Battlefield: Bad Company 2

As I type this I'm installing the game for PC. I'll post a review in about a week after I've soaked it in. I'll be focusing heavily on MW2 multiplayer comparison. I am extremely against MW2 despite the fact I play it daily (simply because till this I had no other FPS). Even so I will give a very fair comparison as my biases are mostly embedded in the working gameplay not just the hackers, lag, and etc.. (I did love single player however). So here's hoping I didn't piss away $60...i mean $50 (once again fuckin MW2).

Other than that post what you want on this game. I'm hopin it turns out to be the FPS for me.

[edit] First Impressions: I've played about 5 minutes of campaign before getting anxious and running for multiplayer.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Controls: Sadly I feel way more comfortable with MW2 controls. I feel very awkward being able to run but not strafe while I do so. As well I could not use my side mouse clicks for my gaming mouse. I feel gimped in this aspect. It just isn't as tight as MW2. It's gonna take a bit to get the hang of angles, movement, and accuracy for this game. Sniping is very hard. You simply don't feel like the one man army you can be in MW2. This could change though.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Graphics: Are great but my PC is forced to play on mid settings where on MW2 I could handle high...so I assume on a better rig this is absolutely stunning.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sound: I can get a good feel of enemies simply by listening and can even tell what they're firing, it's pretty helpful in finding a target.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While the lack of control and the awkwardness of learning a very different feeling FPS is present, it's a relief not to be worried about broken killstreaks/deathstreaks/knife/tubes. So far it's balanced which so far makes it better than MW2 in my eyes.

I tried it and was like "meh".

My PC friend is all over it because all he gets is a completely broken version of MW2.

And how are killstreaks/deathstreaks/tubes broken? The only broken stuff I see now is maybe knifers when it's laggy enough on certain maps and the Famas and the SCAR.

If there's no counter or the counters are too narrow to be feasible something is broken... How are tubes not broken? Even without infinite ammo they still have a ridiculous blast radius with instant kill. I'm actually really good at trick shotting them straight up and mortaring them. Counters are shield and that equipment. Shield is easy to counter...just fire behind him. As for the equip it so bad in general its unusable and at best just makes you take 2 hits to die.

The pill...you have no way to know prior to engagement the enemy has it. Upon engaging you will have to waste valuable time firing at them before moving to the next target, completely ruining any ambush attack on multiples. As well it gives them time to turn around and finish you off. Further more if you are not reloaded (whihc is common and smart in general to no always reload after every kill when targets are grouped), you can lose simply because the 10 bullets you were relying on didnt work to get the kill. Its insanely broken even if it lasts only 10 seconds. Theres no counter besides knife and even then you have to somehow know prior to set it up.

carepackages...random variable reward. Nuff said. Getting lucky and getting an AC130 at 4kills can have a sway on the battle and it is all linked to luck and is unfair. Even if you usually get ammo and crap, it still often gets you streaks well above a 4 count without having to earn it or have some influence on what it does. Its mechanically flawed in a game of reflex and angle skill.

Famas and Scar...balanced. Sure powerful but their quick kill capability still requires aiming skill, famas is burst only, and scar has a very tiny clip. As well since its a gun the rules which make a FPS are still in effect with the concept of aim and shoot. You can still kill just as quick with other guns with a little more effort.

im about to purchase this on Steam. and i would like to know what you guys think of it.

IFB, what do you mean you can't strafe when running? that doesn't make sense. every FPS should let you strafe left/right when running forward/backward.

I've played CS and CS:S. Currently playing Left 4 Dead 1&2 on PC via Steam. 1000+ hours from the two combined.

Game is great. VERY VERY balanced. I have yet to rage about the game like i do with COD. I will say the game has a learning curve and you may feel underpowered till you unlock the magnum ammo, but its not a huge issue. The vehicles and wall destruction make it very very strategic and it feels like a real all out war. You'll find teamwork is absolutely essential. The only bad thing I've ever seen happen is too many teammates will camp and be Recon and play it like a Sniper, this is very annoying.

It just got an update with maps...for FREE, so it gives me faith in the developer for future updates. There are a few issues I have with presentation and controls though. I can't tell what the room settings are before joining if it isn't added in the name, frame rate can be kinda bad at times (but that might be my rig), chat is only usable while alive and can be annoying when holding a conversation and one of you dies. With contolls you cannot strafe while in sprint. you can strafe while running but not in sprint. I've adjusted to it now, but it was VERY annoying as I could not circle strafe while running which is a very useful run n' gun maneuver. As well you can toggle between inverted helicopter and non. However this also changes the UAV which flies COMPLETELY different. Generally you'll want heli inverted and UAV non, but you can't choose like that and it has caused me to avoid the UAV altogether since I like flying my helis.

Despite the above it's great multiplayer. Maps are usually good, vehicles are amazing and fun without feeling OP, 16 on 16 is great, all classes are balanced and very useful. You'll find that the weapons have a very broad spread of how quick things will die. Where you shoot someone really matters. It can be either 2 shots to the head or 15 shots to the arm. This makes you hesitant to just quick snipe everything that moves like you would COD (where everything dies in 3 hits unless the games shitty hit detection ruins your day...I'm still bitter). You'll have to be intelligent and not just pray and spray. So in that sense it'll feel like CS:S.

Mostly I was being facetious with the FAMAS and Scar bit, it's just difficult not to be upset with the two most common guns (that are instrumental in your death). I disagree that toobs are broken and I think that killstreaks are ridiculously easy to destroy (or just use CB) and are not as good as free vehicles in BF, but this issue has been done to death and is not really relevant to the thread.

