Combo question wtf does 66b {a}b ~ and etc mean

:sc5pyr1: Welcome to the Soul Calibur community, where everything is numbers and letters.

Lol, jk. Basically, players prefer to write moves in such a notation as 66b{a}b rather than manually click on the smilieys option to make out :6::6::B::Ah::B: , just because it's much faster to type. So, here's what it is.

The numbers refer to directions. If you look at your number pad, do you see the up arrow and the 8 together? The down arrow and the 2? That's the notation that the online SC community opts to use most of the time (used to be all the time when we didn't have those beautiful images that we can use). So here's what the translation is.

8-way run directions are denoted based on the number pad on the keyboard. So...

7 = :7: , 8 = :8:, 9 = :9:
4 = :4: , 5 = :5:, 6 = :6:
1 = :1: , 2 = :2:, 3 = :3:.

So when you see combinations of numbers, such as 236, they refer to a combination of directions, such as :2::3::6:, which by the way is a common stance or special move shared by a number of characters.

A, B, K, and G, if you are familiar with Soul Calibur at all, are self explanatory. They would be :A:,:B:,:K: and :G: respectively.

A+B, B+K, A+G, etc. are of course, represent simultaneous moves, such as :A+B:,:B+K:,:A+G:, etc.

Lowercase letters a, b, k, and g, represent the "slides" :a-small:,:b-small:,:k-small:, and :g-small:. They are always used to represent the moves where you have to tap a button quickly before getting to the next one. For example, 44aB refers to :4::4::aB:.

When you see brackets, they refer to "holds". So [A], [B.], [K], [G] (I like to use square brackets, but people tend to use curly ones too), can refer to :Ah:,:Bh:,:Kh:,:Gh:. So for example, 8[B+K] equals :8::B+Kh:.

I think that should explain everything. Once again, welcome to the SC Community, and enjoy your stay!
