Do the Soul Swords have wish granting powers?

Do the Soul Swords have wish granting powers or is it more of a rumor in the story? In SC4, it seemed like Raphael believed that SoulCalibur could grant his wish.

He meant it metaphorically. Amy's malfestation made her incompatible with the rest of the world. Raphael wished to create a world that would be suitable for them. Soulcalibur could technically do that by putting everything in crystal stasis.

Probably based on a rumor due to the power the Soul Swords grant their wielder. If they can actually grant wishes then it's probably more on par with a "Monkey's Paw" scenario where your wish will end up backfiring.

For instance, there is the case of Siegfried who tried to use Soul Edge to revive his father. Soul Edge appeared to do so, but it was just an illusion meant to control and deceive him.

But more likely that than not, it's just a rumor...especially in the case of Soul Edge unless you're in Algol's tier as far as willpower is concerned.

The Soul Swords powers to grant wishes are all based off illusions, lies and manipulation.

Siggy wants his dad back? He gets an a lie of a contract that his dad comes back if he helps SE gains power but instead, the sword just gets stronger and takes over his mind and body.

Pat wants to save his sister as his wish? SC/Elysium tells him to save her by killing her.

Pyrrha doesn't wanna be alone anymore? SE promises to be with her foreva if she gets souls for it.

Algol's son wants power? All he accomplished by stealing SE from his father was going crazy and then had to be cut down by Algol.

Zasalamel wanted to end his existence? The sword just turns him into Abyss. Then he set his sight on using SC instead but his tribe was gone. Meh.

Everything that has to do with the swords just ends up with the wielder being tricked by the swords for their own self gain. They don't grant wishes, they're lying to you about it. The only thing they can do, is lend you their powers to become stronger. Algol is the only one so far with the strength and willpower to wield SE, and not the other way. I can't say if his wish was granted since he did rule with it, but in the end the sword caused his son's death.

In short, the swords will never truly grant you wishes.

If you count SCV's out-of-nowhere Time Travel Ability then yes...they apparently do...
SC/Elyisum threw Pat into Astral Chaos before he was helped by Edgemaster. Considering the place is in another dimension, that place was probably the reason why he managed to time travel. Like Edge master said, those without a strong will wanders the place foreva. Pat focused hard on his regret and mistake and I personally would assume that Astral Chaos and Edgemaster helped him go back in time. Not SC. :/ She'd like freeze him into a statue before she'd let him travel back in time.

Maybe, but it still screams badly written deus ex machina.

So the swords usually provide powers for their own agenda instead of the user's?
Soul Edge manipulates and empowers people to kill, and SoulCalibur manipulates and empowers people to destroy Soul Edge.

Unless the wielder has a strong enough will in the case of Soul Edge.
Soul Calibur's manipulative traits are a fairly recent event that could have been influenced by it's absence from the other sacred items meant to keep it stable and pure...yet, it may have the same rule since Siegfried was canonically able to defeat Nightmare in SCIV without being controlled into creating a crystal wonderland.

SE pretty much just wants to use its wielder as a puppet to go and collect souls for it. It brings out all their worst fears or bad traits. SC desires order. Its first priority is to destroy SE and all the malfested (even the few good one) since that was Algol's intent when he created it but its second goal is to bring 'true' order to the world. As seen in the story, true order refers to a lifeless world. So everything freezes over.

Oh but he did get controlled part way. In the opening for SCV, we can see that his eyes went blue and briefly as he was being controlled and ice started to cover his body. When Nightmare broke some of the crystals off, only then did Siggy regained his mind and delivered the final blow. Also, his ending in SCIV showed the world freezing over as well. There goes his wish for salvation lol. A world where no more evil is committed and everyone is saved from chaos and war by all becoming pretty crystal ice statues.

Hehehahaha! Both Soul Edge and Soul Calibur's myth of "granting wishes" are merely ironic, it's like thinking that SOul Calibur is the "light side" while Soul Edge is darkness, but truly both swords are dark-sided because of their false claims of " granting people wishes." Let's take Raphael for example, Soul Edge tricked him thinking that he have could have his very own world with Amy, but no the Soul Edge merely control him and start hunting for souls.

If you're talking about when he's Dumas, no. He's 100% just cares about reviving that sword, even if it breaks his body. He has no goal of making a new world for Amy or remotely cares. It says so in the artbook.

Damn he's a pure sociopath, all trap in darkness and can't free himself unless Z.W.E.I. or Viola helps. I guess by adopted Amy he's have something to motivated him to create his and her "very own world", because that gives him more determination and fighting spirit of wanting the world with in his grasp. How ironic both swords are not what they seem as.
