a bit lacking in comparison to the veterans, or even a lot of the players already here, but I'm ever-learning, and challenging those far superior to me in skill - even when they completely destroy me - is always a fun experience, which only helps me learn more of, if not my character, their character, and how to better utilize both and their skills.

I like to consider myself something of a "Jack of All Trades, Master of None", which is to say, I spent a lot of my time playing with multiple styles and becoming pretty decent with them, but I haven't really tried to completely master any of them. But of the characters I play, my two main styles would have to be Mitsurugi and Amy, whom I have the most experience with, but I also play a pretty decent Algol. Though, I know a lot of people don't really like him... not sure what the opinion of him is here.

After the announcement of Soul Calibur V, I've started becoming something of a 'true fan' of Soul Calibur and have been pretty hyped about its release, and through the SC Facebook page I found a video for one of the tournaments you guys were hosting, and that immediately piqued my interest... and so here I am. I hope to have plenty of good times here and meet many a decent player, as well as learn quite a bit during my time.

I'm not much for the technical talk, nor very good at all with the terminology used to name moves and the like here, but, hey, I'm learning, slowly but surely =P

...Anyway, I suppose this has dragged on long enough - I tend to write more than I ever intend, sorry about that xD; So in summary: Hi, I'm BurntToast, and no amount of scraping will get the black stuff off. Nice to meet ya.

(On a side note, if anybody catches that reference, I already love you.)

2 questions out of curiousity:

1. Do you plan to play offline/show up to tourneys?

2. Where do you live?

Anyways if you need anything, don't hesitate to ask someone you feel comfortable with via PM or here. Na-mu...

Ah, hello there. Thanks for the welcome, and the help; I'll check out those areas. As for the video, I watched it, and... it doesn't seem too complicated, it'll just take a bit of memorization.

As for your questions:

1. That would be nice, but I don't believe I'm really good enough to show up to any tourneys just yet, not to mention I'm not sure how they're run exactly. That'll require further research on my part, but it does seem like something I could get into.

2. New York. Greatest place in the world <:

Aloha, im still yet kind of new here myself and am learning as i go, but welcome non-the-less. :)

I would give tip's but Pocky-Yoshi has got you covered. Enjoy your stay.

@Leshain: Allo. A fellow newbie, eh? I'm not aloooone *hit* Thanks for the welcome :D

@Pocky: Actually I'm an hour and a half or so from the city, but I'll definitely look into it - thanks. But yeah, before I try competing in any tournaments, I want to make sure I at least really know my basics. As it is, I have a big weakness for low attacks and a tendency to rarely move out of the way of unblockables, so yeah xD But it is something I'm interested in for the future, no doubt.

Welcome to 8WR! Regarding unblockables, I try not to use em very often, instead relying on combos to get the job done more.
