Evo 2010

Well this is sounding good. I'll be getting some high level players. Think we'll have enough to revive that mini tournament offer?

Like I said, whoever is there, can can get a side tourney going. French players being there would only make it better.

Hi everybody,

I stopped playing SC4 since Cannes in march, i only play SSF4 now, waiting for SC5 or big SC tournament...

But i'll be at EVO for sure, i'll do the female SSF4 tournament and have some holidays maybe in Los Angeles or San Diego at an aunt's house after that for 2weeks.

So if there is a tournament for SC4 it doesn't bother me to participate. :)

Yeah i participated to the gnouz tournament since there is SC4 and SF4 in the same place, it would be a pity not to participate. But i'm not motivated anymore for this game, i didn't play since Cannes at all lol my brother doesn't play anymore and i didn't go at sessions. I didn't think at all that i would be well placed without touching the game during almost 3months. Maybe SF4 makes my style stronger, but we can see on videos that i dont play : i don't punish well because i forgot lol
And i'm not going to play at SC4 at home or in sessions anymore, only tournament and play a bit freeplay before the tournament in order to remember some tricks lol as i did for the gnouz.

Ditto. I'm almost ready to see what I can do in the SF zone. If it ain't Cannes 2011 there isn't really any reason to continue SC4 unless ur in France. I think most SC players realized that already.

Good luck at Evo unfortunately I won't make it to accompany you this year like we talked about a little.

ahah for some reason everybody keep on quitting SC4. Yeah and me too. Although I really want to see Omar, Damien, Esom and other guys. Frenchies of course, I dont think I'm going to EVO, I dont even play SF...

I don't get why people can't play more than one fighting game instead of quitting Calibur outright. SF is nowhere near as fun as Calibur. After 15 minutes, it gets mad boring unless you are forcing yourself to put the time in to compete in tournaments that you will lose in. This past Saturday, we probably played 30 minutes of Super before the game got replaced by Calibur.

And what happened to all the people who supposedly quit this game for SF last year? I see like a handful if not less whose name shows up in tourney results. Plus it's not like none of you guys are going to beat Justin Wong anytime in this decade. And offline, our community is 10x better.

I don't want to see people leave, but there's nothing I can do about it. All I can do is do what I can locally. As long as I am still having fun playing Calibur, I will be playing it regardless of who's around.

And there is still plenty to do in this game. Devastation is right around the corner. We still have tournaments every month in Philly along with an after party along with competing in SF. Where's the after party at for these other games? We have Summer Jam in August and NEC in December to come check out. If you skills are on point, then you should be over here to come get that fight money.

There's still tournaments for Calibur in Texas. There's also plenty of communities that people can go visit and play with. We just had Suirad who came and chilled with us and just now LostProvidence who came down while he was in NYC. I'll have to get him to bring Thugish and Malcolm along next time, but it sucks we didn't have more people come through while they were here. Hopefully next time though, but it's hot that people come check us out when they are in the area.

Europe is more than welcome to come on through. Come through for one of the larger tournaments that are coming up. And once my money isn't looking as funny, I will be travelling more. It's hard to do so with work, family, and bills, but you guys should take advantage of places that have a community for Calibur.

And not everything revolves around tournaments. But whatever, I'll still be here playing SC4 until SC5 comes out along with Soul Calibur 2 since I missed out on it when I came back from Japan and went straight into college.

You wanna know what happened to the drive?

Gotta say guys, as a community we kinda suck. Tekken is going through the same thing. Apathetic, cliquey, elitist, self-important players... tend to not reel 'em in like they used to. Hell, Tekken even got MLG and still is going downhill. Our community catered to whiners, was divided on all issues and had no idea on how to convey our feelings on each matter to each other in a constructive manner.

Lots of factors play into this of course, but good front men who can hype and keep people interested are always the best line of defense against community deterioration. Online play for both Namco fighters suck (sorry it's quite apparent that MEANS something to people getting into a game in this day and age), our Nationals was a disaster and the people left in the wake just didn't have what it took to keep people interested.

I mean, EVO WANTED US BACK! All we had to do was hold it together, but we experienced shrinkage rather than growth and we didn't have enough internet heroes to go around dismissing and disproving all the shit talk other gamers had to say about this game/community on casual/hardcore game forums ect ect ect... When you have set backs like we had, word gets around and we did nothing but fan the flames with in-fighting.

