I first played Soul Calibur back in SC2. I was a teenager then, but I could pretty much pick up any game when I was younger than that and handle its complexity. As someone mentioned before me, it's odd that you find SC5 inaccessible, compared to the previous Soul Caliburs. I've never had to "relearn" Soul Calibur. The mechanics are the same. I didn't even have to read the manual for SC5, because I had played the previous Caliburs and pretty much knew the game. Grabs beat guard. Lows beat high guard. Mids beat low guard (or ducking). Sidestep, backstep, forward step. Guard crush, guard impact. Tech crouch, stun, etc. What about this has changed? Brave edges are a new element, but they don't change the basic mechanics. They're just attacks that tend to allow for more damage or, in some cases, a break attack, which isn't anything new. There is no point in addressing your meter management complaint. It's not rocket science man. And by the way, how many other *POPULAR* fighting games use meter??? Have you played Marvel vs. Capcom, King of Fighters XIII, or Persona 4 Arena, just to name a few? As for just guards, memorizing numbers has never been necessary. You can easily learn all of this intuitively––what to punish with, and what is punishable on block. I happen to dislike the CE input as well. It doesn't mix well with characters who have special steps with a 26 input. But as far as the input being difficult, other fighting games have equally difficult inputs, if not even more difficult. Guard crushes, oki situations, and ringouts aren't new, so I don't really see how these elements have affected the frequency of comebacks. And OK, you tried to learn Ivy's CS and failed. Why would you pick one of the most complicated moves in the game, yet alone the most difficult grab, to make a generalization about the inaccesibility of SC5 as a whole??? Tell me, what other grab inputs do you find hard to do, and how many do you find not so hard to do? All you do is press two buttons or set the grab inputs on one of the triggers. Can't believe I'm even pointing this out. The only people who can't do this stuff are nongamers and people who don't know much about computers, like my grandparents. This isn't an issue of Soul Calibur, you just need to learn how to use a controller, like a gamer.
But hey man, I don't take issue with you expressing how you feel. Soul Calibur is an amazing game. I hate that you couldn't find joy in it. And if we're being trolled, then oh well...
