Character considerations

Hey everyone,

Just watched the MLG tournament last night. I had been looking forward to watch a known Leixia player (Kayane), so I got a bit disappointed when I found out she had semi-switched to Viola. Now, where to get the good Leixia fighting tricks?

While, I'm not trying to discuss Leixias tier, or anything, I did get a bit demoralized by the commentators remarks about Kayane having had much better success with Viola than with Leixia. I originally played Ivy, and switched to Leixia to get a more aggressive character, and it did help my win rate a bit.

You can't help but notice the absence of certain characters in tournaments like the MLG yesterday, and in the 'world championships', it's not like you see Raphael or Aeon either. Do you think we will continue to see Leixia in the big tournaments? (Kayane did try her out here and there, so it's not fair to say she abandoned Leixia completely).

While I like the pressure style of Leixia, there is another character that seems to have almost the same style: Natsu! Why would you choose one over the other, what should your considerations be? I'm kinda considering making the switch, but not sure since I've already spent a lot of time learning Leixia.

Any thoughts are much welcome.

The most obvious difference between the two is reliance on CH's for damage.

Natsu relies much more heavily on catching people backdashing or trying to disrespect frames and scoring CHs. Leixia can poke much more easily without having to worry about needing to score a CH to get her damage. Leixia also has an excellent evade (44B) which she can use to discourage people from trying to take the initiative away from her too predictably.

In essence, Natsu does one particular thing very well, but Leixia is capable of changing gears and is not pigeonholed into one form of optimal play as easily

I agree with you on the point about counter hits, mostly. However, I find it interesting that the changes to Leixia's in the patches have actually moved her more towards Natsu's playstyle in that regard. Consider this, she now has to land two CE setups in place of being able to land one and use both bars. This all comes when her best CE setups are CH WR A, CH 66B B, and 4A+B.

With the nerfs to her WR B BE and 22K, her poking pressure has been effectively reduced as well. I feel that she's still a force to be reckoned with at tournaments. I have yet to see even ONE replay with a Leixia player making good use of her auto GI's, JG pressure, or her 3A shenanigans.

Just because a few popularized players can't win with her doesn't mean she doesn't still have loads of tournament-worthy potential. Natsu may do more damage and have a more effective CH game, but never underestimate the power of good spacing and diverse pressure options. I still love Lexia's playstyle, and I plan on making her a competitive force no matter how absurd Namco's changes to her are.

You can only get so good by practicing, you need experience as well. Keep playing online matches with your character and you will always get better.

I can't believe people are still talking about Leixia as if she started to suck over night. If one combo was the reason you're going to main someone then what's the point...

This is good to hear :-)

I really do like her flowing fighting style, compared to Natsu's more "discrete" one (which seems more cartoony to me). But I must admit that yes, when the 'popularized' players move away from her I find it discouraging. I realize that this may seem like a bad reason, but alas, I'm only human...

I don't think she sucks completely. On the other hand, I'm not sure I realize why she's more diverse than eg. Natsu. But maybe I'll find out in time.

Also. I never use her auto-GI's, not sure how you'd utilize what you call: "her auto GI's, JG pressure, or her 3A shenanigans.". I'll try to keep it in mind.

The problem with Leixia's aGI's is that none of them catch all "X moves" or "Y moves". They all catch "All X moves EXCEPT for these types of X moves". And none of them catch lows. And all of them are slow except 4A+B, but the window on 4A+B is tiny.

Now, if your opponent is doing really predictable strings, then 44B+K and 22_88B+K are actually useful. 44B+K will catch 6B(aGI)A from Leixia on reaction, for example. But I wouldn't call Leixia's aGI's great.