I suppose it's all debatable, but pinpointing all the things we shoulda or coulda done is irrelevant.

I enjoy playing fighting games period. Calibur will always be my favorite, but I can move on... and did. I will always hold a tiny bit of hope for a calibur revival in my heart of course, but I will never allow it to make me bitter toward other equally good competitive games just because they have more popularity and success than we ever did. Talking about how boring, scrubby or lame other games are is just conjecture, and makes YOU sound like a whiner.

Let's just not endlessly repeat ourselves k? We lost, let others do what they want.
========================

so Kayane, what SSF4 characters do you use?

Tekken 6BR died before it even started, but I thinks that's because it took wayyyyyy to long to come out and by that time it was already dieing. I mean it has no scene for the most part except majors and the last greatest event for it FRXIII with Nin & Knee present didn't even pull in the numbers you would expect with such legendary competitors there.

Soul Calibur U.S died because of all the things this forum amassed while the game was booming. The proof is in all the threads on this forum leading up to the present. No need to go back into it once again. Perhaps what's the most interesting thing though is their is no valid excuse and that's fact after coming back from WGC 2010.

SF is huge and to some extent TK but somehow SC doesn't get flushed down the drain. That is all and its something the scene for the U.S. should think about before making up excuses.

No offense intended Malice but u sound like a spokesperson and have for a long time. The game is dead. It is what it is. Regardless of the reasons it is. I told u a while back no need to keep denying it. When SC5 comes out people will be back and I hope people can get things right. Until then don't hate on other games just cause.

Belial we will see u again in due time. We just have to experience the awesomeness again. Gotta experience more crazy Belial ftw!

Oh for the record I fit into the elitist category not because I think i'm better than people as a person but because that's why I travel to compete. To feel that rush of either succeeding through tough matches or getting my ass kicked and learning from it for the better. So if the elite ain't there I ain't there just in case people refer to me as an elitist cause I know I am (not saying anyone did :) just in case they did).

Well I don't know you well enough to classify you as anything SU. You and I are from entirely separate eras of SC. Just in case... you know... you thought I was talking about you. lol.

Like we all agree, it was a culmination of many things that led us to where we are now. No one can really take the blame, which is probably why everyone feels so shitty about it all, because everyone -probably- feels a bit of guilt or responsibility for what happened to the community.

If I sound like a spokesperson, it's because what else am I going to say? This was a site for Soul Calibur the last time I checked.

But I've known for a long time what the situation is. What I have been doing since January is making the most out of it and have been successful at doing so to the point where other communities are doing what I'm doing. Plus I have a strong foundation for when a new game comes does come out.

I also play other games besides Calibur, so no matter what, I will be good. But I'm only concerned with those who still play Calibur as I move forward. I'm not worried about those who ain't here. It's a free country. People can do what they want.

And there's more to this game and community than tournaments and nonsense posted here on the forum. And offline, this community is still the shit. But shit is not dead where I am at, so I will keep it going until I stop having fun. Life goes on.

I honestly think, somewhat along the lines of what ChaCha said, there's not enough regional 'hype men' or rather people who actually cultivate their scenes. I know Chicago will be all right once I get out. There's a lot of people willing to play Calibur, but I honestly don't think people make themselves known or available to their scenes. Whether or not it's too late? Only time will tell. I know I'm going to be dedicating a bit of my time to supporting the Chicago scene once I get out of the Army. Whatever you guys all do is up to you.

Also, with the notion of other games, I'm going to assume you were talking about Malice's reference to that night of SSF4. I mean, honestly, it's true. I'm pretty sure I fell asleep in my chair fifteen minutes into the game, WHILE I WAS PLAYING (it should be on the stream somewhere, if only me saying something along the lines of, "Man, throw Calibur back in or I'm going to sleep..." I honestly do find, except for watching high level Japanese vids, the SF4 series EXTREMELY boring; the only reason I really picked it up is because I figure a lot of people are going to be playing and they'll need people to play with. I pretty much play any fighting game, though (hell, I love GG almost as much as I love SC), and my hatred of SF4 comes from a couple of things.

On top of that, people have their own diverse opinions on any and every fighting game (regardless of if they play them or not), so who really gives a damn?

Still, other than SF4, the only other fighting game that I can honestly saying is still going strong in the States is Smash Brothers, so there's not really much to hate on just because it's the cool thing to do.
