Casual Nightmare Player looking to REALLY improve

My name is Alejandro and I am completely new to this website. I have been playing Soul Calibur casually since II, and I have played IV but I did not know about this site until SCV, haha.

I've been playing around with everyone this past day and a half and I've grown an extreme liking towards Nightmare, Viola, and Ivy (but mainly Nightmare)

My general question is where can I focus my attention to on this site to find out more info on the Azure Knight and how he really works in SC5. I've been messing around in training and I've got the pre-set combos they list out for you down, but I always find myself trapped in a one-track kind of mindset always looking to JUST do those preset combos.

Which attacks could I focus on to:
1) stay relatively safe up close (since Nightmare's more fierce attacks can be sluggish)
2) how I can set up some traps to bait players into coming in close

I just really want to get a lot better at this game.

Nightmare is quite strong upclose.
I would look into his 50/50 mixups that is available from grimstride.
Nightmare is all about offensive and is a rushdown character, you do not want to wait for people to come to you.

Ah, thanks for the tip. Especially explaining that Nightmare is more of a rushdown character than he is a"wait-for-the-opponent" character.