Hi all!
Ya i know! I was so sad when i know that Kayane is switched to Viola :( This is all Namco fault that nerfed out little chinese marital art. Leixia is needs to improve output damage in combos and the switching moves ( just kidding) needs to come out faster. It will be good if there a guard impact in between switching moves ( just kidding) just like her ( <---- +AB) it will be helpful in reflex ur opponent incoming attack if ur opponent know u about to switching to just kidding.
Oh, is any of you guys know how can i send message to namco so i can ask if they can improve leixia for abit lol

on kayane's facebook page she said that she was upset with the many patch's nerffing Leixia. Kayane stated that Leixia's not really tourney worthy much anymore. so that's more or less her thoughts behind Leixia and i agree on it. i mained Leixia and Tira since the first day the game came out and get more and more frustrated when i see that my loss is credited towards one of the changes PS did to them. Leixia is still pretty good don't get me wrong but is much much easier to beat and get past now. her auto GIs are more of a lucky guess type thing instead of doing it the second you see and attack coming (ie. 44B4, 66B4,66bB4, and WRB(BE)) the window for the GI is delayed now instead of activating when the command is initiated. i do not like that. i even find myself going to other characters now because it is too easy to get past my characters in high level play. (i haven't dropped them mind you. only looking for other mains). i won't even get started on the Tira patches that screwed her over since this isn't a Tira thread.

HI!
Im agreed with your opinion. However, you must know that this game is made from Namco, I dont really think they will make leixia stronger or anything instead of nerfing. Let take a look at Natsu and Mitsu, their fight style is based on samurai and ninja which is from Japan, therefore, I dont think Namco will make them weak no matter how many nerf they got. Natsu, got some nerf but still high combo damage and fast with tricky style as well as Mitsu. If you get hit by them with 5 or 6 strong Hits ur gone.

Leixia complainers... get over it. Be glad her sword does go through people.
Dude stop trolling in this forum. Leixia has real problems. Her rewards are so poor that her overall safety and speed don't count for much. Kalas and Kayane are two of the world's best players and even they are mortified by her weakness. I would like to think I'm pretty good too. She's not the worst character in the game but she has an uphill struggle against most characters and a monumental task against the top tier.

If that still isn't enough for you, ask Malek, Maxou, Docvizzo, Eggmaster... when your character gets 41 damage from -20+ moves, 55 damage from a total whiff, and has painfully weak options anywhere outside of close range, you can see how hard it is to compete with the majority of the cast.

I admit the nature of posts in this thread is little more than unhelpful whining. Nonetheless, even most positive and helpful contributions will have a sense of struggle in the tone, because genuinely threatening tools with Leixia are few and far between.

I think Zwei is a better character than Leixia.
Man I honestly don't know, I think out of all the other chars zwei will actually be the hardests to judge...he isn't really played alot. Imo zwei has to really work hard against someone who has enough matchup knowledge. It's true zwei has a powerful offense when applied properly, but it isn't as powerful as some make it out to be :/ he has a good guard crush game like leixia and overall does more damage than her, but he lacks in safety and doesn't punish well at all(his linear see-able move's are also a problem). Im really hoping belial actually proves me wrong and wins with him at big events, since I think he is the only well known tourney player who's using zwei atm.

Because atm I feel zwei is in the same boat as raph....I don't think zwei is "bad" just has huge problems agains't the higher up chars in this game which makes him seem "bad". I would like to know...why do u think he's better than leixia?

please stop coming in this forum to troll you dont play leixia, so im not sure why you post here.
i think you may want to keep your nose to yourself.
your the last person to tell people off for complaining about huge problems that leixia has when all you do is moan about and already high tier character.
every tournament player even casual can agree that leixia has more problems than most characters and has become the hardest character to win with at most levels.
Siegfried whiffing issue are only on his guard break move. namco said its was designed to whiff up close its a long ranged move not for close range.
this is not just brainless whining stop being so biased because your main is fine.

I wasn't trolling. I was trying to say that it isn't as bad as it could be. I know Leixia has problems, it just seems people exaggerate it.
Why does everyone think I'm "trolling" if all I said was at least she doesn't whiff a lot on her whiff punishment and combos. I understand being mad at a nerf but come on, to say someone is trolling because they have a different point of view. I was simply trying to state a positive, but nope! I'm a troll apparently...
