Any Martial Artists out there?

Hey guys, wondering if anyone else practices any form of martial arts.

As for me, im currently taking Muay Thai but was wondering if there's some styles you'd recommend.

Thanks.

anything except tao kwon do, i did JKD for a long time and would recomennd that, but any simple karate is good. finding a good teacher is way more important than choosing a style.

A good training environment and mentality is the most important thing. You fight the man not the style.

^ definitely true.
But the thing is that i have friends that study multiple disciplines and I'm already happy with my current but I'm thinking of picking up a ground based style so i could be more versatile......idk

Also thanks for feed back guys.
XD

I've taken multiple martial arts in my life. I think the next martial arts you need to learn is dependent on what your goal is. If you want to fight people and hurt people MMA style you should invest time in Jujitsu or Wrestling. I think that is what you want because you spoke about versatility. If you are taking fighting for just the love of the art form and bettering yourself things like Tai Chi can be very rewarding. Certain fighting styles I've taken like Aikido are almost completely useless in real combat but it all depends on what you want from the fighting style. BTW Prinny, I studied Kendo and definitely wasn't a fan of it.

kendo? whats it like?
I heard it hurts XP

My goal is to really stay in shape and gain lots of stamina.
I'm not really thinking of joining ufc.....yet
I just have an appetite to to learn martial arts and hopefully be good @ it^^

I took Tae kwon do when i was a kid. There were a lot of creepy old dudes and fat ladies in there... i think that has to be the most BS martial art.

I'm into Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai. But due to an injury and a shortage on cash, I haven't done actual classes in a while. I still do small drills at my house though.

Well I didn't have the money for real gear so I used the ghetto standby gear at the dojo which had no pads. So sometimes after practice my head would be bleeding, so it was a little painful. The thing I liked the least about it though was probably the fact that there was so little to learn. They teached a very limited amount of strikes and expected someone to do them over and over and over.

I never actually got the armor, a full set costed around $450 or so. Also the dojo I studied at did not let you even wear the armor until they felt you had the basics down.

But yeah like Alex said there's very little to actually learn, it's more about practicing over and over and over the different strikes.

That's because kendo has a high dropout rate, as do most martial arts. Armour is a considerable investment and no one wants you to spend that much money and then drop out. How long were you doing it for?

About 4 months or so not very long I know. If my work schedule changes though I would pick it up again.

The dojo I studied at also didn't let people wear armor till they had the basics down. It makes sense considering a lot could go wrong even with bamboo and wooden sticks.

I train in TKD. (Good schools do exist. Do have to shop around tho.)

Ground fighting, try wrestling, sambo, or BJJ.

I think Kendo would be amazing to learn, I just got done with my weight traning and stamina conditioning, and i'm where i want to be physically. But, i want a new excercise that would be fun also. But alas, the only martial arts offered around here is Tae kwon do.

Does anybody have any thoughts on Krav Maga? I'd like to hear about some first hand experiences, especially.

ive taken Bujikan for about a year. I has really straightened me out mentally and given me a new perspective in life. I first joined cause I wanted to be a modern day ninja....hahaha