But is BF fun? You talk about how it is balanced, how much skill it requires... But is it fun? I found MW very fun. I don't see what the fun part in BF is. It seems to reward cautiousness and following procedure linearly. I find going in a spraying down a room of four guys fun. I find quickscoping fun. BF just seems tedious to me. Comparing sniping montages in MW to ones in BF. BF mostly seems like waiting and adjusting shots according to distance. Shit sounds like golf to me.

At the moment Resistance 2 is still my fave FPS.

MW2 is good, but we all know how stupid the Perks can be, and how stupid the builds can be. MW2 tries to be a balance between arcade and simulation shooter.

BC2 - WOW. This game is called Battlefield for a reason. Because its FEELS LIKE YOUR ON THE BATTLEFEILD!!

Very well balanced game, good assortment of guns and secondary functions. TEAM PLAY and CO-OPerating with squad is a MUST if you want to succeed. Great game. I think I might get it!!

this game is fucking amazing it feels more like a PC shooter then a console shooter. unfortunately a bunch of noobs from MW2 noobs seemed to have hopped over to the console version and ruined the teamwork dynamic... Lol at medics who dont heal people, engineers who don't repair vehicles, whole squads go sniper and refuse to change making a weak ass frontline because you cant spawn on them, and people who sit on the UAV or wait for the UAV the whole time. so I sold the ps3 version andI picked up the PC version much better community it is actually the BF 2142 and BF 2 community so there is much more intelligent play and team work. guess thats true for all multi-plat shooters though. God I hate MW2 and Mw1 for the negative trend they have induced on the shooting genre forever.

Edit: stop comparing this to MW2. modern warefare 2 is like "my first shooter" or the Dead Or Alive of FPS. battlefield was never like that

I totally use that dead or alive comparison to describe MW2 all the time!

I say it's fun because there's a lot of depth. You have to manage many things and you feel your decisions have great impact on the outcome. It becomes VERY rewarding when you accomplish something since you can't play mindlessly like in MW2 (it's all just twitch kill). Everything takes a lot of skill and planning. MW2 on the other hand is mindless and frustrating. Sure, it's fun to mow down 7 people in 2 clips with my SMG, but it becomes frustrating with how easy it is to be taken out by something cheap and unavoidable and it makes the game VERY luck based with getting kill streaks. Nothing sucks more than getting n00b tubed 1 kill before you get something that will greatly influence the game. As well that fucking knife is retardedly OP, there is NO counter to it. It's luck on who gets the drop first. All my deaths in MW2 feel cheap and undeserving. In BC2 I chalk it up to me making a mistake and I learn. Sure I may die to something unavoidable but it wont make as huge of an impact and I can easily recover from it thanks to medics and squad spawning.

BC2 does have a learning curve and if you don't get past it I can see the dislike, but once you do, it is a FAAAAAR better game than MW2 on so many different levels. I can't stress how happy I am with this game despite minor criticisms on controls and lobbies. As well I have a lot more faith in the developer.

shotguns are fine its really hard to get the range to use them. i dotn even use the things because they have so many limitations.

In most rush maps, most of the fighting occurs in that short range where the shotgun is overpowered. Though im loving the An-94 right now.

lol shotguns with slug ammo and magnum ammo has the same range as a LMG its fucking insane it also kills in 1 hit from a pretty good distance away also. Neostead and spaz turn into a sniper rifle with slug and magnum ammo no joke.... imma upload the DMG charts in a minute. Also has things like range/recoil/spread/ ect

I mostly use any LMG with magnum ammo it automatically does %25 more dmg. its pretty redic as far as perks go

EDIT:

to calculate magnum ammo give %25 to dmg and add %10 to range

edit sorry its so small heres the full thing http://i843.photobucket.com/albums/zz360/all_yomi/burns/jq505z.png

just zoom in via browser if you have too

as you can see the stats the devs give you are wrong GGs DICE

EDIT EDIT: just did the math neostead(with slug and magnum ammo) kills in 1 hit with slug and magnum ammo until it reaches 40 feet

Also <3 BF games forever

I normally just use buckshot. I love that it can be fired from the hip and still get decent accuracy.

Well heres the chart so you can see it better. For pc

If you wana see whether or not to use magnum ammo use these 2:

Before patch (consoles havnt got it yet)

http://img412.imageshack.us/i/bc2body31810.png/

After the patch

http://img706.imageshack.us/i/bc2body42110.png/ <--- Although both of those are for console, everything does a little more dmg on the console version for obvious reasons.

Whats retarded is the M60 seems to be barely nerfed, unless they add a lot more recoil to make it on par with the other LMG's then we're still gonna have a bunch of MW2 noobs running around spraying with their overpowered nublet cannon.

Anyway I recommend using slugs with shotguns greatly. It gives pretty much across the map range (as far as you can see) All the shotguns stats are almost identical. But the best semi auto is the SAIGA and the best pump is the NS2000.

You can also cancel the pump animation on the NS2000 by switching weapons twice or switching to ure pistol. Shooting once with the NS2000 then quick swapping to the m1911 is a really easy way to kill snipers.

lol yes M60 is overpowered but oh so easy and fun. you never have to iron sight ever

also an underrated gun is the XM8 LMG it has less recoil then the M60 lololol and can hip fire just as well

I tried the m60 I just didnt like the feel. Nearly all guns I go with a tight grouping with x4 Zoom attachment. I think I use the MG36 for Medic. I like that it gives a dot sight and just feels good.
